Don't Stop Saying I DON'T KNOW In English!

So I've been doing a little bit of research.

Então eu tenho feito um pouco de pesquisa.

I was curious, and I wanted to know

what the most common response that people would give

if they didn't know the answer to a question.

So over the last few months I've kept track.

And the most common response is the English phrase,

I do not know.

More precisely, people usually say, "I don't know."

They use the contraction.

Or informally, they'll say, "I dunno."

That's the fastest way to say that you don't know something.

But I thought for variety, it would be interesting

for you if I taught you some alternatives.

So in this English lesson

We had a windstorm the other night

and a few of the branches couldn't handle the speed

Sometimes we order pizza, but we order too much,

I'm sure you've been

and after driving for a while, they might ask you,

This is very common.

I say this a lot to my kids when we're driving.

And I'll say, "I don't know.

Basically what this means is, I don't know,

so if you kind of guess how much longer it is,

that'll be just as good an answer as the one I would give,

Sometimes someone will ask you a question and you know

When you say, "I'm drawing a blank,"

it indicates that you don't know the answer,

So, you could just just say, "I'm drawing a blank."

So I mentioned the phrase,

Now, the first one I've heard quite a bit recently.

The second one is a little more rare,

but they are both accurate English phrases that you can use

Sometimes someone will ask you a question

about something that might happen in the future.

So when someone asks a question

about the future and you don't know the answer,

this is a great way to respond, to simply say, "Who knows?"

I don't know is to simply say, "Beats me."

This is a little more informal.
