Active and Passive Voice in Different English Tenses with Examples | Learn English Grammar

Today, we're going to learn about active and passive voice in English with different tenses.

今日は、時制の異なる英語の能動態と受動態について学びます。

Now, I know many of you know how to use the active voice but switching it to the passive

さて、能動態の使い方はご存知の方も多いと思いますが、受動態に切り替えるのは

voice can be somewhat confusing.

少々混乱するかもしれません。

And then now, we're going to use different tenses as well.

そして今度は、異なる時制も使用することにします。

Past tense, present tense and future tense.

過去形、現在形、そして未来形。

Oh my gosh.

なんてことだ。

What are we gonna do?

何をしましょうか？

No worries.

心配ない。

You are going to be masters of this very soon.

Let's get to it.

So let's review changing from active voice to passive voice.

それでは、能動態から受動態への変更を見直してみましょう。

So here, “The child is opening the door.”

ここで、「子供がドアを開けています。」

We learned, from before, that active voices, they follow the subject verb object pattern.

以前から、能動態は主語動詞目的語パターンに従うことを学びました。

Here our subject, or the doer, is ‘the child’.

ここで私たちの主体、つまり行為者は「子供」です。

But what is the child doing?

しかし、その子は何をしているのでしょうか？

“The child is opening ...”

「子供は開いています...」

Here we have ‘ing’ attached to our verb, ‘open’, which makes ‘opening’.

ここでは動詞「open」に「ing」が付いており、「開く」という意味になります。

This is present continuous which means that the child is opening the door right now.

これは現在進行形であり、子供が今ドアを開けていることを意味します。

At this moment.

この瞬間。

And of course the receiver is ‘the door’.

そして受信機はもちろん「ドア」です。

Now, when we're switching over to passive voice, we learned from before, that our doer

さて、受動態に切り替えるときは、実行者

and our receiver swap places.

と受信者の位置が入れ替わることを以前から学びました。

So like in our sentence here, our doer and receiver are now in two different spots.

したがって、ここの文のように、実行者と受信者は 2 つの異なる場所にいます。

So ‘the door’ is now in the beginning of the sentence.

したがって、「ドア」が文の先頭に来ています。

And ‘the child’ is at the end.

そして最後に「子供」が登場します。

“The door is being opened by the child.”

「ドアは子供によって開けられています。」

‘The door’, still our receiver, is being opened.

私たちの受信機である「扉」は開かれ続けています。

hmm, so now our verb has changed a little bit.

うーん、動詞が少し変わりましたね。

Our action has changed.

私たちの行動は変わりました。

So we still have ‘is’.

つまり、まだ「is」が残っています。

And we have ‘being’, so we have our “to be” verb

そして、「being」があるので、「to be」動詞があります

but we must continue our present continuous and bring down the ‘ing’.

が、現在進行形を続けて「ing」を下げなければなりません。

So, “… is being…” and we have our past participle ‘opened’.

つまり、「… is being…」となり、過去分詞が「開かれた」ことになります。

“… is being opened by the child.”

「…子供が開けています。」

And here we have our preposition with the doer.

そしてここに行為者を伴う前置詞があります。

And sometimes the doer is left out of sentences.

そして、実行者が文章から除外されることもあります。

And that's okay as long as we know that the door is being opened.

そして、ドアが開かれていることがわかっている限り、それは問題ありません。

Now, let's practice and learn about some more tenses.

それでは、さらにいくつかの時制について練習して学びましょう。

Let's practice going from active voice to passive voice using different tenses.

Let's do it.

Let's go ahead and practice some of these tenses together starting with the present simple.

先に進んで、単純現在形から始めて、これらの時制のいくつかを一緒に練習してみましょう。

“The teacher helps the student.”

「先生は生徒を助けます。」

So we know that this is an active voice.

したがって、これが能動的な声であることがわかります。

And now we're going to change it into passive voice.

そして今度はそれを受動態に変更してみます。

“The student is helped by the teacher.”

「生徒は先生に助けられています。」

And ‘is’ is our “to be” verb.

そして「is」は「to be」動詞です。

And the past participle would be ‘helped’.

過去分詞は「助けられた」になります。

Let's look at present continuous.

現在進行形を見てみましょう。

“The teacher is helping the student.”

「先生は生徒を助けています。」

Oh there's that ‘ing’ again.

ああ、またその「ing」があります。

And we'll switch that over to, “The student is being …”

そして、それを「学生は…である」に切り替えます。

ah and there's the present continuous back with us and our “to be” verb.

ああ、現在進行形の後ろと「to be」動詞があります。

‘helped’ there is our past participle.

「助けた」という過去分詞があります。

“… by the teacher.”

「…先生から。」

Present perfect.

現在完了。

“The teacher has helped the student.”

「先生は生徒を助けました。」

“The student has been helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生に助けられました。」

Past simple.

過去のシンプル。

“The teacher helped the student.”

「先生は生徒を助けました。」

“The student was helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生に助けられました。」

Past continuous.

過去連続。

“The teacher was helping the student.”

「先生は生徒を手伝っていました。」

“The student was being helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生に助けられていました。」

Okay, so past perfect.

さて、過去完了です。

“The teacher had helped the student.”

「先生は生徒を助けました。」

“The student had been helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生に助けられました。」

Future simple.

未来はシンプル。

“The teacher will help the student.”

「先生は生徒を助けます。」

“The student will be helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生が手伝ってくれるでしょう。」

Future continuous.

今後も継続中。

“The teacher will be helping the student.”

「先生はその生徒を手伝ってくれるでしょう。」

“The student will be being helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生が手伝ってくれるでしょう。」

And everyone just remember that this tense is normally not used with the passive voice.

そして、この時制は通常、受動態では使用されないことを皆さんも覚えておいてください。

Future perfect.

完璧な未来。

“The teacher will have helped the student.”

「先生はその生徒を助けたでしょう。」

“The student will have been helped by the teacher.”

「その生徒は先生に助けられたでしょう。」
