Present Perfect: Active & Passive | Participle Adjectives | Advanced English Grammar

The fact that the Past Participle is used in Perfect tenses, the Passive Voice,

Fakt, że imiesłów bierny jest używany w czasach dokonanych, stronie biernej,

and also sometimes as an adjective can be very confusing.

a także czasami jako przymiotnik, może być bardzo zagmatwany.

So, in this lesson we're going to review these three uses of the Past Participle form.

Tak więc w tej lekcji omówimy te trzy zastosowania formy imiesłowu biernego.

So, let's start by looking at the active to passive formulation.

Zacznijmy więc od przyjrzenia się formule aktywnej i pasywnej.

Remember that a key point is that we must respect the tense.

Pamiętaj, że kluczową kwestią jest to, że musimy szanować czas.

For example, if the active sentence is: Someone opens the window every day (Present Simple).

Na przykład, jeśli zdanie czynne brzmi: Ktoś codziennie otwiera okno (czas Present Simple). Strona

The passive is: The window is opened every day.

bierna to: Okno jest otwierane codziennie.

Present Simple for the verb 'to be'.

Present Simple dla czasownika „być”. A

So, now let's change the tense of the active sentence to Present Perfect.

teraz zmieńmy czas w zdaniu czynnym na Present Perfect.

So, someone has opened the window.

A więc ktoś otworzył okno.

What's the passive form?

Jaka jest forma bierna?

The passive form is: The window has been opened.

Forma pasywna to: Okno zostało otwarte.

The verb 'to be' is now in the Present Perfect tense, 'has been'.

Czasownik „być” jest teraz w czasie Present Perfect, „był”.

Right! An action has taken place. What's the result of this action?

Prawidłowy! Czynność została wykonana. Jaki jest wynik tej akcji? W

The result is that the window is now open. 'Open' is an ordinary adjective.

rezultacie okno jest teraz otwarte. „Otwarty” to zwykły przymiotnik.

Right! Let's look at another example.

Prawidłowy! Spójrzmy na inny przykład.

The active sentence is: I have booked our seats. What's the passive sentence?

Zdanie czynne to: Zarezerwowałem nasze miejsca. Jakie jest zdanie bierne?

The passive sentence is: Our seats have been booked.

Zdanie bierne to: Nasze miejsca zostały zarezerwowane.

And what's the result?

A jaki jest wynik? W

The result is that our seats are booked.

rezultacie nasze miejsca są zarezerwowane.

'Booked' is also an adjective. It describes what has happened to the seats.

„Zarezerwowany” to także przymiotnik. Opisuje, co stało się z siedzeniami.

But, it's not an ordinary adjective, it's a participle adjective.

Ale to nie jest zwykły przymiotnik, to przymiotnik z imiesłowem.

Right! Let's look at another example.

Prawidłowy! Spójrzmy na inny przykład.

The active sentence is: She has completed all the tasks. What's the passive sentence?

Zdanie czynne to: Ukończyła wszystkie zadania. Jakie jest zdanie bierne?

The passive form is: All the tasks have been completed.

Forma pasywna to: Wszystkie zadania zostały wykonane.

So, what's the result?

Jaki jest wynik? W

The result is that all the tasks are complete or completed.

rezultacie wszystkie zadania są ukończone lub ukończone.

In this situation, you have a choice of the ordinary adjective 'complete', or the participle adjective 'completed'.

W tej sytuacji masz do wyboru przymiotnik zwykły „kompletny” lub przymiotnik imiesłowowy „zakończony”.

If you use the ordinary adjective 'complete', you're only describing the noun.

Jeśli używasz zwykłego przymiotnika „kompletny”, opisujesz tylko rzeczownik.

If you use the participle adjective 'completed',  you're showing that an action was carried out on the noun.

Jeśli użyjesz przymiotnika z imiesłowem „zakończony”, pokazujesz, że na rzeczowniku wykonano czynność.

Right! Let's finish with two more examples to clarify the three uses of the past participle.

Prawidłowy! Zakończmy jeszcze dwoma przykładami wyjaśniającymi trzy zastosowania imiesłowu czasu przeszłego.

Look at the first context.

Spójrz na pierwszy kontekst.

Something like: I empty the bin daily.

Coś w stylu: Codziennie opróżniam kosz.

So, when someone asks you: Have you emptied the bin today? They're using 'empty' in the Present Perfect tense active.

Kiedy więc ktoś Cię zapyta: czy opróżniłeś dzisiaj kosz? Używają słowa „pusty” w czasie Present Perfect aktywnym.

You can answer: Yes, it has been emptied.

Możesz odpowiedzieć: Tak, został opróżniony.

You're using 'emptied' in the passive voice of the same tense, Present Perfect.

Używasz słowa „opróżniony” w stronie biernej tego samego czasu, Present Perfect.

Or, you can just describe the state of the bin: It's emptied.

Możesz też po prostu opisać stan kosza: jest pusty.

You're using the Past Participle as an adjective here. A participle adjective.

Używasz tutaj imiesłowu czasu przeszłego jako przymiotnika. Przymiotnik imiesłowowy.

But, because the ordinary adjective 'empty'  also exists, you can say: It is empty.

Ale ponieważ istnieje również zwykły przymiotnik „pusty” , możesz powiedzieć: jest pusty.

Right! Let's look at one final context to make this perfectly clear.

Prawidłowy! Przyjrzyjmy się jednemu końcowemu kontekstowi, aby to doskonale wyjaśnić.

Let's say that you do the shopping every week.

Załóżmy, że robisz zakupy co tydzień.

So, when someone asks you: Have you done the shopping this week?

Kiedy więc ktoś Cię pyta: czy robiłeś zakupy w tym tygodniu?

They're using 'done', the past participle, in the Present Perfect tense in the active form.

Używają „done”, imiesłowu czasu przeszłego w czasie Present Perfect w formie czynnej.

If you answer: Yes, it has been done. You're using 'done', the past participle, in the passive form of the Present Perfect tense.

Jeśli odpowiesz: Tak, zostało zrobione. Używasz „done”, imiesłowu czasu przeszłego w stronie biernej czasu Present Perfect.

Or, you can simply say: It is done.

Lub możesz po prostu powiedzieć: Gotowe.

Now, you're using 'done', the past participle, as a participle adjective.

Teraz używasz „done”, imiesłowu czasu przeszłego, jako przymiotnika imiesłowowego.

And in this case, there is no ordinary adjective to describe the result.

I w tym przypadku nie ma zwykłego przymiotnika do opisania wyniku.

Right! That's the end of  this lesson.
