Let's take a look at the homework. It says fix my five sentences. 

숙제를 살펴 보겠습니다. 다섯 문장을 고쳐달라는 거예요.

I have five sentences here. What's the problem? 

여기에는 다섯 개의 문장이 있습니다. 뭐가 문제 야?

They're missing a word. What word are they missing? 

그들은 한 마디도 놓치고 있습니다. 어떤 단어가 빠졌나요?

They're missing a preposition. 

전치사가 빠졌네요.

All right, and you can see the preposition  will come before ‘which’ in each sentence. 

좋습니다. 각 문장에서 'which' 앞에 전치사가 오는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

So you have to fix the prepositional  phrase using ‘which’ in each sentence. 

그래서 각 문장에서 'which'를 사용하여 전치사구를 고쳐야 합니다.

All right that's your homework and some… some  of you are thinking, Robin, how do I know

which preposition to put before ‘which’? Well that's what this lesson is about.

I’m going to teach you uh the basics. I’m not going to go into an advanced level.

We're just going to keep it as basic because  it's a little new a little tricky grammar here.

So I’m just going to go slow and  look at look at it at a basic level.

So that's your homework and I am  going to help you out a little more.

These are the prepositions  you need for your homework. 

숙제에 필요한 전치사입니다.

at, in, from, to, of. Now, the order here, and the order here,  

에, 에, 에서, 까지. 자, 여기의 순서와 여기의 순서는

it's different, so you've got to figure  out which… which one of these will have at,

in, from, to, of all. Right, so I’m helping

All right, let's get into the lesson. Now the prepositional phrases using ‘which’  

좋아, 수업에 들어가자. 이제 'which'를 사용하는 전치사구는

but again this is just a basic, basic video. We're not going to go too much into it. 

만, 역시 기본, 기본 영상입니다. 우리는 그것에 대해 너무 많이 다루지 않을 것입니다.

So what it says here, you need to  know prepositions and collocation. 

그래서 여기서 말하는 것은 전치사와 배열을 알아야 한다는 것입니다.

There are many other prepositions that can be  paired with which, under, during, about, over,  

under, while, about, over 등과 짝을 이룰 수 있는 다른 전치사가 많이 있으므로

etc., so going back here, I gave for the homework. I gave common prepositions. 

여기로 돌아가서 숙제를 했습니다. 나는 일반적인 전치사를 주었다.

I think everyone knows these  prepositions at, in, from, to, of. 

나는 모두가 이 전치사 at, in, from, to, of를 알고 있다고 생각합니다.

That's why I chose kind of easier  prepositions for the homework. 

그래서 숙제로 좀 더 쉬운 전치사를 선택했어요.

But keep in mind, that we can make ‘under which’,  ‘during which’, ‘about which’, ‘over which’. 

하지만 'under which', 'while which', 'about which', 'over which'를 만들 수 있다는 점을 명심하세요.

There's a lot of prepositions we can use before  ‘which’, so it helps to know prepositions. 

which 앞에 쓸 수 있는 전치사가 많기 때문에 전치사를 알아두면 도움이 됩니다.

If you don't know many prepositions,  you're going to have a difficult time  

모르는 전치사가 많으면

using this sentence structure. But again, I think  everyone is familiar with these prepositions. 

이 문장 구조를 사용하는데 어려움을 겪게 될 것입니다. 하지만 다시 말하지만, 이 전치사들은 모두가 잘 알고 있을 것 같아요.

The other issue is collocation. Collocation - this is where we get paired. 

또 다른 문제는 배치입니다. Collocation – 이곳이 우리가 짝을 이루는 곳입니다.

Collocation means we have a word  that often goes with another word. 

배열은 종종 다른 단어와 함께 사용되는 단어가 있다는 것을 의미합니다.

So they're often paired. They go together. 

그래서 짝을 이루는 경우가 많습니다. 그들은 함께 간다.

So for example, in English, native  speakers will say, “I wash the dishes.” 

예를 들어, 영어로 원어민들은 “나는 설거지를 해요.”라고 말할 것입니다.

So ‘wash dishes’ are often  paired. That's collocation. 

그래서 '설거지'는 짝을 이루는 경우가 많습니다. 그것이 바로 코로케이션입니다.

Native speakers, …I I can say, “I clean the  dishes,” that makes grammatical… grammatical sense  

원어민, ...II는 "I clean the dessert"라고 말할 수 있는데, 이는 문법적으로는… 문법적으로는 이해가 되지만

but native speakers usually don't  say ‘clean the dishes’, we usually  

원어민은 보통 'clean the dessert'라고 말하지 않고, 우리는 보통

say ‘wash the dishes’. That's collocation. 

'wash the dessert'라고 말합니다. 그것이 바로 코로케이션입니다.

So you want to sound like a  native speaker use collocation. 

따라서 원어민이 배열을 사용하는 것처럼 들리기를 원합니다.

