I'm so excited to be teaching you the present continuous tense in this video.

This tense is used to describe: an action that's happening right now,

この時制は 、現在起こっている

a longer action in progress , and something happening in the near future.

行動、進行中のより長い行動 、近い将来に起こる何かを説明するために使用されます。

There's a lot to learn, but don't worry I'll guide you through it.

Let's get started.

始めましょう。

The present continuous tense is used to talk about actions that are happening right now.

現在進行形は、今起こっている行動について話すときに使われます。

For example,

たとえば、

‘I'm teaching English’ and ‘You are studying English.’

「私は英語を教えています」と 「あなたは英語を勉強しています」

Let's take a look at some more examples.

などです。さらにいくつかの例を見てみましょう。

The first sentence says, ‘He is watching a movie’.

最初の文は「彼は映画を見ています」です。

We start with the subject and a ‘be’ verb.

主語と「be」動詞から始めます。

In this case, the subject is ‘he’.

この場合、主語は「彼」です。

For ‘he’ / ‘she’ and ‘it’, we use the ‘be’ verb ‘is’.

「彼」/「彼女」および「それ」については、「be」動詞「is」を使用します。

Then you'll notice I added an ‘-ing’ to the end of the verb ‘watch’.

次に、動詞「watch」の末尾に「-ing」を追加したことに気付くでしょう。

‘He is watching a movie.’

The next sentence says, ‘Tim is playing a computer game.’

」 次の文は、 「ティムはコンピューター ゲームをしています。

He's doing that right now.

彼は今それをやっています。」

Tim is a ‘he’, therefore, again we use the ‘be’ verb ‘is’.

ティムは「彼」なので、ここでも「be」動詞「is」を使用します。

And again you'll notice I added ‘-ing’ to the end of the verb.

また、動詞の末尾に「-ing」を追加したことに気付くでしょう。

The next sentence says,

次の文は、

‘The machine is making a noise.’

「機械が音を立てています」と言っています。

Now pay attention to the subject, ‘the machine’.

今度は、「機械」という主語に注意してください。

What is the proper pronoun?

適切な代名詞は何ですか.

The answer is ‘it’, therefore we use the ‘be’ verb ‘is’.

答えは「それ」なので、「be」動詞「is」を使います。

‘The machine is making a noise.’

「機械が音を立てています。

We can also say, ‘It is making a noise’. Or the contraction, ‘It's making a noise’.

」「それは音を立てています」とも言えます。 または、収縮、「それは音を立てています」。

And finally, ‘Tom and Ben are speaking English’.

そして最後に、「トムとベンは英語を話している」。

In this case, you'll notice that we use the ‘be’ verb ‘are’.

Can you figure out why?

理由がわかりますか？

That's because Tom and Ben - the subject pronoun for these two is ‘they’.

それは、Tom と Ben - この 2 つの主語代名詞が「they」だからです。

‘They are speaking English.’

Let's move on to the next usage.

次の用法に移りましょう。

The present continuous tense is also used to describe a longer action in progress.

現在継続時制は 、進行中のより長いアクションを記述するためにも使用されます。

Even though you might not be doing the action right now.

あなたは今その行動をしていないかもしれませんが。

Let's take a look at some examples.

いくつかの例を見てみましょう。

The first sentence says,

最初の文は、

‘I'm reading an interesting book these days.’

「私は最近面白い本を読んでいます」と言います

In this case, the subject is ‘I’, so the ‘be’ verb is ‘am’.

In this example, we use the contraction ‘I'm’ by putting ‘I’ and ‘am’ together.

この例では、「I」と「am」を組み合わせて「I'm」という短縮形を使用しています。

Again, you'll notice there's an ‘-ing’ after the verb.

The next sentence says,

‘You are studying to become an English teacher.’

The subject here is ‘you’,

therefore the ‘be’ verb is ‘are’.

なので、「be」動詞は「are」です。

Next, ‘Steven is preparing for the IELTS exam.’

次に、「スティーブンは IELTS 試験の準備をしています。」

The subject here is ‘Steven’ which is a ‘he’,

ここでの主語は「スティーブン」で、これは「彼」である

therefore we use the ‘be’ verb ‘is’.

ため、「be」動詞「is」を使用します。

And finally, ‘John and June are working at a company.’

最後に、 「ジョンとジューンは会社で働いてい

If you look at the subject ‘John and June’, the pronoun for that is ‘they’.

That's why we use the ‘be’ verb ‘are’.

‘They are working at a company.’

Let's move on to the next usage.

The present continuous is also used to talk about near future plans.

現在進行形は、近い将来の計画について話すときにも使用されます。

Let's take a look.

見てみましょう。

‘She is meeting some friends tonight.’

「彼女は今夜何人かの友達に会う予定です。」

That's going to happen in the near future.

それは近い将来に起こるでしょう。

You'll notice that we have 'she', so the ‘be’ verb is ‘is’.

「she」があることに気付くと思いますが、「be」 動詞は「is」です。

And then we added an ‘-ing’ to the end of the verb ‘meet’.

そして、動詞「meet」の末尾に「-ing」を追加しました 。

The next example says, ‘We are going on vacation in July.’

