Here’s an interesting phrase that can be used to  show the popularity of a certain person or thing.

إليك عبارة مثيرة للاهتمام يمكن استخدامها لإظهار مدى شعبية شخص أو شيء معين.

To be popular during the current period can be  described as being ‘the flavour of the month’.

أن تكون مشهورًا خلال الفترة الحالية يمكن وصفها بأنها "نكهة الشهر".

To be the flavour of the month  means that something is popular.

أن تكون نكهة الشهر يعني أن شيئًا ما شائع. يمكن وصف

A certain person or perhaps a trend that  is currently seen as fashionable or popular

شخص معين أو ربما اتجاه يُنظر إليه حاليًا على أنه عصري أو شائع

can be described as ‘the flavour of the month’.

على أنه "نكهة الشهر".

A pop star or an actor might come from nowhere  and be lauded with praise and positive reviews.

قد يأتي نجم البوب ​​أو الممثل من العدم ويتم الإشادة به بالمديح والتعليقات الإيجابية.

That person is the flavour of the month.

هذا الشخص هو نكهة الشهر. من المرجح أن يتم وصف

A certain style of dress or accessory  that suddenly becomes the ‘must have’ item

will most likely be described as  being the flavour of the month.

“Open shoulders on ladies dresses and tops are the  flavour of the month at this year’s fashion show.”

A certain genre of movie or book  might become the flavour of the month.

نوع معين من الأفلام أو الكتاب هو نكهة الشهر.

That particular type of story has become  popular amongst moviegoers and reader.

أصبح هذا النوع المحدد من القصص شائعًا بين رواد السينما والقراء.

“Right now superhero movies are the  flavour of the month for moviegoers.”

"أفلام الأبطال الخارقين الآن هي نكهة الشهر لرواد السينما."

“Historical tales of colonial Britain have  become the flavour of the month for readers.”

"أصبحت الحكايات التاريخية لبريطانيا الاستعمارية هي نكهة الشهر للقراء".

Of course it is possible to stop being  fashionable and lose that popularity.

بالطبع من الممكن أن تتوقف عن أن تكون عصريًا وتفقد تلك الشعبية. كان

The thing in question was  the flavour of the month,

الشيء المعني هو نكهة الشهر ،

until something new came along to take its place.

حتى جاء شيء جديد ليحل محله.

It would be fair to say  that whatever the thing is…

سيكون من العدل أن نقول إنه مهما كان الشيء ... سواء كان

be it in show business, fashion,  kid’s toys, or entertainment;

ذلك في عرض الأعمال أو الأزياء أو ألعاب الأطفال أو الترفيه ؛

it is not easy to become  the ‘flavour of the month’.

ليس من السهل أن تصبح "نكهة الشهر".

And when it does happen, quite  often, it does not last long.

وعندما يحدث ذلك ، في كثير من الأحيان ، لا يدوم طويلاً.

It’s time to take a look at another buzzword.

حان الوقت لإلقاء نظرة على كلمة طنانة أخرى.

A buzzword is a word or phrase that is popular  

الكلمة الطنانة هي كلمة أو عبارة شائعة

during a certain period or is  generally popular in everyday use.

خلال فترة معينة أو شائعة بشكل عام في الاستخدام اليومي.

Today’s buzzword is…

‘deepfake’.

"التزييف العميق".

The word ‘deepfake’ is a noun that names  a video that has been manipulated somehow

كلمة "deepfake" هي اسم يسمي مقطع فيديو تم التلاعب به بطريقة ما

to create a false news story or  to spread untrue information.

لإنشاء قصة إخبارية كاذبة أو لنشر معلومات غير صحيحة.

This normally involves using a computer  generated representation of a well-known person,

يتضمن هذا عادةً استخدام تمثيل تم إنشاؤه بواسطة الكمبيوتر لشخص معروف جيدًا ،

which has been superimposed or merged  onto the body of another person.

والذي تم فرضه أو دمجه في جسم شخص آخر.

The movement of their mouth might be altered  or their body might have been altered somehow.

Oh my, what has happened to master Duncan?

Where has he gone?

Okay I’m back.

That was not a good example of a deepfake,

but you get the general idea.

Have you ever been tricked by a deepfake video?

Here are two words that appear similar,

فيما يلي كلمتان متشابهتان ،

but in fact have very different meanings.

لكنهما في الواقع لهما معاني مختلفة جدًا.

The words are ‘elude’ and ‘allude’.

الكلمات "المراوغة" و "تلمح".

First of all, the word ‘elude’  means to avoid or escape capture.

بادئ ذي بدء ، تعني كلمة "المراوغة" تجنب الأسر أو الهروب منها.

To hide away or move to another place  so as to avoid being caught is ‘elude’.

الاختباء بعيدًا أو الانتقال إلى مكان آخر لتجنب الوقوع هو "المراوغة".

To avoid capture by using clever  or cunning methods is to ‘elude’.

لتجنب الالتقاط باستخدام الأساليب الذكية أو الماكرة هو "المراوغة".

“The escaped prisoner has  so far eluded the police.”

