Learn the English Phrases "to book it" and "to close the book on"

In this English lesson,

في درس اللغة الإنجليزية هذا ،

I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, to book it.

أردت مساعدتك في تعلم العبارة الإنجليزية لحجزها.

Now, this has nothing to do with books.

الآن ، هذا لا علاقة له بالكتب.

It's kind of an informal slang phrase

إنها عبارة عامية غير رسمية

that we use to talk about driving quickly

نستخدمها للحديث عن القيادة بسرعة

or running quickly.

Sometimes when I'm late for work,

أحيانًا عندما أتأخر عن العمل ،

I have to book it in order to make it to work on time.

Sometimes when I'm late for class,

I have to book it from my work area to my classroom

because I want to get to class on time.

So anytime you drive fast

or anytime you run fast,

because you're a little bit late,

we sometimes use the English phrase, to book it.

نستخدم أحيانًا العبارة الإنجليزية لحجزها.

It's not good when you're late for work to book it,

ليس من الجيد أن تتأخر عن العمل لحجزه ،

because there's a good chance

لأن هناك فرصة جيدة

you're going to get a speeding ticket.

لأنك ستحصل على مخالفة مسرعة.

But sometimes I do have to book it to get to work on time.

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is

the phrase, to close the book on.

When you close the book on something,

عندما تغلق الكتاب على شيء ما ،

it means you're no longer talking about it,

you're no longer discussing it.

Let's say you're having a fight with a friend

لنفترض أنك تخوض معركة مع صديق

and you've decided to kind of come to an agreement.

وقررت التوصل إلى اتفاق.

You decide that you're going to close the book

قررت أن تغلق الكتاب

on your disagreement.

بشأن خلافك.

When the government is talking to another government,

عندما تتحدث الحكومة إلى حكومة أخرى ،

when a country talks to another country,

if they disagree,

eventually they might come to an agreement,

and then they'll close the book on their disagreement.

That means they won't talk about the things

that they disagree on anymore.

So to review, when you have to book it,

it means you have to go really fast.

Sometimes I do need to book it.

There's just no choice.

If you're late for work,

And when you close the book on something,

Let me turn so you can see it again.

We most often plant our wheat in the fall.

It germinates. It grows a little bit.

And when winter comes, it goes dormant.

When you say something goes dormant,

So quite often in Canada,

Maybe I should show you a little bit what it looks like.

Just little rows of wheat out here in the field,