次の例は、 「私たちは 7 月に休暇に行く予定です」と言っています。

The subject here is ‘we’, therefore we use the ‘be’ verb ‘are’.

ここでの主語は「私たち」なので 、「be」動詞「are」を使用します。

We can also use a contraction and say, ‘We're going on vacation in July.’

短縮形を使って、 「7 月に休暇に行く予定です」と言うことができます。

Again, another near future plan.

これも近い将来の計画です。

The next example says,

次の例は、

‘David is learning to drive tomorrow.’

「デビッドは明日運転することを学んでいます。」

‘tomorrow’ is the near future.

「明日」は近い将来です。

‘David’ is the subject.

「ダビデ」が主語です。

‘David’ is a ‘he’, so we use ‘is’.

「David」は「彼」なので、「is」を使います。

And lastly, ‘Vicki and I are teaching English next week.’

そして最後に、 「ヴィッキーと私は来週英語を教えています。」

‘Vicky and I’… If we think about the subject pronoun is ‘we’.

「ヴィッキーと私」 …主語の代名詞について考えてみると、「私たち」です。

That's why we used ‘are’. ‘We are teaching.’

そのため、「are」を使用しました。 「私たちは教えています。」先に

Let's move on.

Now let's talk about the negative form of the present continuous tense.

それでは、現在継続時制の否定形について話しましょう。

I have some examples here.

These two examples are for actions that are happening right now, or longer actions.

これらの 2 つの例は、 現在行われているアクション、またはより長いアクションの場合です。

These last two are for near future plans.

Let's take a look.

The first sentence says, ‘I am not having fun.’

Now that's not true for me because I am having fun,

but in this example I am not having fun.

が、この例では私は楽しんでいません。

You'll notice that the word ‘not’ goes between the ‘be’ verb and the ‘verb -ing’.

「not」という単語が「be」動詞と「動詞 -ing」の間にあることに気付くでしょう。

In the second example it says, ‘Jane isn't doing her homework.’

Here we use the contraction ‘isn't’ for ‘is not’,

so just like the first sentence, we put ‘not’ between ‘is’ and ‘verb -ing’.

Here we have a contraction for ‘you are’.

Here we have the subject ‘we’, therefore, we use the ‘be’ verb ‘are’.

Don’t forget to add a ‘not’ after that to make it negative.

その後に「not」 を付けて否定形にすることを忘れないでください。

Let's move on.

Now let's talk about how to form ‘be’ verb questions in the present continuous tense.

それでは、現在進行形で「be」動詞の質問を形成する方法について話しましょう。

The first example here says,

ここでの最初の例は、

‘Is he waiting for you?’

「彼はあなたを待っていますか?」

or ‘Is he waiting for you?’

または「彼はあなたを待っていますか?

We start with the ‘be’ verb.

Take a look at the subject though.

The subject is ‘he’ and that's why we start with the ‘be’ verb ‘is’.

‘Is he waiting for you?’

You can answer, ‘Yes, he is.’ or ‘No he isn't.’

The second sentence says,

The subject here is ‘you’ and that's why we start with ‘are’.

You can answer, ‘Yes I am.’ or ‘No, I'm not.’

The next question says, ‘Is he preparing to study in Canada?’

次の質問は、「 彼はカナダで勉強する準備をしていますか?」

The subject is ‘he’, and so we start with ‘is’.

The answer can be, ‘Yes, he is.’ or it can also be ‘No, he isn't.’

Finally the last question says, ‘Are they going out tonight?’

The subject here is ‘they’, and so we start with ‘are’.

The answer can be ‘Yes, they are.’ or ‘No, they aren't.’

Let's move on.

Now let's talk about the WH question form for the present continuous tense.

それでは、現在進行形の WH 疑問形について話しましょう。

and you'll notice that we start with the WH questions:

what, where, when, who, why, and how.

何を、どこで、いつ、誰が、なぜ、どのように.

What comes after?

後は何ですか？

You'll notice it's the ‘be’ verbs: ‘are’, ‘is’, and if the subject is ‘I’, ‘am’.

「be」動詞であることがわかります。「are」、 「is」、主語が「I」の場合は「am」です。

So after that you have the subject and then the verb -ing.

その後、主語と動詞 -ing が続きます 。

Let's take a look at the first sentence.

最初の文を見てみましょう。

‘What are you doing?’

「何をしているの？」

I'm asking about right now.

今のことを聞いています。

For example, ‘I'm teaching English.’

たとえば、「私は英語を教えています。」「

‘Where are you going?’ ‘I'm going to the store.’

どこに行くのですか?」「 私は店に行きます。」「

‘When is it starting?’ ‘It's starting at 3.’

いつから始まりますか?」「3時からです。」

I can be talking about a movie a show anything can be ‘it’.

映画について話すことができます。 何 でも「それ」になり得ることを示します。

‘Who is she talking to?’ ‘She's talking to Bob.’

「彼女は誰と話しているのですか?」 「彼女はボブと話しているのです」

‘Why is she crying?’ ‘She's crying because she's sad.’

And finally, ‘How is it going?’ ‘It's going well.’

そして最後に「調子はどうですか?」 「うまくいっています。」
