In this lesson you'll learn ten phrasal verbs

في هذا الفيديو سوف تتعلم عشرة افعال مركبه

using the verb, 'come'.

باستعمال فعل come (اتى)

Now, phrasal verbs are groups of words in English

الان، الافعال المركبه هي مجموعه من الكلمات في الانجليزية

made up of a verb

مكونه من فعل

and either one or two particles.

مع واحد او اتنان من الحروف

Now, a particle can either be a preposition

والان ، هذه الحروف يمكن ان تكون ايضا حروف جر

like 'on'

متال on (على )

or an adverb

او ظرف

like 'together'.

متل together (معا)

Now phrasal verbs are a challenge for you, aren't they?

الان، الافعال المركبه بمتابه تحدي لك، اليس كذلك؟

They're hard for English learners!

انها صعبه لمتعلمي الانجليزية

Often one phrasal verb has

غالبا يمكن لفعل مركب واحد

more than one meaning.

ان يكون باكتر من معنى

They can often be idiomatic

يمكن ايضا ان يكون بمعنى اصطلاحي

so the meaning isn't obvious

لذا المعنى لن يكون واضح

from the words.

من الكلمه لوحدها

And not every phrasal verb follows the same rules.

وايضا ليست كل افعال مركبه تطبق على قاعده واحده

Some are transitive,

البعض يمكن ان يكون فعل متعد

some are intransitive,

والبعض فعل لازم

separable or inseparable

منفصل او غير منفصل

or both!

او كلاهما ( بس لا تخاف ركز بس)

But ignoring phrasal verbs is not an option for you

لكن تجاهل الافعال المركبه ليس خيارا بالنسبه اليك

because they are so common!

لانهم شائعون كتيرا

They come up all the time in conversation.

فهم موجودون في دائما في المحادثه

You'll hear me use them all the time

فسوف تسمعني استعملها دائما

in my lessons.

Okay let's dive into 10 common phrasal verbs

تمام .. هيا لنغوص في عشر افعال مركبه

using the verb 'come'.

باستعمال فعل come (اتى)

Now, I'm not going to include

الان .. لن اشمل

all of the possible meanings for these phrasal verbs

جميع المعاني محتمله لهذه الافعال

but the meanings I'm going to share

لكن ساشارك

are the commonly used ones,

اكتر شيوعا للاستخدام

the ones that you'll hear come up often in conversation.

التي غالبا سوف تسمعها في المحادثات

So let's start with 'come up'.

فالنبدأ ب ... come up

'Come up' has a few different meanings.

تملك اختلافات قليله في المعنى

It can mean to be mentioned

يكمن ان تعني (الجدير بالذكر)

or talked about in a conversation.

او تحدت عن المحادته

So..

فبالتالي .. متال

If anything important comes up during the meeting,

ان كان هناك اي شيئ جدير بالذكر في الاجتماع

I'll tell you about it later.

ساخبرك عنه لاحقا

Every time I have dinner with my mum,

في كل مرة اتناول العشاء مع امي....

the topic of marriage always comes up!

موضوع الزواج لا بد ان يأتي ( لا بد ان تتحدت عنه)

It can also mean to approach

يمكن ايضا ان تاتي بمعنى الاقتراب

or to go towards someone,

او ذهاب نحو شخص ما

especially if they are on a higher level than you are.

خصوصا لو كان الشخص في مستوى اعلى منك

Come up on stage and collect your award!

اقترب (تعال) الى المنصه وخد جائزتك

Come up to my apartment, it's on the fourth floor.

تعال الى شقتي ، انها في الطابق الرابع

She came up to meet me at a party

لقد جاءت لمقابلتي في الحفله

and we've been friends ever since.

واصبحنا اصدقاء منذ ذلك الحين

Now if something like a job or an opportunity comes up,

الان .. ان اوتيح لك شي ما متل العمل او فرصه

it becomes available.

اي اصبح متاحا لك.

This new opportunity has come up

اوتيحت لنا هذه الفرصة الجديده

and we need to take it.

و علينا ان ننتهزها

Now if a problem

الان ... ان كانت هناك مشكله

or an issue comes up,

او طرحت قضيه

it happens and it needs to be dealt with immediately.