"السجين الهارب حتى الآن أفلت من الشرطة".

“The man managed to elude the police  for a week before he was captured.”

"تمكن الرجل من مراوغة الشرطة لمدة أسبوع قبل أن يتم القبض عليه". قد يراوغك

Something that cannot be remembered  or understood might elude you.

شيء لا يمكن تذكره أو فهمه.

It cannot be remembered or comprehended.

لا يمكن تذكره أو فهمه.

“The subject of Quantum  Physics eludes most people.”

"موضوع فيزياء الكم يراوغ معظم الناس." قد يتم التعبير عن

To fail in achieving  something that has been sought  

الفشل في تحقيق شيء تم السعي إليه

or worked for might be expressed as ‘elude’.

أو العمل من أجله على أنه "المراوغة". لقد

You almost reached your goal  but in the end it eluded you.

كادت أن تصل إلى هدفك ولكن في النهاية استعصت عليك.

“Sadly for the British swimming team,  that sought after gold medal eluded them.”

"للأسف بالنسبة لفريق السباحة البريطاني ، الذي سعى وراء الميدالية الذهبية استعصى عليهم."

Then there is the word ‘allude’

ثم هناك كلمة "تلميح"

which means to indirectly mention or hint  at something, without saying it directly.

والتي تعني الإشارة أو التلميح بشكل غير مباشر إلى شيء ما ، دون قوله بشكل مباشر. تمت

It is alluded to, but not said explicitly.

الإشارة إليه ، ولكن لم يتم ذكره صراحة.

This word is not used with an object,  

لا يتم استخدام هذه الكلمة مع كائن ،

but instead is used to make a  suggestion without being too direct.

ولكن بدلاً من ذلك يتم استخدامها لتقديم اقتراح دون أن تكون مباشرة للغاية.

You might allude to the guilt of  a person in a crime investigation.

قد تلمح إلى ذنب شخص في تحقيق جريمة.

“You asked me where I was last Friday  night, what are you alluding to?”

"سألتني أين كنت ليلة الجمعة الماضية ، ما الذي تلمح إليه؟"

“You often allude to me having an affair,  but I can assure you it is not true.”

"غالبًا ما تلمح إلى أن لديّ علاقة غرامية ، لكن يمكنني أن أؤكد لك أن هذا ليس صحيحًا."

To allude is to hint,  suggest, imply, mention, cite.

التلميح هو التلميح ، الاقتراح ، الإيحاء ، الإشارة ، الاستشهاد.

You might make an allusion to something.

قد تشير إلى شيء ما.

You don’t say it directly.

أنت لا تقول ذلك مباشرة. يمكن وصف

A brief or short mention of something  can be described as alluding.

الإشارة الموجزة أو القصيرة لشيء ما على أنها تلميح.

You don’t want to talk for a long  time about a particular subject,

أنت لا تريد التحدث لفترة طويلة عن موضوع معين ،

so instead you simply allude to it.

لذا بدلاً من ذلك ، فإنك ببساطة تلمح إليه.

So there you have them; two  words that look similar,

but are in fact very different indeed.

Isn’t it strange how sometimes,

two thing can go together so well.

A combination of separate; contrasting  things join together to match up perfectly.

There is a great phrase in English  that describes this occurrence.

هناك عبارة رائعة في اللغة الإنجليزية تصف هذا الحدوث.

They go together like ‘peas in a pod’.

We can also say ‘two peas in a pod’.

يمكننا أيضًا أن نقول "قطعتان من البازلاء في الكبسولة".

Also, things that match or  complement each other well;

أيضًا ، الأشياء التي تتطابق أو تكمل بعضها البعض جيدًا ؛

go together like ‘a pair of socks’.

Although quite often I’ve noticed  that my socks do not go together well.

They are often odd.

They are different from each other.

They do not match.

Two things that do not go together  well might be described as being like

‘chalk and cheese’.

Two things that do not match or  might in fact clash with each other

are as different as chalk and cheese.

Key.

مفتاح.

You can have a ‘keyhole’,

يمكن أن يكون لديك "ثقب المفتاح" ،

which is where you insert a key  so as to lock or unlock a door.

حيث يتم إدخال مفتاح لقفل أو فتح الباب.

Then there is ‘key fob’  which is a piece of material

ثم هناك "key fob" وهي قطعة من المواد

that helps you to hold and carry a set of keys.

تساعدك على إمساك وحمل مجموعة من المفاتيح.

Then there is ‘key cutter’ which  is a machine for making a door key.

ثم هناك "قاطع المفاتيح" وهو آلة لصنع مفتاح الباب.

Then there is ‘key chain’, which is a long chain

ثم هناك "سلسلة مفاتيح" ، وهي سلسلة طويلة

used for attaching a set of  keys to a person’s clothing.

تستخدم لربط مجموعة من المفاتيح بملابس الشخص.

And finally there is ‘house key’,

وأخيرًا هناك "مفتاح المنزل" ،

which is the key to the door of your house,

وهو مفتاح باب منزلك ،

be it at the front, the back, or the side.

سواء كان في الأمام أو الخلف أو الجانب.