So with the with the sentences, we're going to  talk about in a moment, I’m going to show you  

그래서 문장과 함께 우리는 잠시 후에 이야기할 것입니다. 예를 보여드리겠습니다

examples. Collocation is very important. You have to know, oh,  

. 배열은 매우 중요합니다. 아,

which preposition goes with this word. And let's take a look at the first sentence. 

이 단어와 어떤 전치사가 어울리는지 알아야 합니다 . 그리고 첫 번째 문장을 살펴보겠습니다.

So I have a sentence here. Let's take a look. 

그래서 여기에 한 문장이 있습니다. 한 번 보자.

We were in a dire situation. I have ‘dire’ here. 

우리는 심각한 상황에 처해 있었습니다. 여기에 '심각'이 있습니다.

I’m just going to quickly explain that dire means. very very very bad situation. 

그 무서운 의미를 빠르게 설명하겠습니다. 매우 매우 매우 나쁜 상황입니다.

We were in a very bad situation.  = We were in a dire situation. 

우리는 매우 나쁜 상황에 처해 있었습니다. = 우리는 심각한 상황에 처해 있었습니다.

And if you look at the… the purple  part now, this is the collocation. 

그리고 지금 보라색 부분을 보시면 이게 바로 코디에요.

I know when I’m talking about a good situation  or a bad situation I know we're always going to  

나는 좋은 상황이나 나쁜 상황에 대해 말할 때 우리가 항상 이

use this preposition ‘in’. You're “in a situation.” 

전치사 'in'을 사용할 것이라는 것을 압니다. 당신은 "상황"에 처해 있습니다.

You're not “on a situation.” You're not “at a situation.” 

당신은 "상황"에 있지 않습니다. 당신은 "상황"에 있지 않습니다.

I know it's always going to be in a situation. So with that knowledge, I can create this  

나는 그것이 항상 상황에 처할 것이라는 것을 알고 있습니다.

sentence which means the same thing but  we're using our uh prepositional phrase with  

그래서 그 지식을 바탕으로 같은 의미의 이 문장을 만들 수

which, so I know the situation in  which we found ourselves was dire. 

있지만 우리는 uh 전치사구를 사용하고 있으므로 우리가 처한 상황이 끔찍하다는 것을 압니다.

All right so I know this preposition will be  ‘in’ because… because of the word situation.

Yes, yes, that's how we make the sentence. That's you have to know this collocation to  

예, 예, 그것이 바로 우리가 문장을 만드는 방법입니다. 즉, 이 전치사가 'in'이라는 것을 알기 위해서는 이 배열을 알아야 한다는 것입니다

know that this preposition is ‘in’. Let's look at the next one.

He spoke of politics that day. So speak, past tense, spoke. 

그는 그날 정치에 관해 말했다. 그러니 과거형으로 말해보세요.

Spoke of a topic. This topic is politics. 

주제에 대해 이야기했습니다. 이번 주제는 정치입니다.

Now there are two prepositions we could use,  ‘spoke of’ and the other one is ‘spoke about’. 

이제 우리가 사용할 수 있는 두 가지 전치사가 있습니다. 'spoke of'이고 다른 하나는 'spoke about'입니다.

You speak about a topic so there's two. I chose ‘of’. Why? Because it's my video  

하나의 주제에 대해 이야기하므로 두 가지가 있습니다. 저는 '~'을 선택했어요. 왜? 왜냐하면 제 영상

and you have to follow the… the… the  prepositions I want to work with. 

이고 제가 작업하고 싶은 전치사를 따라야 하니까요.

He spoke of politics that day. So I know when we have a topic,  

그는 그날 정치에 관해 말했다. 그래서 저는 우리에게 주제가 생기면

we're going to ‘speak of’. I know the preposition is ‘of’. 

'말할' 것이라는 것을 압니다. 나는 전치사가 'of'라는 것을 알고 있습니다.

So when I’m creating the ‘which’ sentence here,  the topic of which he spoke was politics, so I  

그래서 여기서 ' which' 문장을 만들 때 그가 말한 주제는 정치였으므로 나는

know right away it's ‘of’. Can I say, “The topic  

그것이 'of'라는 것을 바로 알 수 있습니다. “ 그가 말한

about which he spoke was politics? Yes, you can. 

주제가 정치였습니까?”라고 말할 수 있습니까 ? 그래 넌 할수있어.

There's two prepositions when you have a  topic so I could say the topic of which,  

주제가 있을 때 두 가지 전치사가 있으므로 저는 어떤 주제에 대해 말할 수 있고,

I could say the topic about which. Both are okay.

어떤 주제에 대해 말할 수 있습니다. 둘 다 괜찮습니다.

Where do you speak? Again, ‘speak’, past tense, spoke. 

어디서 말하나요? 이번에도 '말하다'는 과거형이 말했습니다.

I spoke at a noisy party. Okay now it's no longer a  

나는 시끄러운 파티에서 연설했다. 좋아요, 이제 더 이상 주제가 아닙니다

topic, uh, we're focusing on the location. Where did you speak at a noisy party and  

. 어, 우리는 위치에 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 시끄러운 파티에서 어디에서 연설하셨나요?