وقعت ويجب التعامل معها على الفور

Something's just come up,

حدث(وقع) شيئ ما ...

so I need to cancel my appointment.

احتاج الى الغاء موعدي

Every time I take a day off,

كل مره اخد فيها يوما للعطله

something always comes up

دائما يحدت شيئ ما

and I'm needed back at the office.

واضطر للعوده الى المكتب

To 'come up with',

خطر لي /توصلت الى

Now, this phrasal verb is transitive

الان ... هذا الفعل متعد

and if you're not exactly sure what that means,

وان كنت غير متاكد من معناه

because I'll explain it for you there.

لاني شرحته هناك

لكن ان كان فعل متعد

But when a phrasal verb is transitive,

you need to include something.

يجب ان يشمل شيئا

You can't just say..

لا يمكن ان تقول .....

Yesterday I came up with.

بالامس خطرت لي ....!!!

Came up with what?

خطر لك ماذا؟؟؟

I came up with a plan.

خطرت لي خطه

I came up with a new idea.

خطرت لي فكره جديده

I came up with a solution.

توصلت الى حل

For this phrasal verb to make sense,

من اجل اعطاء معنى منطقي للفعل

you must always include

لا بد ان يشمل

what you have come up with.

ماذا خطر لك / او الى ماذا توصلت

'Come in'.

ادخل

Well you've probably heard this one

من محتمل انك سمعت هذا

and it means to enter a building or a room.

و يعني ادخل الى المبنى او الغرفه

The TV was so loud, he didn't notice me come in.

صوت التلفاز كان عاليا ولو يلاحظ دخولي

Are you busy? Can I come in?

هل انت مشغول ؟ هل استطيع الدخول

But it can also mean

لكن يمكن ان يعني ايضا

arrive.

الوصول

The train comes in at 3 o'clock.

القطار يصل مع 3

News is coming in that they found

توصلت الاخبار الى انهم وجدوا

survivors in the crash!

الناجون من السحق

But it can also be used when talking about clothing

لكن يمكن ايضا ان يستعمل عندما نتحدت عن الملابس

or fashion.

او الازياء

These shirts come in three colours.

هذا القميص ياتي بتلات الوان

Another common use for this phrasal verb

استعمال اخر لهذا الفعل ...

is when you're talking about the ocean

هو عندما نتحدت عن المحيطات

or specifically, the tide.

او تحديدا ( المد)

When the tide comes in, the water rises

عندما يأتي المد .. ترتفع المياه

and it covers more of the beach.

وتغطي الشاطئ

The tide will come in at about 6 o'clock this evening.

سيحدت المد في 6 مساءا

To 'come out'.

Okay,

اوك:

so 'come out' must be the opposite of 'come in',

اذن come out لابد ان تكون عكس come in

right?

صحييح ؟؟؟

No!

لا!

This is one of the tricky things about phrasal verbs.

هذه من بعض خدع افعال مركبه

Logical opposites are not always correct.

منطقيا ... العكس ليس دائما صحيح

The opposite of 'come in' is

فالعكس ل come in

'go out'.

هو go out ( اخرج)

If some information comes out,

ان ظهرت بعض المعلومات

something that was previously unknown

عن شيئ لم يكن معروفا من قبل

becomes known.

فسوف يصبح معروفا

After ten years,

بعد عشر سنوات

the truth finally came out.

اخيرا ظهرت الحقيقه

Now it can also be a synonym for 'appear'.

الان.. يممن ايضا ان تكون مرادفا ل appear ( ظهر)

There was a dead tree coming out of the water.

ظهرت شجره ميته في الماء

And of course, after a big thunderstorm,

وبالتأكيد؛ بعد عاصف رعديه كبيره

the sun always comes out from behind the clouds.

الشمس دائما تظهر من وراء الغيوم

We use this phrasal verb to say that

the sun or the moon or the stars

نستعمل هذا الفعل لنقول

ان الشمس او القوم او النجوم

have appeared in the sky.

يظهرون في السماء

If your favourite band is working on a new album,

ان كانت مجموعتك المفضله تشتغل على ألبوم جديد

they'll probably tell you when it's going to come out.

من محتمل سوف يخبرانك على موعد صدوره

The new album will come out in June.

