Before we get under way with today’s lesson,

قبل الشروع في درس اليوم ،

I would like to set a little brainteaser for you,

أود أن أضع لك القليل من الأفكار الذهنية ،

so as to give you something to ‘mull  over’ whilst watching today’s lesson.

وذلك لأعطيك شيئًا "تفكر فيه" أثناء مشاهدة درس اليوم.

To ‘mull over’ is to think about  or consider something carefully.

"التفكير في الأمر" يعني التفكير أو التفكير في شيء ما بعناية.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation

هل سبق لك أن وجدت نفسك في موقف يقوم فيه

where a person is doing something annoying  and irritating and won’t stop doing it?

شخص بفعل شيء مزعج ومزعج ولن يتوقف عن فعله؟

Maybe they are talking too  much about their problems,

ربما يتحدثون كثيرًا عن مشاكلهم ،

or they are doing something else  that is getting on your nerves.

أو يفعلون شيئًا آخر يثير أعصابك. يمكن وصف

The feeling caused by the irritation  can be described as an annoyance.

الشعور الناجم عن التهيج بأنه مصدر إزعاج.

You might want to say something to that  person, so as to get them to be quiet.

قد ترغب في أن تقول شيئًا لذلك الشخص ، حتى يكون هادئًا.

The only problem with doing that is you run  the risk of upsetting or offending them.

المشكلة الوحيدة في القيام بذلك هي أنك تخاطر بإزعاجهم أو الإساءة إليهم. يمكن وصف

The point at which you feel as if you must say  something can be described as the breaking point.

النقطة التي تشعر فيها كما لو أنك يجب أن تقول شيئًا ما على أنها نقطة الانهيار.

You cannot stand it any longer.

لا يمكنك تحمله أكثر من ذلك.

You have to say something.

عليك أن تقول شيئا.

Phrases such as… ‘Please stop it!’

عبارات مثل ... "من فضلك توقف!" لقد

You have reached the end of your tether.

وصلت إلى نهاية الحبل الخاص بك.

You cannot take anymore.

لا يمكنك أن تأخذ بعد الآن. من

Please…

‘Cut it out.’ ‘Pack it in.’

‘Give it a rest.’ ‘Belt up!’

‘Pipe down!’ ‘Enough already!’

‘Put a sock in it!’.

Of course all of those phrases are  normally used to show annoyance

بالطبع تُستخدم كل هذه العبارات عادةً لإظهار الانزعاج

and are normally used in the heat of the moment.

وعادةً ما تُستخدم في خضم اللحظة. من

The person receiving the complaint will most  likely feel annoyed or even hurt by your outburst.

المرجح أن يشعر الشخص الذي يتلقى الشكوى بالانزعاج أو حتى الأذى من نوبة غضبك.

But sometimes it is hard  to hold your feelings back.

لكن في بعض الأحيان يكون من الصعب كبح جماح مشاعرك.

It is not unusual for a parent to tell their  child off for doing something annoying.

ليس من غير المعتاد أن يخبر أحد الوالدين طفلهما بفعل شيء مزعج.

Quite often it is the noise  that a child is making that can  

غالبًا ما يكون الضجيج الذي يصدره الطفل هو الذي يمكن أن

‘rile’ the parent to the point  where they lose their temper.

"يثير" الوالد لدرجة أنه يفقد أعصابه.

The word ‘rile’ means anger.

كلمة "رايل" تعني الغضب. يمكن وصف

That feeling of rage that grows inside you  when something is getting on your nerves  

هذا الشعور بالغضب الذي ينمو بداخلك عندما يحدث شيء ما على أعصابك

can be described as ‘getting riled’.

بأنه "يغضب".

Fortunately most of us are  able to control our anger,

لحسن الحظ ، معظمنا قادر على التحكم في غضبنا ،

but sometimes, not often, but sometimes,

ولكن في بعض الأحيان ، ليس في كثير من الأحيان ، ولكن في بعض الأحيان ،

even the most mild-mannered person might  become frustrated and lose their temper.

