Let's do a checkup of the present simple tense.

We'll take a look at the affirmative, negative, and question forms.

Let's start with the first checkup.

In this checkup, I want you to focus on the ‘be’ verbs.

في هذا الفحص، أريدك أن تركز على أفعال "be".

Remember ‘be’ verbs, in the present simple tense, can be ‘is’, ‘am’, or ‘are’.

تذكر أن أفعال "be" في زمن المضارع البسيط يمكن أن تكون "is" أو "am" أو "are".

Take a look at the first sentence.

نلقي نظرة على الجملة الأولى.

It says, ‘She _ blank _ at school.’

مكتوب عليها، "إنها فارغة في المدرسة".

The subject of this sentence is ‘she’.

موضوع هذه الجملة هو "هي".

What ‘be’ verb do we use for ‘she’?

ما الفعل "be" الذي نستخدمه لـ "she"؟

The correct answer is ‘is’.

الجواب الصحيح هو "هو".

Now if you were thinking of the negative, the correct answer would be ‘she isn't’

الآن إذا كنت تفكر بالنفي، فإن الإجابة الصحيحة ستكون "هي ليست"

or ‘she is not’.

أو "هي ليست كذلك".

That's correct as well.

وهذا صحيح أيضا.

And if we want to use a contraction for ‘she is’, we can say ‘she's at school’

وإذا أردنا استخدام الاختصار لـ "هي هي"، فيمكننا أن نقول "إنها في المدرسة"

For the next one, it says, ‘They _ blank _ twenty years old.’

للجملة التالية، "إنهم_فارغون_عمرهم عشرين عامًا".

The subject of this sentence is ‘they’.

وموضوع هذه الجملة هو "هم".

What ‘be’ verb do we use for ‘they’?

ما الفعل "be" الذي نستخدمه لـ "they"؟

The correct answer is ‘are’.

الإجابة الصحيحة هي "هي".

For the negative, you can also use ‘aren't’ or ‘are not’.

بالنسبة للسلبية، يمكنك أيضًا استخدام "ليست" أو "ليست".

Also if you want to use the contraction for ‘they are’, you can say,

وأيضًا إذا كنت تريد استخدام الاختصار لـ "they are"، فيمكنك أن تقول

‘They're 20 years old.’

The next sentence says, ‘His father _ blank_ busy.’

الجملة التالية تقول، "والده_فارغ_مشغول."

The subject of this sentence is ‘his father’.

وموضوع هذه الجملة هو "والده".

What subject pronoun do we use for ‘his father’?

ما ضمير الفاعل الذي نستخدمه لـ "والده"؟

The correct answer is ‘he’.

الجواب الصحيح هو "هو".

Remember for ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’, the ‘be’ verb is ‘is’.

تذكر أن "هو"، "هي"، "هو"، الفعل "يكون" هو "هو".

For the negative, we can say ‘isn't’ or ‘is not’.

بالنسبة للسلبية، يمكننا أن نقول "ليست" أو "ليست".

And for a contraction, for ‘father’ and ‘is’, we can say, ‘His father's busy.’

وللاختصار، بالنسبة لـ "الأب" و"هو"، يمكننا أن نقول، "والده مشغول".

Now I want you to try to find the mistakes in this sentence.

الآن أريدك أن تحاول العثور على الأخطاء في هذه الجملة.

‘We isn't good friends.’

This is the mistake.

هذا هو الخطأ.

The subject is ‘we’ and the ‘be’ verb is ‘are’.

الفاعل هو "نحن" والفعل "يكون" هو "هي".

Therefore, the correct answer is ‘we are not’,

ولذلك فإن الإجابة الصحيحة هي "لسنا كذلك"،

or the contraction, ‘we aren't good friends.’

أو الاختصار "نحن لسنا أصدقاء جيدين".

The next sentence.

الجملة التالية.

Can you find the mistake?

يمكنك العثور على خطأ؟

‘Are John a teacher?’

"هل جون معلم؟"

Think about the subject of this sentence.

فكر في موضوع هذه الجملة.

The subject is ‘John’.

الموضوع هو "جون".

And ‘John’, the subject pronoun is ‘he’.

و"جون" ضمير الفاعل هو "هو".

Therefore, we don't use ‘are’, we use ‘is’.

لذلك، نحن لا نستخدم "هي"، بل نستخدم "هو".

‘Is John a teacher?’

"هل جون معلم؟"

‘Is John a teacher?’

"هل جون معلم؟"

And finally, ‘It am a puppy.’