سيصدر الالبوم الجديد في يونيو

My sister's new book comes out in December.

الكتاب الجديد لاختي سيصدر في دسمبر

It can also mean to

يمكن ايضا ان يعني

go somewhere with someone for a social event.

الذهاب مع شخص ما لمكان ما لاجل حدت اجتماعي

Do you want to come out with us on Friday night?

هل تريد ان تاتي معنا في الجمعة مساءا

He's not coming out with us tonight because he's unwell.

هو لن يذهب معنا هذه الليله لانه ليس بخير

Come on!

come on ......هيا

'Come on' is an expression that you'll hear all the time!

come on هي عباره تسمعها طوال الوقت

It can mean hurry up.

يمكن ان تعني (بسرعه)

Come on, we're going to be late!

بسرعه .... سوف نتاخر

Or you could use it to encourage

او تستطيع استعمالها لتشجيع

or support someone.

او لدعم احد ما

Come on, you can do it!

هياا... تستطيع فعلها

It can also be used when you

تستعمل ايضا عندما

don't believe something that someone said.

لا تصدق شخص ما

Oh come on! That's not true!

هيا ... هذا ليس صحيحا

'Come on' can also mean to

تاتي ايضا بمعنى

start working.

بدايه العمل

The light in the bathroom just came on.

لقد بدأ يشتغل الضوء في الحمام

The hot water isn't coming on.

الماء الساخن لا يشتغل

Are you sure it's working?

هل انت متاكد انه يشتغل

It can also be used when you're referring to a sickness

يستعمل ايضا للاشاره الى المرض

that is just starting to develop,

الذي بدا في الظهور

usually with a common cold.

وعاده تستعمل مع نزله برد

I think I've got a cold coming on.

اعتقد اني ساصاب بنزله برد

To 'come down'.

come down

Now generally, this phrasal verb is a synonym

عموما ... هو مرادف لكلمه

for reduce or fall.

انخفاض او السقوط

It's used when something moves in a

تستعمل عندما ينتقل شيئ ما الى

downwards direction.

الاتجاه النزولي

There was a big storm last night

كانت هناك عاصفه ليله الماضيه

and many of the trees came down.

و سقطت الكتير من الاشجار

Come down here now!

انزل الى هنا الان

You can use this when you're talking to someone

تستعمل عندما تتحدت مع شخص

who's higher than you,

يوجد اعلى منك

perhaps they're upstairs

ربما يوجد في اعلى الدرج متلا

or in a tree.

او على الشجره

Come down here!

انزل الى هنا

Now, this phrasal verb actually

الان.. هذا الفعل

is the opposite of 'come up'

هو عكس فعل come up

if you think back to the apartment example.

ان تذكرت متال السابق عن الشقه

Your friend might invite you to come up.

صديقك يمكن ان يعزمك للصعود اليه

Or you could tell them to come down.

او يمكنك ان ان تخبره بالنزول اليك

'Come down' is also used something reduces,

تستعمل ايضا لانخفاض

so often the price.

السعر في الغالب

After Christmas, the price of the sofa

بعد العيد، تمن الاريكه

will probably come down.

ربما ينخفض

'Come down' is also used when someone travels

ايضا عند سفر شخص ما

south, to meet you

جنوبا لمقابلتك

or to visit you.

او لزيارتك

He came down from Sydney last night.

لقد جاء (نازلا) من سيدني ليله الماضيه

عائلتهم تاتي دائما في عيد الصفح

Their family comes down for the Easter holidays

every year.

كل عام

But what about to 'come down on'?

لكن ماذا عن come down on

Now, to come down on someone is

الان... come down on

a really negative thing.

هو شيئ سلبي

It means to punish someone

يعني معاقبه شخص ما

because they didn't perform as expected.

لانه لا يؤدي ما هو متوقع منه

My boss came down on me really hard

رئيسي في العمل وبخني

because I didn't finish the report in time.

لان لم اكمل التقرير في الوقت المحدد

To 'come across'.

come across

Again, this phrasal verb has multiple meanings.

مجددا. هذا الفعل لديه معاني عديده

Firstly, it can be used to describe your characteristics

اولا يمكن ان يستعمل لتصف شخصيتك

or the characteristics of someone.