I know in English when we're talking about a  location, we always use the preposition ‘at’. 

영어로 장소에 관해 이야기할 때 우리는 항상 전치사 'at'을 사용한다는 것을 알고 있습니다.

Sometimes we use ‘in’ for inside a building but  or inside a classroom but in this case most…  

때로는 건물 내부나 교실 내부에 'in'을 사용하지만 이 경우에는 대부분… 대부분의

most locations are gonna be ‘in’. I’m losing my voice so I spoke at 

위치가 'in'입니다. 목소리를 잃어가고 있어서 연설을 했습니다.

I spoke at a convention I spoke at a school. I spoke at um  

대회에서 연설했습니다. 학교에서 연설했습니다. 나는 음

the conference or something like that. So I spoke at a noisy party. 

회의에서 그런 말을 했습니다. 그래서 시끄러운 파티에서 연설을 했습니다.

So I know that that preposition is going to go  with the location so the party at which I spoke  

그래서 저는 그 전치사가 그 장소와 어울릴 것이라는 것을 압니다. 그래서 제가 연설했던 파티는

was noisy. I know it's going to be ‘at’. 

시끄러웠습니다. 나는 그것이 '에'일 것이라는 것을 알고 있습니다.

We drove to a town 50 kilometers away. drove to drive, past tense, drove. 

우리는 50km 떨어진 마을로 운전했습니다. 운전하다, 과거형, 운전하다.

You go to you, move to you,  travel to you, drive to.

I know it's the preposition ‘to’. We drove to a town 50 kilometers away.

The town to which we drove was 50 kilometers away. I know it's gonna be ‘to’ because we ‘drive to’. 

우리가 운전해 간 마을은 50km 떨어져 있었습니다. 우리는 'drive to'이기 때문에 'to'가 될 것이라는 것을 압니다.

And the last example here. A little more difficult. 

그리고 여기에 마지막 예가 있습니다. 조금 더 어렵습니다.

We broke free from the tight chains. So you gotta imagine chains or rope  

우리는 꽉 묶인 사슬에서 벗어났습니다. 그래서 당신은

tying you together. And you're trapped. 

당신을 묶는 사슬이나 밧줄을 상상해야합니다. 그리고 당신은 갇혀있습니다.

And then in English, we say you break free the  tight chains, um, so I know that… that's the com

the preposition here is going to be ‘from’. We break free from.

Uh, you, we could break maybe I’m working  a nine to five job and I’m very sad,

I can break free from that lifestyle, but it's  always ‘break free from’, so I know it's ‘from’.

So the chains from which  we broke free we're tight.

All right. So

I’m going to talk about commas now. Here, I like commas you know from other videos.

So normally I… I… I like to put  commas here and here because ‘the  

상황이 심각했다'가 본문이기 때문에 여기저기 쉼표를 찍는 걸 좋아해요

situation was dire’ is the main sentence. And we're adding some extra information  

. 그리고 우리는 몇 가지 추가 정보를 추가

but with uh phrasal or prepositional  phrases using which no commas. 

하지만 쉼표 없이 어구나 전치사구를 사용합니다.

That's the rule. We don't put commas if you have ‘in which’. 

그것이 규칙입니다. 'in which'가 있는 경우에는 쉼표를 넣지 않습니다.

No commas. I prefer commas, but the rule  

쉼표가 없습니다. 저는 쉼표를 더 좋아하지만 규칙은

is no commas so I’m going to teach the rule. I’m going to follow the rule - no commas. 

쉼표가 아니기 때문에 규칙을 가르쳐 드리겠습니다. 나는 규칙을 따를 것입니다 - 쉼표는 없습니다.

If we have, uh, sentences using just  ‘which’, we're going to use commas,  

어, 'which'만 사용하는 문장이 있는 경우 쉼표를 사용하게 됩니다.

but this video is not talking about just  ‘which’, we're talking about preposition which  

하지만 이 영상은 'which'에 대해서만 이야기하는 것이 아니라

these prepositional phrases - no commas. So each sentence here, I did not put a comma. 

이 전치사구가 쉼표 없이 사용되는 전치사에 대해 이야기하고 있는 것입니다 .

And you might be thinking, well you know I  understand this sentence Robin and this sentence  

그래서 여기의 각 문장에는 쉼표를 넣지 않았습니다. 그리고 여러분은 '나는 로빈이라는 문장을 이해하지만 이 문장은

is a little bit difficult for me to make myself. I understand that as I told you earlier  

나 스스로 만들기가 조금 어렵다'고 생각할 수도 있습니다 . 앞서 말씀드린 것처럼

this is a basic video so the  homework is a little bit easier. 

기초 영상이라 숙제가 조금 더 수월한 것으로 알고 있습니다.

All you have to do with this  homework is add the prepositions. 

이 숙제에서 해야 할 일은 전치사를 추가하는 것 뿐입니다.

So you got to think about what's  happening, add the prepositions here, and  

그러니 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 생각해보고 여기에 전치사를 추가하고