وأخيرا، "أنا جرو".

hmm This one is a big mistake.

حسنًا، هذا خطأ كبير.

The subject here is ‘it’.

الموضوع هنا هو "هو".

What ‘be’ verb do we use for ‘it’?

ما الفعل "be" الذي نستخدمه لـ "it"؟

The correct answer is ‘is’.

الجواب الصحيح هو "هو".

So we don't say, ‘It am a puppy,’ we say, ‘It is a puppy.’

For the next checkup, I want you to think of some other verbs in the present simple tense.

Take a look at the first sentence.

‘He __ blank __ …’, I want you to think of the verb, ‘like his dinner’.

"هو __ فارغ __ ..."، أريدك أن تفكر في الفعل، "مثل عشاءه".

What do we do to the verb when the subject is ‘he’, ‘she’, or ‘it’?

ماذا نفعل للفعل عندما يكون الفاعل هو "هو" أو "هي" أو "هو"؟

Remember we add an ‘s’.

‘He likes his dinner.’

"إنه يحب عشاءه."

For the negative, you can also say, ‘He doesn't like his dinner.’

The next sentence says, ‘My students __ blank __…’, I want you to think of ‘need’,

What is the subject pronoun for ‘my students’?

The correct answer is ‘they’.

الجواب الصحيح هو "هم".

If the subject is ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘we’, or ‘they’, in the present simple tense,

إذا كان الفاعل هو "أنا" أو "أنت" أو "نحن" أو "هم"، في زمن المضارع البسيط،

we don't change the verb, we keep it as is.

فإننا لا نغير الفعل، بل نبقيه كما هو.

So the correct answer is, ‘My students need books.’

لذا فإن الإجابة الصحيحة هي: "طلابي بحاجة إلى الكتب".

Now for the negative, you can say, ‘My students don't need books.’

الآن بالنسبة للسلبية، يمكنك أن تقول: "طلابي لا يحتاجون إلى الكتب".

The next sentence says, ‘I __ blank __…’, think of the verb,

الجملة التالية تقول، "أنا __ فارغ __..."، فكر في الفعل،

‘…live in London.’

"... أعيش في لندن."

What do we do here?

ماذا نفعل هنا؟

Again the subject is ‘I’, therefore we don't change the verb.

مرة أخرى، الفاعل هو "أنا"، لذلك نحن لا نغير الفعل.

The correct answer is, ‘I live in London.’

الإجابة الصحيحة هي: "أنا أعيش في لندن".

What's the negative?

ما هو السلبي؟

‘I don't live in London.’

"أنا لا أعيش في لندن."

For the next part, I would like for you to try to find the mistake in the sentence.

في الجزء التالي، أود منك أن تحاول العثور على الخطأ في الجملة.

‘He doesn't likes math.’

"إنه لا يحب الرياضيات."

What's the error here?

ما الخطأ هنا؟

Well this is a negative.

حسنا هذا أمر سلبي.

‘He doesn't…’, that's correct.

"إنه لا..."، هذا صحيح.

However, we do not add an ‘s’ when we have ‘doesn't’ in front of ‘it’.

ومع ذلك، فإننا لا نضيف "s" عندما يكون لدينا "لا" قبل "it".

‘Do he eat candy?’

"هل يأكل الحلوى؟"

Here we have a question.

وهنا لدينا سؤال.

The subject of the sentence is ‘he’.

موضوع الجملة هو "هو".

For ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’, when we're making a sentence in the present simple tense,

we use ‘does’ not ‘do’.

So the correct answer is, ‘Does he eat candy?’

And finally, ‘Sam is play computer games.’

There are two present simple verbs here and we can't have that,

يوجد فعلان في المضارع البسيط هنا ولا يمكننا فعل ذلك،

so the correct way to fix this sentence is to get rid of the ‘is’.

لذا فإن الطريقة الصحيحة لإصلاح هذه الجملة هي التخلص من "is".

So take that out and say, ‘Sam plays computer games.’

لذا أخرج ذلك وقل، "سام يلعب ألعاب الكمبيوتر."

Add an ‘s’ because the subject is ‘Sam’ which is a ‘he’.

أضف "s" لأن الموضوع هو "Sam" وهو "هو".

For this next practice, we're taking a look at routines.

Remember the present simple tense can be used to describe events that happen regularly.

تذكر أنه يمكن استخدام زمن المضارع البسيط لوصف الأحداث التي تحدث بانتظام.

Let's take a look at the first sentence,

دعونا نلقي نظرة على الجملة الأولى،

‘We _ blank _ the bus every day.’