It’s time to take a look at another buzzword.

حان الوقت لإلقاء نظرة على كلمة طنانة أخرى.

A buzzword is a word or phrase that  is popular during a certain period

الكلمة الطنانة هي كلمة أو عبارة شائعة خلال فترة معينة

or is generally popular in everyday use.

أو شائعة بشكل عام في الاستخدام اليومي.

Today’s buzzword is…

الكلمة الطنانة اليوم هي ...

‘Hyperbole’.

"المبالغة".

The word ‘hyperbole’ is a noun that  means exaggerate of over-state something.

كلمة "المبالغة" هي اسم يعني المبالغة في حالة شيء ما.

To make a situation appear worse than it really is

لجعل الموقف يبدو أسوأ مما هو عليه في الواقع

or to over blow something minor, so as to make  it appear more devastating that it actually is

أو المبالغة في تفجير شيء بسيط ، بحيث يبدو أكثر تدميراً بحيث

can be described as ‘hyperbole’.

يمكن وصفه في الواقع بأنه "مبالغ فيه".

You might over-state your feelings or  exaggerate your reaction to something  

يمكنك المبالغة في التعبير عن مشاعرك أو المبالغة في رد فعلك على شيء ما

for extra dramatic effect.

للحصول على تأثير دراماتيكي إضافي.

News stories might use hyperbole  to get a person’s attention.

قد تستخدم القصص الإخبارية المبالغة لجذب انتباه الشخص.

Advertising often contains hyperbole, so as to  make a bigger impression on the general public.

غالبًا ما يحتوي الإعلان على مبالغات ، وذلك لإحداث انطباع أكبر لدى عامة الناس.

Social media has allowed hyperbole  to slip into general use.

سمحت وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي بدخول المبالغة إلى الاستخدام العام.

It might be stated that something is having  a bigger effect on people than it really is.

يمكن القول أن شيئًا ما له تأثير أكبر على الناس مما هو عليه في الواقع.

“People are losing their minds over these new  contestants on the latest season of Love Island.”

"يفقد الناس عقولهم بشأن هؤلاء المتسابقين الجدد في الموسم الأخير من Love Island."

In logical terms, it would be fair to say that  

من الناحية المنطقية ، سيكون من الإنصاف القول إن

people do not normally lose  their minds over a TV show.

الناس لا يفقدون عادة عقولهم بسبب برنامج تلفزيوني.

It is hyperbole.

إنه مبالغة.

You might hear a politician use hyperbole when  stating a situation that needs putting right.

قد تسمع سياسيًا يستخدم المبالغة عند ذكر موقف يحتاج إلى تصحيح.

This can be applied to both  the problem and the solution.

يمكن تطبيق هذا على كل من المشكلة والحل.

That is to say; the situation is  made to seem far worse than it is

ذلك بالقول؛ يبدو الوضع أسوأ بكثير مما هو عليه

and the solution might  appear; too good to be true.

وقد يظهر الحل ؛ جيدة جدا ليكون صحيحا.

They can both be exaggerated.

كلاهما يمكن المبالغة فيه. يمكن وصف

An overreaction or overstatement  can be described as ‘over the top.

المبالغة في رد الفعل أو المبالغة بأنها "مبالغ فيها.

It is… exaggerated, overstated, overblown,

إنه ... مبالغ فيه ، مبالغ فيه ، مبالغ فيه ،

it is hyperbole.

إنه مبالغة.

Can you see the object that is next to me here?

هل يمكنك رؤية الشيء الموجود بجانبي هنا؟

It is a simple everyday item  that can be found everywhere.

إنه عنصر يومي بسيط يمكن العثور عليه في كل مكان.

There might be one or more  of these near you right now.

قد يكون هناك واحد أو أكثر من هؤلاء بالقرب منك الآن.

