Active and Passive Voice in Different English Tenses with Examples | Learn English Grammar

Today, we're going to learn about active and passive voice in English with different tenses.

오늘은 영어 시제에 따라 능동태와 수동태에 대해 배워보겠습니다.

Now, I know many of you know how to use the active voice but switching it to the passive

자, 많은 분들이 능동태 사용법을 알고 계시지만 수동태로 전환하는 것은

voice can be somewhat confusing.

다소 혼란스러울 수 있습니다.

And then now, we're going to use different tenses as well.

그리고 이제 우리는 다른 시제도 사용할 것입니다.

Past tense, present tense and future tense.

과거 시제, 현재 시제, 미래 시제입니다.

Oh my gosh.

이런.

What are we gonna do?

우리는 무엇을 할 것인가?

Let's get to it.

시작해 봅시다.

So let's review changing from active voice to passive voice.

그럼 능동태에서 수동태로의 변화를 검토해 보겠습니다.

So here, “The child is opening the door.”

그래서 여기서는 "아이가 문을 열고 있습니다."

We learned, from before, that active voices, they follow the subject verb object pattern.

우리는 이전부터 능동태가 주어 동사 목적어 패턴을 따른다는 것을 배웠습니다.

Here our subject, or the doer, is ‘the child’.

여기서 우리의 주체, 즉 행위자는 '아이'입니다.

But what is the child doing?

그런데 그 아이는 무엇을 하고 있나요?

“The child is opening ...”

“The child is opening ...”

Here we have ‘ing’ attached to our verb, ‘open’, which makes ‘opening’.

여기서는 동사 'open'에 'ing'을 붙여서 'opening'을 만듭니다.

This is present continuous which means that the child is opening the door right now.

현재진행형은 아이가 지금 문을 열고 있다는 뜻입니다.

At this moment.

지금이 순간.

And of course the receiver is ‘the door’.

그리고 당연히 수신자는 '문'이다.

Now, when we're switching over to passive voice, we learned from before, that our doer

이제 수동태로 전환할 때 우리는 행위자

and our receiver swap places.

와 수신자가 자리를 바꾸는 것을 이전에서 배웠습니다.

So like in our sentence here, our doer and receiver are now in two different spots.

여기 문장처럼 행위자와 수신자는 이제 서로 다른 두 지점에 있습니다.

So ‘the door’ is now in the beginning of the sentence.

그래서 'the door'는 이제 문장의 시작 부분에 있습니다.

And ‘the child’ is at the end.

그리고 그 끝에는 '아이'가 있다.

“The door is being opened by the child.”

"아이가 문을 열고 있어요."

‘The door’, still our receiver, is being opened.

여전히 우리의 수신기인 '문'이 열리고 있습니다.

hmm, so now our verb has changed a little bit.

흠, 이제 동사가 조금 바뀌었습니다.

Our action has changed.

우리의 행동이 바뀌었습니다.

So we still have ‘is’.

그래서 우리는 여전히 'is'를 가지고 있습니다.

And we have ‘being’, so we have our “to be” verb

그리고 'being'이 있으므로 'to be' 동사가 있지만

but we must continue our present continuous and bring down the ‘ing’.

현재 진행형을 계속 유지하고 'ing'을 줄여야 합니다.

So, “… is being…” and we have our past participle ‘opened’.

그래서 “… is being…”이고 과거분사는 'opened'입니다.

“… is being opened by the child.”

“... 아이가 열고 있어요.”

And here we have our preposition with the doer.

그리고 여기에 행위자(doer)에 대한 전치사가 있습니다.

And sometimes the doer is left out of sentences.

그리고 때로는 행위자가 문장에서 제외되기도 합니다.

And that's okay as long as we know that the door is being opened.

그리고 문이 열려 있다는 것을 우리가 알고 있는 한 괜찮습니다.

Now, let's practice and learn about some more tenses.

이제 좀 더 시제에 대해 연습하고 배워보겠습니다.

Let's practice going from active voice to passive voice using different tenses.

다양한 시제를 사용하여 능동태에서 수동태로 바꾸는 연습을 해보세요.

Let's do it.

해보자.

Let's go ahead and practice some of these tenses together starting with the present simple.

현재 단순부터 시작하여 이러한 시제 중 일부를 함께 연습해 봅시다.

“The teacher helps the student.”

“선생님은 학생을 도와주세요.”

So we know that this is an active voice.

그래서 우리는 이것이 능동태라는 것을 압니다.

And now we're going to change it into passive voice.

이제 수동태로 바꿔보겠습니다.

“The student is helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받습니다.”

And ‘is’ is our “to be” verb.

그리고 'is'는 'to be' 동사입니다.

And the past participle would be ‘helped’.

그리고 과거분사는 'helped'가 될 것입니다.

Let's look at present continuous.

현재진행형을 살펴보겠습니다.

“The teacher is helping the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 돕고 있어요.”

Oh there's that ‘ing’ again.

아 또 'ing'이 있군요.

And we'll switch that over to, “The student is being …”

그리고 우리는 그것을 "The Student is being…"으로 바꾸겠습니다.

ah and there's the present continuous back with us and our “to be” verb.

그리고 거기에는 현재진행형과 "to be" 동사가 있습니다.

‘helped’ there is our past participle.

'helped'에는 과거분사가 있습니다.

“… by the teacher.”

“…선생님이요.”

Present perfect.

현재 완벽합니다.

“The teacher has helped the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 도와주셨어요.”

“The student has been helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받았습니다.”

Past simple.

단순과거.

“The teacher helped the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 도와주셨어요.”

“The student was helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받았습니다.”

Past continuous.

과거 연속.

“The teacher was helping the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 돕고 있었어요.”

“The student was being helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받고 있었습니다.”

Okay, so past perfect.

좋아요, 과거 완료형이군요.

“The teacher had helped the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 도와주셨어요.”

“The student had been helped by the teacher.”

“그 학생은 선생님의 도움을 받았습니다.”

Future simple.

미래 단순.

“The teacher will help the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 도와줄 거예요.”

“The student will be helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받을 것입니다.”

Future continuous.

미래 연속.

“The teacher will be helping the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 도와줄 거예요.”

“The student will be being helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받을 것입니다.”

And everyone just remember that this tense is normally not used with the passive voice.

그리고 모두들 이 시제가 일반적으로 수동태와 함께 사용되지 않는다는 것을 기억하세요.

Future perfect.

미래 완벽.

“The teacher will have helped the student.”

“선생님이 학생을 도와주셨을 거예요.”

“The student will have been helped by the teacher.”

“학생은 선생님의 도움을 받았을 거예요.”
