Present Perfect: Active & Passive | Participle Adjectives | Advanced English Grammar

The fact that the Past Participle is used in Perfect tenses, the Passive Voice,

حقيقة استخدام الجزء الماضي في الأزمنة المثالية ، والصوت المبني للمجهول ،

and also sometimes as an adjective can be very confusing.

وكذلك أحيانًا كصفة محيرة للغاية.

So, in this lesson we're going to review these three uses of the Past Participle form.

So, let's start by looking at the active to passive formulation.

لذا ، لنبدأ بالنظر في الصيغة النشطة إلى السلبية.

Remember that a key point is that we must respect the tense.

تذكر أن النقطة الأساسية هي أنه يجب علينا احترام الزمن.

For example, if the active sentence is: Someone opens the window every day (Present Simple).

على سبيل المثال ، إذا كانت الجملة النشطة هي: شخص ما يفتح النافذة كل يوم (Present Simple).

The passive is: The window is opened every day.

المبني للمجهول هو: النافذة تفتح كل يوم.

Present Simple for the verb 'to be'.

المضارع البسيط للفعل "to be".

So, now let's change the tense of the active sentence to Present Perfect.

لذا ، دعونا الآن نغير زمن الجملة النشطة إلى Present Perfect.

So, someone has opened the window.

إذن ، شخص ما فتح النافذة.

What's the passive form?

ما هو الشكل المبني للمجهول؟

The passive form is: The window has been opened.

النموذج الخامل هو: تم فتح النافذة.

The verb 'to be' is now in the Present Perfect tense, 'has been'.

الفعل "to be" موجود الآن في زمن المضارع التام ، "كان".

Right! An action has taken place. What's the result of this action?

يمين! تم اتخاذ إجراء. ما هي نتيجة هذا العمل؟

The result is that the window is now open. 'Open' is an ordinary adjective.

والنتيجة هي أن النافذة مفتوحة الآن. "فتح" صفة عادية.

Right! Let's look at another example.

يمين! لنلق نظرة على مثال آخر.

The active sentence is: I have booked our seats. What's the passive sentence?

الجملة النشطة هي: لقد حجزت مقاعدنا. ما هي الجملة السلبية؟

The passive sentence is: Our seats have been booked.

الجملة السلبية هي: لقد تم حجز مقاعدنا.

And what's the result?

وما هي النتيجة؟

The result is that our seats are booked.

والنتيجة هي حجز مقاعدنا.

'Booked' is also an adjective. It describes what has happened to the seats.

"حجز" هي أيضًا صفة. يصف ما حدث للمقاعد.

But, it's not an ordinary adjective, it's a participle adjective.

لكنها ليست صفة عادية ، إنها صفة فعالة.

Right! Let's look at another example.

يمين! لنلق نظرة على مثال آخر.

The active sentence is: She has completed all the tasks. What's the passive sentence?

الجملة النشطة هي: لقد أكملت جميع المهام. ما هي الجملة السلبية؟

The passive form is: All the tasks have been completed.

النموذج المبني للمجهول هو: تم إكمال جميع المهام.

So, what's the result?

إذن ما هي النتيجة؟

The result is that all the tasks are complete or completed.

والنتيجة هي أن جميع المهام مكتملة أو مكتملة.

In this situation, you have a choice of the ordinary adjective 'complete', or the participle adjective 'completed'.

في هذه الحالة ، لديك خيار بين الصفة العادية "مكتمل" ، أو صفة المشاركة "مكتملة".

If you use the ordinary adjective 'complete', you're only describing the noun.

إذا كنت تستخدم الصفة العادية "كاملة" ، فأنت تصف الاسم فقط.

If you use the participle adjective 'completed',  you're showing that an action was carried out on the noun.

إذا استخدمت صفة المشاركة "مكتمل" ، فأنت تُظهر أنه تم تنفيذ إجراء على الاسم.

Right! Let's finish with two more examples to clarify the three uses of the past participle.

يمين! دعنا ننتهي بمثالين آخرين لتوضيح الاستخدامات الثلاثة لمشارك الماضي.

Look at the first context.

انظر إلى السياق الأول.

Something like: I empty the bin daily.

شيء من هذا القبيل: أفراغ الصندوق يوميًا.

So, when someone asks you: Have you emptied the bin today? They're using 'empty' in the Present Perfect tense active.

لذا عندما يسألك أحدهم: هل أفرغت سلة المهملات اليوم؟ إنهم يستخدمون "فارغ" في صيغة المضارع التام النشط.

You can answer: Yes, it has been emptied.

يمكنك الإجابة: نعم ، لقد تم إفراغها.

You're using 'emptied' in the passive voice of the same tense, Present Perfect.

أنت تستخدم "فارغ" في صيغة المبني للمجهول لنفس الفعل المضارع ، المضارع التام.

Or, you can just describe the state of the bin: It's emptied.

أو يمكنك فقط وصف حالة السلة: إنها فارغة.

You're using the Past Participle as an adjective here. A participle adjective.

أنت تستخدم الماضي كصفة هنا. صفة الفاعل.

But, because the ordinary adjective 'empty'  also exists, you can say: It is empty.

ولكن نظرًا لوجود الصفة العادية "فارغ" أيضًا ، يمكنك القول: إنها فارغة.

Right! Let's look at one final context to make this perfectly clear.

يمين! لنلقِ نظرة على سياق نهائي واحد لتوضيح ذلك تمامًا.

Let's say that you do the shopping every week.

لنفترض أنك تقوم بالتسوق كل أسبوع.

So, when someone asks you: Have you done the shopping this week?

لذا ، عندما يسألك أحدهم: هل قمت بالتسوق هذا الأسبوع؟

They're using 'done', the past participle, in the Present Perfect tense in the active form.

إنهم يستخدمون "تم" ، النعت الماضي ، في زمن المضارع التام في الشكل النشط.

If you answer: Yes, it has been done. You're using 'done', the past participle, in the passive form of the Present Perfect tense.

إذا أجبت: نعم ، فقد تم ذلك. أنت تستخدم "تم" ، النعت الماضي ، في صيغة المبني للمجهول من المضارع التام.

Or, you can simply say: It is done.

أو يمكنك ببساطة أن تقول: لقد تم ذلك.

Now, you're using 'done', the past participle, as a participle adjective.

الآن ، أنت تستخدم "تم" ، اسم المفعول ، كصفة مشاركة.

And in this case, there is no ordinary adjective to describe the result.

وفي هذه الحالة ، لا توجد صفة عادية لوصف النتيجة.