"نحن نفرغ الحافلة كل يوم."

And I want you to use the verb ‘take’.

وأريدك أن تستخدم الفعل "يأخذ".

Here we see the clue word ‘every day’ which shows that this is a routine.

نرى هنا الكلمة الدليلية "كل يوم" والتي توضح أن هذا روتين.

The subject of the sentence is ‘we’.

موضوع الجملة هو "نحن".

In the present simple tense,

في زمن المضارع البسيط،

remember if the subject is ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘we’, or ‘they’,

تذكر إذا كان الفاعل هو "أنا" أو "أنت" أو "نحن" أو "هم"،

we do not change the verb.

فإننا لا نغير الفعل.

Therefore the correct answer is, ‘We take the bus every day.’

ولذلك فإن الإجابة الصحيحة هي: "نحن نستقل الحافلة كل يوم".

In the second sentence it says, ‘He _ blank _ to school every morning.’

في الجملة الثانية تقول: "إنه يذهب إلى المدرسة كل صباح".

Again a routine.

مرة أخرى روتين.

The subject here is ‘he’.

والموضوع هنا هو "هو".

What do we do if the subject is ‘he’, ‘she’, or ‘it’?

ماذا نفعل إذا كان الفاعل هو "هو" أو "هي" أو "هو"؟

We add ‘s’ or ‘es’ to the verb.

نضيف "s" أو "es" إلى الفعل.

In this example, the verb is ‘go’, so we have to add ‘es’.

في هذا المثال، الفعل هو "go"، لذا علينا إضافة "es".

‘He goes to school every morning.’

"إنه يذهب إلى المدرسة كل صباح."

In the next sentence, it says, ‘Lizzy not play (in parenthesis) tennis.’

في الجملة التالية، تقول، "ليزي لا تلعب التنس (بين قوسين)".

Here I want you to think about the negative form.

هنا أريدك أن تفكر في الشكل السلبي.

Lizzy is a ‘she’.

ليزي هي "هي".

The subject pronoun is ‘she’ so what do we do for the negative?

ضمير الفاعل هو "هي" فماذا نفعل للسلبية؟

We say ‘does not’ or the contraction ‘doesn't play tennis’.

نقول "لا" أو الانكماش "لا يلعب التنس".

We do not add an ‘s’ or ‘es’ to the end of the verb.

لا نضيف s أو es إلى نهاية الفعل.

Instead we say ‘doesn't’ or ‘does not’.

وبدلا من ذلك نقول "لا" أو "لا".

Now I want you to find a mistake in the next sentence.

الآن أريدك أن تجد خطأ في الجملة التالية.

‘They watches TV at night.’

"إنهم يشاهدون التلفاز في الليل."

Can you figure out what's wrong with the sentence?

هل يمكنك معرفة ما هو الخطأ في الجملة؟

The subject is ‘they’.

الموضوع هو "هم".

Therefore, remember, we do not change the verb.

لذلك، تذكر أننا لا نغير الفعل.

We say ‘watch’.

نقول "مشاهدة".

‘They watch TV at night’.

"إنهم يشاهدون التلفاز في الليل".

In the next sentence, or question, it says, ‘Does he plays soccer every week?’

في الجملة أو السؤال التالي، يقول: "هل يلعب كرة القدم كل أسبوع؟"

The subject of the sentence is ‘he’.

موضوع الجملة هو "هو".

To make a sentence, putting ‘does’ at the beginning is okay,

لتكوين جملة، لا بأس بوضع "dos" في البداية،

However, we don't put an ‘s’ at the end of ‘play’.

ومع ذلك، لا نضع "s" في نهاية "play".

Therefore, the correct answer is to simply say,

ولذلك فإن الإجابة الصحيحة هي أن تقول ببساطة:

‘Does he play soccer every week?’

هل يلعب كرة القدم كل أسبوع؟

And finally, ‘He always forget his book.’

In this case, the subject is ‘he’.

Remember, again, for he/she/it we add 's' or 'es' to the end of the verb.

What's the verb in the sentence?

It's ‘forget’.

Therefore we have to say, ‘He always forgets his book.’

What is the subject of the sentence?

The correct answer is ‘airplane’.

What subject pronoun do we use for ‘airplane’?

ما ضمير الموضوع الذي نستخدمه لـ "الطائرة"؟

It's ‘it’.

انها ل'.

Remember in the present simple tense, for ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’, we add an ‘s’

تذكر في زمن المضارع البسيط، بالنسبة لـ "he"، "she"، "it"، نضيف "s"

or ‘es’ to the verb.

