Today, we're going to learn about active and passive voice in English with different tenses.

Now, I know many of you know how to use the active voice but switching it to the passive

voice can be somewhat confusing.

And then now, we're going to use different tenses as well.

Past tense, present tense and future tense.

Let's get to it.

So let's review changing from active voice to passive voice.

So here, “The child is opening the door.”

Então aqui, “A criança está abrindo a porta.”

We learned, from before, that active voices, they follow the subject verb object pattern.

Aprendemos, desde antes, que as vozes ativas seguem o padrão sujeito verbo objeto.

Here our subject, or the doer, is ‘the child’.

Aqui nosso sujeito, ou o agente, é ‘a criança’.

But what is the child doing?

Mas o que a criança está fazendo?

“The child is opening ...”

“A criança está abrindo...”

Here we have ‘ing’ attached to our verb, ‘open’, which makes ‘opening’.

Aqui temos ‘ing’ anexado ao nosso verbo, ‘open’, que faz ‘abertura’.

This is present continuous which means that the child is opening the door right now.

Isso é presente contínuo, o que significa que a criança está abrindo a porta agora.

At this moment.

Neste momento.

And of course the receiver is ‘the door’.

E, claro, o receptor é "a porta".

Now, when we're switching over to passive voice, we learned from before, that our doer

and our receiver swap places.

e nosso receptor trocam de lugar.

So like in our sentence here, our doer and receiver are now in two different spots.

So ‘the door’ is now in the beginning of the sentence.

And ‘the child’ is at the end.

“The door is being opened by the child.”

‘The door’, still our receiver, is being opened.

'A porta', ainda nosso receptor, está sendo aberta.

hmm, so now our verb has changed a little bit.

hmm, agora nosso verbo mudou um pouco.

Our action has changed.

Nossa ação mudou.

So we still have ‘is’.

Portanto, ainda temos 'é'.

And we have ‘being’, so we have our “to be” verb

E temos 'ser', então temos nosso verbo "ser",

but we must continue our present continuous and bring down the ‘ing’.

mas devemos continuar nosso presente contínuo e diminuir o 'ing'.

So, “… is being…” and we have our past participle ‘opened’.

“… is being opened by the child.”

“… está sendo aberto pela criança.”

And here we have our preposition with the doer.

And sometimes the doer is left out of sentences.

And that's okay as long as we know that the door is being opened.

Now, let's practice and learn about some more tenses.

Let's practice going from active voice to passive voice using different tenses.

Vamos praticar a transição da voz ativa para a voz passiva usando tempos verbais diferentes.

Let's go ahead and practice some of these tenses together starting with the present simple.

Vamos praticar alguns desses tempos juntos, começando com o presente simples.

“The teacher helps the student.”

“O professor ajuda o aluno.”

So we know that this is an active voice.

Portanto, sabemos que esta é uma voz ativa.

And now we're going to change it into passive voice.

E agora vamos mudar para voz passiva.

“The student is helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno é ajudado pelo professor.”

And ‘is’ is our “to be” verb.

E 'é' é o nosso verbo "ser".

And the past participle would be ‘helped’.

E o particípio passado seria ‘ajudado’.

Let's look at present continuous.

Vejamos o presente contínuo.

“The teacher is helping the student.”

“O professor está ajudando o aluno.”

Oh there's that ‘ing’ again.

Oh, há aquele 'ing' de novo.

And we'll switch that over to, “The student is being …”

E vamos mudar isso para, “O aluno está sendo...”

ah and there's the present continuous back with us and our “to be” verb.

ah, e há o presente contínuo de volta conosco e nosso verbo “ser”.

‘helped’ there is our past participle.

'ajudou' lá é nosso particípio passado.

“… by the teacher.”

“… pelo professor.”

Present perfect.

Presente perfeito.

“The teacher has helped the student.”

“O professor ajudou o aluno.”

“The student has been helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno foi ajudado pelo professor.”

Past simple.

Passado simples.

“The teacher helped the student.”

“O professor ajudou o aluno.”

“The student was helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno foi ajudado pelo professor.”

Past continuous.

Passado contínuo.

“The teacher was helping the student.”

“O professor estava ajudando o aluno.”

“The student was being helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno estava sendo ajudado pelo professor.”

Okay, so past perfect.

Ok, então passado perfeito.

“The teacher had helped the student.”

“O professor ajudou o aluno.”

“The student had been helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno foi ajudado pelo professor.”

Future simple.

Futuro simples.

“The teacher will help the student.”

“O professor vai ajudar o aluno.”

“The student will be helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno será ajudado pelo professor.”

Future continuous.

Futuro contínuo.

“The teacher will be helping the student.”

“O professor estará ajudando o aluno.”

“The student will be being helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno estará sendo auxiliado pelo professor.”

And everyone just remember that this tense is normally not used with the passive voice.

E lembre-se de que esse tempo normalmente não é usado com a voz passiva.

Future perfect.

Futuro perfeito.

“The teacher will have helped the student.”

“O professor terá ajudado o aluno.”

“The student will have been helped by the teacher.”

“O aluno terá sido ajudado pelo professor.”
