Don't Stop Saying I DON'T KNOW In English!

So I've been doing a little bit of research.

I was curious, and I wanted to know

what the most common response that people would give

if they didn't know the answer to a question.

So over the last few months I've kept track.

And the most common response is the English phrase,

I do not know.

More precisely, people usually say, "I don't know."

They use the contraction.

Or informally, they'll say, "I dunno."

That's the fastest way to say that you don't know something.

But I thought for variety, it would be interesting

for you if I taught you some alternatives.

So in this English lesson

I'll teach you eight more ways to say

If you look behind me here, you can see

And if you asked me this question,

And if I didn't know the answer,

I could use one of the following four phrases.

I could say, "I don't have a clue."

I like the last one.

It's really short and sweet.

This isn't actually true though.

I do actually know what happened to this tree.

We had a windstorm the other night

and a few of the branches couldn't handle the speed

And they could respond with one of three phrases.

Once again, the last one is very informal

I'm sure you've been

on a long trip before with a friend or a relative,

and after driving for a while, they might ask you,

if you don't know the answer would be to say,

This is very common.

I say this a lot to my kids when we're driving.

And I'll say, "I don't know.

Basically what this means is, I don't know,

so if you kind of guess how much longer it is,

that'll be just as good an answer as the one I would give,

Sometimes someone will ask you a question and you know

Maybe you're in math class and the teacher says,

A good response would be to say this.

When you say, "I'm drawing a blank,"

it indicates that you don't know the answer,

So I mentioned the phrase,

Now, the first one I've heard quite a bit recently.

The second one is a little more rare,

but they are both accurate English phrases that you can use

You could say, "I don't have the faintest idea,"

Sometimes someone will ask you a question

in that situation is to use the little question,

So when someone asks a question

I don't know is to simply say, "Beats me."

Maybe someone asks you this question.

You could say, "Beats me."

Let's imagine a couple of children are talking
