Grammar Checkup #1 | Subject Pronouns | 'be' Verbs | Basic English Grammar Course

This is a checkup for subjective pronouns and ‘be’ verbs.

هذا فحص للضمائر الذاتية و "be" verbs.

Let’s take a look at the board.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على السبورة.

The first sentence.

الجملة الأولى.

“___, are bags.”

"___ ، هي حقائب."

Now, bags are things.

الآن ، الحقائب هي الأشياء.

So we can’t say “he” or “she” or, you know, any of those.

لذلك لا يمكننا أن نقول "هو" أو "هي" أو ، كما تعلمون ، أيًا من هؤلاء.

We have to use “it” or “they”.

علينا استخدام "هو" أو "هم".

Now, we have “are….

الآن ، لدينا "….

bags”.

أكياس".

With an ‘s’.

مع 's'.

So that means more than one.

لذلك هذا يعني أكثر من واحد.

We have to use ‘they’.

علينا استخدام "هم".

“They are bags.”

"إنها حقائب."

Okay.

The next sentence we have an animal.

الجملة التالية لدينا حيوان.

“____ is a dog.”

"____ كلب."

Okay.

But just one.

لكن واحد فقط.

Right? ’a’ dog.

حق؟ "كلب".

So this time we use ‘it’.

لذلك هذه المرة نستخدمها.

“It is a dog.”

"إنه كلب."

Now let’s look at these two.

الآن دعونا نلقي نظرة على هذين.

“The girl is an artist.”

"الفتاة فنانة."

We have ‘the girl’.

لدينا "الفتاة".

What is the subjective pronoun for one girl?

ما هو الضمير الشخصي لفتاة واحدة؟

“She.”

"هي."

“She is an artist.”

"هي فنانة."

These two sentences have the same meaning.

هاتان الجملتان لهما نفس المعنى.

They’re the same.

هم نفس الشيء.

Okay, and on the bottom, we have a question.

حسنًا ، وفي الأسفل لدينا سؤال.

When we ask a question, we have to put the ‘be’ verb first.

عندما نطرح سؤالاً ، علينا أن نضع فعل "be" أولاً.

“Are ___ pandas?”

"هل ___ الباندا؟"

“Are ___ pandas?”

"هل ___ الباندا؟"

With an ‘s’.

مع 's'.

That means more than one.

هذا يعني أكثر من واحد.

So, we say, “they”.

لذلك نقول ، "هم".

“Are they pandas?”

"هل هم الباندا؟"

“Yes, ____ are.”

"نعم ، ____."

Again plural.

الجمع مرة أخرى.

So we just use the same.

لذلك نحن فقط نستخدم نفس الشيء.

“They.”

"أنهم."

“Yes, they are.”

"نعم إنهم هم."

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

حسنًا ، دعنا ننتقل إلى الجزء التالي.

Okay, now we’re going to focus on negatives and questions.

حسنًا ، سنركز الآن على السلبيات والأسئلة.

Okay, the first sentence says,

حسنًا ، الجملة الأولى تقول

“I’m a student”.

"أنا طالب".

Okay, “I am…I’m a student”.

حسنًا ، "أنا ... أنا طالب".

Okay.

What if I’m a teacher?

تمام.

ماذا لو كنت مدرسًا؟

Okay, it’s not true.

حسنًا ، هذا ليس صحيحًا.

I need ‘not’.

أحتاج "لا".

Right…

صحيح ...

Remember, ‘not’ goes after the ‘be’ verb.

تذكر أن "ليس" يأتي بعد فعل "be".

“I am…am not.”

"أنا ... لست كذلك."

And then the noun. “…a student.”

ثم الاسم. "…طالب."

“I’m not a student.”

"انا لست طالب."

Okay.

تمام.

“They are teachers.”

"انهم مدرسون."

Okay.

تمام.

And now we have some other people...

والآن لدينا بعض الأشخاص الآخرين ...

and that’s not true.

وهذا ليس صحيحًا.

“They are not teachers.”

"إنهم ليسوا معلمين."

Again, after the ‘be’ verb ‘are’ and before the noun ‘teachers’.

مرة أخرى ، بعد "be" verb "are" وقبل الاسم "teacher".

“They are not teachers.”

"إنهم ليسوا معلمين."

Okay.

تمام.

Now, I’m going to ask you a question.

الآن ، سأطرح عليك سؤالاً.

And you have to answer.

وعليك أن تجيب.

“Are you a student?”

"هل أنت طالب؟"

“Are you a student?”

"هل أنت طالب؟"

Well, you’re taking my class, you’re learning English.

حسنًا ، أنت تأخذ صفي وتتعلم اللغة الإنجليزية.

So, “Yes, I am.”

لذا ، "نعم ، أنا كذلك."

Okay, you should say, “Yes, I am.”

حسنًا ، يجب أن تقول ، "نعم ، أنا كذلك."

But how about this one?

“Are you a monkey?”

"هل أنت قرد؟"

Of course the answer is “No, I’m not”.

“No, I’m not”.

"لا أنا لست كذلك".

Okay, let’s move on to the last part.

حسنًا ، دعنا ننتقل إلى الجزء الأخير.

Now for this last part, we’re going to look at some sentences,

الآن في هذا الجزء الأخير ، سنلقي نظرة على بعض الجمل ،

but there’s something wrong in all of these sentences.

لكن هناك خطأ ما في كل هذه الجمل.

So you have to find the mistakes.

لذلك عليك أن تجد الأخطاء.

The first sentence says, “I’m student”.

الجملة الأولى تقول "أنا طالب".

Okay, look, “student”.

حسنًا ، انظر ، "طالب".

There’s no ‘s’.

لا يوجد "s".

That means just one.

هذا يعني واحد فقط.

Just one.

واحدة فقط.

So remember, if there’s just one, we have to put ‘a’.

لذا تذكر ، إذا كان هناك واحد فقط ، فعلينا أن نضع "أ".

“I’m a student.”

"أنا طالب."

Let’s look at the next one.

“They are student”.

Okay.

This one says, “They are”.

This means there is more than one.

We have to put an ‘s’ to show there’s more than one student.

“She aren’t a baby.”

"إنها ليست طفلة."

“She.”

"هي."

That’s one person.

هذا شخص واحد.

One girl or woman.

فتاة أو امرأة.

“…a baby.”

"…رضيع."

That’s one person.

هذا شخص واحد.

But we put “aren’t”.

لكننا نضع "لا".

Now that’s wrong.

الآن هذا خطأ.

We have to say... ‘isn’t’.

علينا أن نقول ... "لا".

“She isn’t a baby”.

"هي ليست طفلة".

“You isn’t a cat”.

"أنت لست قطة".

Now, for the subjective pronoun ‘you’,

الآن ، بالنسبة للضمير الشخصي "you" ،

we have to have the ‘be’ verb ‘are’.

يجب أن يكون لدينا "be" verb "are".

So not “You isn’t a cat”, but “You aren’t... a cat”.

لذلك ليس "أنت لست قطة" ، ولكن "أنت لست ... قطة".

“You aren’t a cat.”

"أنت لست قطة."

Okay.

تمام.

“Are it a cat?”

"هل هي قطة؟"

Okay. “…a cat.”

تمام. "…قطة."

That’s one animal.

So, do we need ‘are’?

لذا ، هل نحتاج "هي"؟

No, we need the ‘be’ verb ‘is’.

“Is it a cat?”

“Is it a cat?”

Okay, so that was the checkup for subjective pronouns and ‘be’ verbs.
