Hi everybody, welcome to  another Full English lesson.

It is a windy day here in the UK,

إنه يوم عاصف هنا في المملكة المتحدة ،

but I hope you are feeling cosy and warm

and you are okay...today!

وأنت بخير ... اليوم!

Before I begin I would like to  give you a little brainteaser,

قبل أن أبدأ ، أود أن أقدم لكم القليل من المحاذاة الذهنية ،

so as to warm up those sleepy synapses.

وذلك لتسخين تلك المشابك العصبية النائمة.

What word can be used alongside  the following five words?

ما هي الكلمة التي يمكن استخدامها بجانب الكلمات الخمس التالية؟

As you know I love food.

كما تعلم أنا أحب الطعام.

And I couldn’t resist mentioning  an expression that is used

ولم أستطع مقاومة ذكر تعبير مستخدم

before we think about something we’ve just heard.

قبل أن نفكر في شيء سمعناه للتو.

The phrase is…‘Food for thought’.

العبارة ... "غذاء للفكر".

A thing heard or read that  resonates or lingers in your mind,

الشيء الذي تسمعه أو تقرأه يتردد صداها أو يظل باقياً في ذهنك ،

or has the possibility to  change your view of something

أو لديه إمكانية لتغيير وجهة نظرك عن شيء ما

might be described as ‘food for thought’.

يمكن وصفه بأنه "غذاء للفكر".

“That speech of yours has given  me lots of food for thought.”

"لقد منحني خطابك هذا الكثير من الأفكار."

The thing said has given you something  new or challenging to think about.

أعطاك الشيء الذي قيل شيئًا جديدًا أو صعبًا للتفكير فيه.

It has fed some new information into your brain.

لقد غذت بعض المعلومات الجديدة في عقلك.

It has made you think deeply  about a certain idea or topic.

لقد جعلك تفكر بعمق في فكرة أو موضوع معين.

You might even change your opinion because of it.

يمكنك حتى تغيير رأيك بسبب ذلك.

That new idea or opinion has given you  something to chew over in your mind.

أعطتك هذه الفكرة أو الرأي الجديد شيئًا تمضغه في ذهنك. لقد

It has given you some ‘food for thought’.

أعطاك بعض "غذاء الفكر".

Can you see what is behind me?

هل تستطيع أن ترى ما ورائي؟

It is something that is hidden  away, so it might be hard to see.

إنه شيء مخفي ، لذلك قد يكون من الصعب رؤيته.

Oh there it is.

أوه ها هو.

This is a nest box.

هذا صندوق عش.

It is an artificial space  where bird eggs can be nurtured

إنها مساحة اصطناعية حيث يمكن رعاية بيض الطيور

until the chicks growing inside  them are ready to hatch out.

حتى تصبح الكتاكيت التي تنمو بداخلها جاهزة للتفقيس.

So this nest box will allow a pair  of birds to add their own bedding,

such as grass and moss to the inside of the box.

مثل العشب والطحلب إلى داخل الصندوق.

The word nest can be used in many ways.

يمكن استخدام كلمة nest بعدة طرق.

To hide something away in a  safe place as a verb is nest.

لإخفاء شيء بعيدًا في مكان آمن مثل الفعل عشًا.

You nest; you place something  away for safe keeping.

عش تضع شيئًا بعيدًا لحفظه بأمان.

You can have a nest egg, which is a sum of  money that is saved over a number of years.

يمكن أن يكون لديك عش ، وهو مبلغ من المال يتم توفيره على مدى عدد من السنوات.

The money is often invested  so as to gather interest.

غالبًا ما يتم استثمار الأموال من أجل جمع الفوائد.

You want your money to be worth more  in the future for when you retire.

تريد أن تصبح أموالك أكثر قيمة في المستقبل عندما تتقاعد.

So a nest egg is something that  will be used at a later date.

A large quantity or number of animals living in  a certain location can be described as a nest.

كمية كبيرة أو عدد كبير من الحيوانات التي تعيش في مكان معين بأنها عش. يمكن وصف

A collection of furniture that belongs together  

مجموعة الأثاث التي تنتمي معًا

and is easy to pack away and  store can be described as a nest.

والتي يسهل تعبئتها وتخزينها بأنها عش.

For example, you can have a nest of tables.

على سبيل المثال ، يمكن أن يكون لديك مجموعة من الجداول. يمكن تخزين

All the different sized tables  can be store inside each other.

جميع الطاولات ذات الأحجام المختلفة داخل بعضها البعض.

A place where a person likes to rest and  relax so as to feel cosy and safe is a nest.

Hopefully soon there will be a family  of birds nesting inside this nest box.

A pair of birds will build a nest together  and raise their own brood of chicks.

سيبني زوج من الطيور عشًا معًا ويربي حضنة الصيصان الخاصة بهما.

I wonder what type of bird  will be living in there.

أتساءل ما نوع الطيور التي ستعيش هناك.

Could it be a pair of blue tits perhaps?

هل يمكن أن يكون زوج من الثدي الزرقاء ربما؟

We will have to wait and see.

It’s time to take a look at another buzzword.

حان الوقت لإلقاء نظرة على كلمة طنانة أخرى.

A buzzword is a word or phrase that  is often used during a certain period,

الكلمة الطنانة هي كلمة أو عبارة تُستخدم غالبًا خلال فترة معينة ،

or is generally popular.

أو شائعة بشكل عام.