أو "es" إلى الفعل.

The verb here is ‘leave’ so we simply add an ‘s’.

الفعل هنا هو "اترك" لذلك نضيف ببساطة حرف "s".

The correct answer is, ‘The airplane leaves tonight.’

الإجابة الصحيحة هي: "الطائرة تغادر الليلة".

In the second sentence, it says, ‘Does the movie _blank_ soon?’

في الجملة الثانية تقول: "هل الفيلم _فارغ_قريبا؟"

And we're using the verb ‘start’.

ونحن نستخدم الفعل "ابدأ".

What is the subject of this sentence?

ما هو موضوع هذه الجملة؟

It’s ‘movie’.

إنه "فيلم".

And what subject pronoun do we use for movie?

وما ضمير الموضوع الذي نستخدمه للفيلم؟

It’s ‘it’.

انها ل'.

So it's like saying, ‘Does it _ blank _ soon?’

لذلك يبدو الأمر وكأنك تقول: "هل سيصبح فارغًا قريبًا؟"

Well this is a question, so we already have the correct word in the front - ‘does’.

حسنًا، هذا سؤال، لذا لدينا بالفعل الكلمة الصحيحة في المقدمة - "يفعل".

For he/she/it, when we're asking a question, we use ‘does’.

Now all we have to do is use the same verb in its base form,

so ‘Does the movie start soon?’

We do not add an ‘s’ or ‘es’ here.

The subject of the sentence is ‘Vicki’.

موضوع الجملة هو "فيكي".

‘Vicki’ is a girl so the subject pronoun is ‘she’.

"Vicki" هي فتاة لذا فإن ضمير الموضوع هو "هي".

You'll remember now that for… in this case, we put ‘works’.

ستتذكر الآن أنه من أجل... في هذه الحالة، وضعنا كلمة "works".

w-o-r-k-s ‘works’.

يعمل "يعمل".

‘Vicki works tomorrow.’

""فيكي تعمل غدًا.""

Now let's find the mistakes in the sentence below.

الآن دعونا نجد الأخطاء في الجملة أدناه.

‘He do leave at 3:30 p.m.’

"إنه يغادر الساعة 3:30 مساءً"

Actually there's only one mistake.

في الواقع هناك خطأ واحد فقط.

Can you find it?

هل تستطيع ايجاده؟

‘He do leave at 3:30 p.m.’

"إنه يغادر الساعة 3:30 مساءً"

We do not need the ‘do’ here.

لا نحتاج إلى كلمة "افعل" هنا.

We only use ‘do’ in a question or in the negative form.

نحن نستخدم "do" فقط في السؤال أو بصيغة النفي.

But also the subject is ‘he’, so we would use ‘does’.

ولكن الفاعل أيضًا هو "هو"، لذلك نستخدم "يفعل".

Either way we don't need this here.

وفي كلتا الحالتين لا نحتاج هذا هنا.

Well now we have the verb ‘leave’ with the subject ‘he’.

حسنًا، لدينا الآن الفعل "يترك" مع الفاعل "هو".

Do you know what to do?

هل تعرف ماذا تفعل؟

We simply change this to ‘leaves’.

نحن ببساطة نغير هذا إلى "الأوراق".

Just like we did in the first sentence.

‘He leaves at 3:30 p.m.’

In the next sentence, ‘They don't start school today.’

في الجملة التالية، "إنهم لا يبدأون المدرسة اليوم."

We have a negative sentence.

لدينا جملة سلبية.

‘They don't…’, that's correct.

"إنهم لا..."، هذا صحيح.

‘…do not’ is correct.

"... لا" هو الصحيح.

For subject pronoun ‘they’.

لضمير الموضوع "هم".

However, in the negative form, we don't have to change the main verb at all.

ومع ذلك، في صيغة النفي، ليس علينا تغيير الفعل الرئيسي على الإطلاق.

Therefore, all we will do is say, ‘They don't start school today.’

لذلك، كل ما سنفعله هو أن نقول: "إنهم لن يبدأوا المدرسة اليوم".

No ‘s’.

لا 's'.

Finally, ‘Does we eat at noon?’

The correct answer is ‘do’.

We say ‘do’.

نحن نقول "افعل".

So the correct way to say this sentence or question is,

لذا فإن الطريقة الصحيحة لقول هذه الجملة أو السؤال هي:

‘Do we eat at noon?’

"هل نأكل عند الظهر؟"