او شخصية شخص ما

Often when you first meet them,

غالبا عند اول لقاء

or you first see them,

او اول رؤيه

to say that they seem to be a particular type of person.

لقول من اي نوعيه من الاشخاص يبدو ...

When we first met, he came across as quite arrogant.

عند اول لقاء . يبدو انه متغطرس للغايه

So when you met her, how did she come across?

عندما رايتها لاول مرة .. كيف بدت لك

What was she like?

كيف كانت تبدو

She comes across really well on television.

انها تبدو رائعه في التلفاز

هذا يعني انها بدت بصوره ايجابيه

So that means she creates a really positive image,

you know, for the station, for the company.

متلا لاجل محطه او شركه

Now, a lot depends

يعتمد كتيرا على

on how you come across in an interview.

كيف تبدو في المقابله

Note that some native English speakers

كملاحظه بعض متقني اللغه الانجليزيه

use the phrasal verb 'come over'

يستعملون فعل come over

in this way too.

بهذه الطريقه

He came over really arrogant.

ييدو انه جد متغطرس

It means he seemed really arrogant.

بمعنى انه يبدو عليه انه متغطرس

To 'come across' something can also mean

come across يعني ايضا

to meet someone

مقابله شخص ما

or to find something, by chance,

او ان تجد شيئ ما بالصدفه

without expecting to.

بدون توقع

When we were walking in the forest,

عندما كنا نتمشى في الغابه

we came across an old abandoned house.

وجدنا بيتا قديما و مهجورا

'Come over'

come over

Again, this phrasal verb has multiple meanings

مجددا لديه معاني كتيره

but the most commonly used one is used to describe

لكن الاكتر شيوعا لوصف

movement.

تحركات

The movement from one place to another.

الحركه لمكان الى اخر

Come over here!

تعال الى هنا

Why don't you come over to my house for dinner?

لماءا لم تاتي للعشاء في منزلي

My brother is coming over from Melbourne

اخي ات من ملبوم

for the weekend.

لاجل عطله اخر اسبوع

Now, it can also be used when someone

ايضا نستعمله عندما يحس

suddenly feels a strong emotion or feeling.

شخص بشعور مفاجئ

I came over a little dizzy.

احسست بالدوار قليلا

When I saw him do it,

عندما رايه يفعلها

a huge wave of anger came over me.

تحرك بداخلي غضب كبير

Now, this can also be expressed with the verb

يمكن ايضا ان تعبر عنها ب

'overcome'.

overcome

You can be overcome with an emotion.

يمكنك تغلب على مشاعرك

'Come at'.

come at

Now this phrasal verb is transitive

هذا فعل متعد

and it usually involves a person or an animal

و عاده يشمل شخص او حيوان

coming towards someone in

ياتي نحو شخص اخر

an aggressive or physical way.

بطريقه عدوانيه

As soon as I opened the gate, the dog came at me.

بمجرد ان فتحت البوابه ... اتى الكلب نحوي

I wasn't expecting him to come at me with a knife.

لو اتوقع ان ياتي الي حاملا سكينا

To 'come back'.

come back

Now, most commonly

الاكتر شيوعا

this phrasal verb is used when somebody or something

تستخدم عندما يكون شخص او شيئ

returns to a place or

عائدا الى مكان او

returns to an original state.

او الى الحاله الاصليه

I'll come back in half an hour and get you.

ساعود بعد نصف ساعه واخدك

I thought I got rid of my cold,

ظننت اني تخلضت من البرد

but I think it's coming back.

لكنه عاد مجددا

When are you coming back home?

متى ستعود الى المنزل

Now as a compound noun,

الان... كاسم مركب

it can mean to attempt to

سياتي بمعنى محاوله

return to former glory.

العوده الى المجد السابق

To try to become famous or important again

محاوله العوده للشهره او الاهميه مجددا

after a period of being less so.

بعد فتره من كونه اقل من ذلك

The wrestler is making a comeback!

المصارع يقوم بالعوده

She hasn't released a book in over ten years,

لم تصدر كتابا منذ عشر سنوات

so I guess now she's making a comeback!

فاعتقد انها ستعود الان

Well

اذن