Today’s buzzword is… ‘Generic’

الكلمة الطنانة اليوم هي ... "عامة"

The word ‘generic’ can be used  as both an adjective and a noun.

يمكن استخدام كلمة "عامة" كصفة واسم.

As an adjective; ‘generic’ means to belong to a  group with no precise or exact classification.

كصفة "عامة" تعني الانتماء إلى مجموعة بدون تصنيف دقيق أو دقيق.

The thing in question is named by its group,

يتم تسمية الشيء المعني من قبل مجموعته ،

without naming a singular characteristic.

دون تسمية صفة واحدة.

We are using its generic name. The overall  characteristics are being identified generically,

نحن نستخدم اسمها العام. يتم تحديد الخصائص العامة بشكل عام ،

as belonging to a certain group or ‘genus’.

على أنها تنتمي إلى مجموعة معينة أو "جنس". غالبًا ما يُشار إلى

Certain types of medicine with no clear brand  name are often referred to as ‘generic’.

أنواع معينة من الأدوية ليس لها اسم علامة تجارية واضح باسم "الأدوية العامة".

Something with no clear  individual identity is generic.

الشيء الذي ليس له هوية فردية واضحة هو شيء عام.

As an insult, a person might  describe an uninspiring idea  

كإهانة ، قد يصف الشخص فكرة غير ملهمة

that lacks originality or thought as ‘generic’.

تفتقر إلى الأصالة أو الفكر بأنها "عامة".

As a noun, ‘generic’ refers  to an unbranded product

كاسم ، يشير مصطلح "عام" إلى منتج لا يحمل علامة تجارية

and is normally associated with types of medicine.

ويرتبط عادةً بأنواع الأدوية.

Can you see what I’m doing over there?

هل يمكنك أن ترى ما أفعله هناك؟

I'm sitting on the fence.

أنا جالس على السياج.

I am enjoying the view and  taking in some fresh air.

أنا أستمتع بالمنظر وأستمتع ببعض الهواء النقي.

There is a phrase that exists  in English which refers  

توجد عبارة باللغة الإنجليزية تشير

to the position in which I’m sitting right now.

إلى المنصب الذي أجلس فيه الآن.

To; ‘sit on the fence’. This phrase  refers to a person who cannot,

ل؛ 'بقي محايدا'. تشير هذه العبارة إلى شخص لا يستطيع

or will not express their own opinion or take  any particular side in a dispute or argument.

أو لن يعبر عن رأيه أو يتخذ أي جانب معين في نزاع أو حجة.

To remain neutral without  expressing your personal opinion  

البقاء على الحياد دون التعبير عن رأيك الشخصي

can be described as ‘sitting on the fence’.

يمكن وصفه بأنه "الجلوس على السياج".

You might be willing to listen to the discussion,  but you are unwilling to get involved directly.

قد تكون على استعداد للاستماع إلى المناقشة ، لكنك غير راغب في المشاركة مباشرة.

We often use this expression negatively  

غالبًا ما نستخدم هذا التعبير بشكل سلبي

when describing a person who seems  unwilling to express their own thoughts.

عند وصف شخص يبدو أنه غير راغب في التعبير عن أفكاره الخاصة.

“You two can argue all day, but if you  don’t mind I would rather sit on the fence.”

"يمكنك أن تتجادل طوال اليوم ، ولكن إذا كنت لا تمانع ، فأنا أفضل الجلوس على الحياد."

“There you go again, avoiding the  problem by sitting on the fence.”

"ها أنت ذا مرة أخرى ، تتجنب المشكلة بالجلوس على السياج."

“You will have to get involved at some  point; you can’t keep sitting on the fence.”

"سيتعين عليك المشاركة في مرحلة ما ؛ لا يمكنك الاستمرار في الجلوس على السياج ".

To sit on the fence is to remain  neutral. You don’t want to get involved.

الجلوس على السياج هو البقاء على الحياد. أنت لا تريد المشاركة.

You would rather keep your opinion to yourself.

تفضل الاحتفاظ برأيك لنفسك.

You abstain, withhold, hold back, decline.

تمتنع عن التصويت ، تحجب ، تتراجع ، تنحسر.

You keep your feelings to yourself by not  expressing an opinion, decision or choice.

تحتفظ بمشاعرك لنفسك من خلال عدم التعبير عن رأي أو قرار أو اختيار. لقد

You have chosen to ‘sit on the fence’.

اخترت "الجلوس على السياج".

The answer is… Bean.

الجواب ... فول.

You can have a ‘bean bag’,  which is a type of chair.

يمكنك الحصول على "كيس فول" ، وهو نوع من الكراسي.

You can have a bean stalk, which is  the main support body of a bean plant.

يمكنك الحصول على ساق الفاصوليا ، وهو الجسم الداعم الرئيسي لنبتة الفاصوليا.

Then there is ‘bean counter’, which  is a slang term for ‘accountant’.

ثم هناك "عداد الفول" ، وهو مصطلح عامي لـ "محاسب".

Then there is ‘runner bean’,  which is a type of creeping plant.

ثم هناك "فاصوليا عداء" ، وهي نوع من النباتات الزاحفة.

And of course there is ‘baked bean’,

وبالطبع هناك "الفول المخبوز" ،

which is a delicious type of food that  goes well with tomato sauce on toast.

وهو نوع لذيذ من الطعام يتناسب بشكل جيد مع صلصة الطماطم على الخبز المحمص.

Oh, delicious

أوه ، لذيذ
