Before we get under way with today’s lesson,

I would like to set a little brainteaser for you,

so as to give you something to ‘mull  over’ whilst watching today’s lesson.

오늘 수업을 시청하는 동안 '궁금해 할' 무언가를 제공하기 위해 약간의 난제를 설정하고 싶습니다.

To ‘mull over’ is to think about  or consider something carefully.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation

where a person is doing something annoying  and irritating and won’t stop doing it?

어떤 사람이 짜증나고 짜증나는 일을 하고도 그 일을 멈추지 않는 상황에 처한 적이 있습니까? 자신

Maybe they are talking too  much about their problems,

or they are doing something else  that is getting on your nerves.

The feeling caused by the irritation  can be described as an annoyance.

You might want to say something to that  person, so as to get them to be quiet.

그 사람이 조용히 하도록 말을 하고 싶을 수도 있습니다 .

The only problem with doing that is you run  the risk of upsetting or offending them.

The point at which you feel as if you must say  something can be described as the breaking point.

You cannot stand it any longer.

You have to say something.

Phrases such as… ‘Please stop it!’

You have reached the end of your tether.

Of course all of those phrases are  normally used to show annoyance

and are normally used in the heat of the moment.

The person receiving the complaint will most  likely feel annoyed or even hurt by your outburst.

But sometimes it is hard  to hold your feelings back.

Quite often it is the noise  that a child is making that can

The word ‘rile’ means anger.

That feeling of rage that grows inside you  when something is getting on your nerves

Fortunately most of us are  able to control our anger,

even the most mild-mannered person might  become frustrated and lose their temper.

It’s time to take a look at another buzzword.

또 다른 유행어를 살펴볼 때입니다.

A buzzword is a word or phrase that  is popular during a certain period

유행어는 특정 기간 동안 유행했거나

or is generally popular in everyday use.

일반적으로 일상적으로 사용되는 단어나 구문입니다.

Today’s buzzword is…

‘Hyperbole’.

'과장'입니다.

The word ‘hyperbole’ is a noun that  means exaggerate of over-state something.

'hyperbole'이라는 단어는 어떤 것을 과장되게 표현하는 것을 의미하는 명사입니다.

To make a situation appear worse than it really is

상황을 실제보다 더 나쁘게 보이게 하거나

or to over blow something minor, so as to make  it appear more devastating that it actually is

사소한 것을 과장하여 실제보다 더 파괴적으로 보이도록 하는 것은

can be described as ‘hyperbole’.

'과장'이라고 할 수 있습니다. 극적인 효과를 더하기 위해 자신

You might over-state your feelings or  exaggerate your reaction to something  

의 감정을 과장하거나 무언가에 대한 반응을 과장할 수 있습니다

for extra dramatic effect.

News stories might use hyperbole  to get a person’s attention.

뉴스 기사는 사람들의 관심을 끌기 위해 과장법을 사용할 수 있습니다.

Advertising often contains hyperbole, so as to  make a bigger impression on the general public.

광고에는 일반 대중에게 더 큰 인상을 주기 위해 과장법이 포함되는 경우가 많습니다.

Social media has allowed hyperbole  to slip into general use.

소셜 미디어는 과장된 표현이 일반적으로 사용되도록 허용했습니다.

It might be stated that something is having  a bigger effect on people than it really is.

어떤 것이 실제보다 사람들에게 더 큰 영향을 미치고 있다고 말할 수 있습니다.

“People are losing their minds over these new  contestants on the latest season of Love Island.”

"사람들은 Love Island의 최신 시즌에서 이 새로운 참가자들에 정신을 잃고 있습니다."

In logical terms, it would be fair to say that  

논리적으로 말하면

people do not normally lose  their minds over a TV show.

사람들은 일반적으로 TV 쇼에 정신을 잃지 않는다고 말하는 것이 타당할 것입니다.

It is hyperbole.

과장입니다. 바로잡아야 할 상황을 말할

You might hear a politician use hyperbole when  stating a situation that needs putting right.

This can be applied to both  the problem and the solution.

이는 문제와 솔루션 모두에 적용될 수 있습니다 .

That is to say; the situation is  made to seem far worse than it is

and the solution might  appear; too good to be true.

They can both be exaggerated.

둘 다 과장될 수 있습니다.

An overreaction or overstatement  can be described as ‘over the top.

과잉 반응이나 과장된 표현은 'over the top'이라고 표현할 수 있습니다.

It is… exaggerated, overstated, overblown,

it is hyperbole.

It is a simple everyday item  that can be found everywhere.

There might be one or more  of these near you right now.

This is a button.

It is a useful thing for  fastening your clothes with.

Buttons come in all shapes, sizes, and colours.

The word ‘button’ can be used in other ways too.

'버튼'이라는 단어는 다른 방식으로도 사용될 수 있습니다.

A control that needs to work instantly  will often be in the form of a button.

It can be pressed easily.

An emergency button might be placed in  a room, so as to activate a fire alarm.

This might also be called a ‘panic button’.

In order to activate the alarm,  you will need to press the button.

You hit the button. You push the button.

An elderly person might wear an  alarm button on their person,

so they can call for help in an emergency.

A computer will most likely have  a power button on the front,

A lift or elevator normally  has many buttons inside it.

However, these days the physical button  is being replace by the ‘touch’ button.

Touch screens now allow you  activate a function on a device

without having to press a real button.

실제 버튼을 누르지 않고도 기기의 기능을 활성화할 수 있습니다.

A button might also be referred to as a key.

단추는 키라고도 합니다.

A computer keyboard has buttons that  are pressed to perform an action;

컴퓨터 키보드에는 작업을 수행하기 위해 누르는 버튼이 있습니다.

although, they are more  normally referred to as keys.

하지만 더 일반적으로 키라고 합니다.

There are some phrases related  to the word ‘button’ as well.

'버튼'이라는 단어와 관련된 문구도 있습니다.

You might be ‘on the button’ about something.

당신은 무언가에 대해 '버튼에'있을 수 있습니다.

This means that you are correct about something.

이것은 당신이 어떤 것에 대해 옳다는 것을 의미합니다.

An accurate statement or answer can  be described as being ‘on the button’.

“You were on the button about the  improvements that need to be made.”

There is also an item that can be worn on  a person’s clothing for a special occasion.

A flower that is place on the jacket  of a person attending a wedding

or some other celebration is a buttonhole.

It is normally placed in the hole  where a button might fasten in.

The flower is often a pink or white carnation.

If you want a person to stop talking,  you might tell them to ‘button it’.

You are telling them to say nothing.

Then there is the phrase that  means to purposely annoy someone

In American English a ‘button’  is a type of flat metal object,

This is a badge.

Then there is lamp post, which is a long solid  pole onto which a light is mounted at the top.

Then there is post office, which is  a building where mail is handed in