This is a button.

هذا زر.

It is a useful thing for  fastening your clothes with.

إنه شيء مفيد لتثبيت ملابسك به.

Buttons come in all shapes, sizes, and colours.

تأتي الأزرار بجميع الأشكال والأحجام والألوان.

The word ‘button’ can be used in other ways too.

يمكن استخدام كلمة "زر" بطرق أخرى أيضًا. غالبًا ما يكون

A control that needs to work instantly  will often be in the form of a button.

عنصر التحكم الذي يحتاج إلى العمل على الفور على شكل زر.

It can be pressed easily.

يمكن الضغط عليه بسهولة.

An emergency button might be placed in  a room, so as to activate a fire alarm.

This might also be called a ‘panic button’.

In order to activate the alarm,  you will need to press the button.

You hit the button. You push the button.

An elderly person might wear an  alarm button on their person,

“If you need any assistance in the  night, just press the red button.”

A computer will most likely have  a power button on the front,

so as to allow you to ‘power up’ the device.

A lift or elevator normally  has many buttons inside it.

However, these days the physical button  is being replace by the ‘touch’ button.

Touch screens now allow you  activate a function on a device

A button might also be referred to as a key.

A computer keyboard has buttons that  are pressed to perform an action;

although, they are more  normally referred to as keys.

There are some phrases related  to the word ‘button’ as well.

You might be ‘on the button’ about something.

This means that you are correct about something.

An accurate statement or answer can  be described as being ‘on the button’.

There is also an item that can be worn on  a person’s clothing for a special occasion.

A flower that is place on the jacket  of a person attending a wedding

or some other celebration is a buttonhole.

It is normally placed in the hole  where a button might fasten in.

The flower is often a pink or white carnation.

If you want a person to stop talking,  you might tell them to ‘button it’.

You are telling them to say nothing.

“Don’t tell anyone that I’m  getting married, just button it.”

Then there is the phrase that  means to purposely annoy someone

so as to make them angry;  to push someone’s buttons.

عن قصد لإثارة غضبه ؛ لدفع أزرار شخص ما.

You are doing something to wind  a person up and make them angry.

أنت تفعل شيئًا ما لإيقاع شخص ما وإغضابه.

You are ‘pushing their buttons’.

أنت "تضغط على أزرارهم".

“If he was disagreeing with me so as to  push my buttons, then he’s succeeded.

"إذا كان يختلف معي حتى يضغط على الأزرار ، فقد نجح.

In American English a ‘button’  is a type of flat metal object,

في اللغة الإنجليزية الأمريكية ، "الزر" هو نوع من الأجسام المعدنية المسطحة

which is pinned to a person’s clothing.

التي يتم تثبيتها في ملابس الشخص.

It is often called a ‘badge’.

غالبًا ما يطلق عليه "شارة".

This is a badge.

It can also be called a button.

First there is gate post, which is the support  that is normally driven into the ground  

أولاً ، يوجد عمود البوابة ، وهو الدعامة التي يتم دفعها عادةً إلى الأرض

and is used to support a swinging gate.

وتستخدم لدعم بوابة التأرجح.

Then there is lamp post, which is a long solid  pole onto which a light is mounted at the top.

ثم هناك عمود المصباح ، وهو عمود صلب طويل يتم تركيب ضوء فوقه.

Then there is post office, which is  a building where mail is handed in  

ثم هناك مكتب البريد ، وهو مبنى يتم فيه تسليم البريد

and sorted for collection and delivery.

Then there is post man, or post woman, which  is a person who delivers those letters to you.

ثم هناك رجل البريد ، أو امرأة البريد ، وهو الشخص الذي يسلمك هذه الرسائل.

Finally there is post box,  

أخيرًا ، يوجد صندوق بريد ،

which is a safe and secure place where  letters are placed for later collection.

وهو مكان آمن وآمن حيث يتم وضع الرسائل لتجميعها لاحقًا.
