I'm so excited to teach you the present simple tense in today's video.

Now this lesson can be a little difficult,

Let's get started.

Let's start with the first usage for the present simple tense.

لنبدأ بالاستخدام الأول لزمن المضارع البسيط.

The first usage is pretty easy.

الاستخدام الأول سهل جدًا.

We use it to talk about facts, truths, and generalizations.

نستخدمها للحديث عن الحقائق والحقائق والتعميمات.

Let's look at some examples.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على بعض الأمثلة.

‘The Sun is bright.’

'الشمس مشرقة.'

Now that's a fact.

الآن هذه حقيقة.

It doesn't change.

لا يتغير.

Everybody knows that the Sun is bright.

يعلم الجميع أن الشمس مشرقة.

It was bright yesterday.

كان مشرقا أمس.

It's bright today.

إنه مشرق اليوم.

And it will be bright tomorrow.

وسيكون مشرقا غدا.

That makes it a fact.

وهذا يجعلها حقيقة.

‘Pigs don't fly.’

"الخنازير لا تطير."

That's also a fact.

Everybody knows that pigs don't fly.

‘Cats are better than dogs.’

Now this you may not agree with.

This is my truth.

I'm making a generalization about cats and dogs in this example.

And finally, ‘It's cold in winter.’

This really depends on where you live, but for a lot of people, or let's say for

most people, it is cold in the winter,

so that's the truth for some people.

Now let's look back and see what verb I used in the present simple tense.

For the first sentence, we have ‘is’.

بالنسبة للجملة الأولى، لدينا "هو".

I use the ‘be’ verb ‘is’ to talk about the Sun.

أستخدم الفعل "be" للحديث عن الشمس.

In the next sentence, I use the negative of do - ‘do not’

في الجملة التالية، أستخدم صيغة النفي لفعل - "لا تفعل"

And you'll notice I use the contraction and put these two words together to make it ‘don't’.

وستلاحظ أنني أستخدم الاختصار وأضع هاتين الكلمتين معًا لجعلها "لا تفعل".

‘Cats are better than dogs.’

"القطط أفضل من الكلاب."

I use the ‘be’ verb "are" to talk about cats because ‘cats’ is plural.

أستخدم الفعل "be" "هي" للحديث عن القطط لأن كلمة "cats" بصيغة الجمع.

And finally, it's cold and winter.

وأخيرا، الجو بارد وشتاء.

Here I use the ‘be’ verb "is" again,

هنا أستخدم الفعل "be" "هو" مرة أخرى،

but I use the contraction to combine ‘it’ and ‘is’

لكني أستخدم الاختصار للجمع بين "it" و"is"

and made ‘it’s’.

وأجعل "it's".

Let's move on to the next usage.

دعنا ننتقل إلى الاستخدام التالي.

We also use the present simple tense to talk about habits and routines.

نستخدم أيضًا زمن المضارع البسيط للحديث عن العادات والروتين.

So things and actions that happen regularly.

إذن الأشياء والأفعال التي تحدث بانتظام.

Let’s look at the examples.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على الأمثلة.

‘I always eat lunch at noon.’

"أنا دائما أتناول الغداء عند الظهر."

You'll notice I use the adverb ‘always’ because I'm talking about something that I do regularly.

ستلاحظ أنني أستخدم الظرف "دائمًا" لأنني أتحدث عن شيء أفعله بانتظام.

What is that?

ما هذا؟

‘Eat lunch at noon.’

"تناول الغداء عند الظهر."

So I use the present simple tense.

لذلك أستخدم زمن المضارع البسيط.

And here I use the verb ‘eat’.

وهنا أستخدم الفعل "أكل".

‘I eat…’

"أنا آكل..."

The second example says you play games every day.

المثال الثاني يقول أنك تلعب الألعاب كل يوم.

Do you see the clue that helps you know that this is something that happens regularly?

هل ترى الدليل الذي يساعدك على معرفة أن هذا شيء يحدث بانتظام؟

It's ‘every day’.

إنه "كل يوم".

So it's something that happens as a routine or a habit,

لذلك فهو شيء يحدث روتينًا أو عادة،

so you play games.

لذلك تلعب الألعاب.

The verb here is ‘play’.

الفعل هنا هو "لعب".

‘You play…’

"أنت تلعب..."

The next example says ‘Seth starts work at 9:00 a.m. daily.’

المثال التالي يقول "يبدأ Seth العمل في الساعة 9:00 صباحًا يوميًا."

Again this is something that happens regularly.

مرة أخرى، هذا شيء يحدث بانتظام.

‘Seth goes to work at 9:00 a.m.’ every day.

"يذهب سيث إلى العمل في الساعة 9:00 صباحًا" كل يوم.

Now you'll notice I put a blue line under the ‘s’ in ‘starts’.

ستلاحظ الآن أنني وضعت خطًا أزرقًا أسفل حرف "s" في "البدء".

Can you figure out why?

Well remember that when the subject of a sentence is ‘he’, ‘she’, or ‘it’,

تذكر جيدًا أنه عندما يكون الفاعل في الجملة هو "هو" أو "هي" أو "هو"،

we need to add an ‘s’ or ‘es’ to the end of the verb in the present simple tense.

نحتاج إلى إضافة "s" أو "es" إلى نهاية الفعل في زمن المضارع البسيط.

Seth is a ‘he’, so we need to add an ‘s’.

Seth هو "هو"، لذا نحتاج إلى إضافة "s".

‘Seth starts work at 9:00 a.m. daily.’

And the last example: ‘They study English every Monday.’

والمثال الأخير: "إنهم يدرسون اللغة الإنجليزية كل يوم اثنين".

Again, ‘every Monday’ means that they do it regularly,

مرة أخرى، "كل يوم اثنين" يعني أنهم يفعلون ذلك بانتظام،

and that's why we use the present simple tense.

‘They study…’.

'أنهم يدرسون…'.

So as a review, remember we use the present simple tense

لذا كمراجعة، تذكر أننا نستخدم زمن المضارع البسيط

to talk about habits and routines that happen regularly.

للحديث عن العادات والروتين الذي يحدث بانتظام.

Let's move on.

هيا لنذهب.

We also use the present simple tense with non-continuous verbs.

نستخدم أيضًا زمن المضارع البسيط مع الأفعال غير المستمرة.

These are verbs that we don't use in the continuous form,

هذه هي الأفعال التي لا نستخدمها في الصيغة المستمرة،

even if they're happening right now.

حتى لو كانت تحدث الآن.

They're also called stative verbs.

وتسمى أيضًا الأفعال الثابتة.

These are connected with thoughts, opinions, feelings, emotions, and our five senses.

وترتبط هذه بالأفكار والآراء والمشاعر والعواطف وحواسنا الخمس.

Let's look at these examples.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على هذه الأمثلة.

‘I love my mom.’

'انا احب امي.'

The verb here is ‘love’.

الفعل هنا هو "الحب".

That's an emotion, so I use the present simple tense.

هذه عاطفة، لذا أستخدم زمن المضارع البسيط.

‘It smells good.’

'انها الروائح الطيبة.'

‘Smell’ is one of the five senses, so I use the present simple tense.

"الشم" هي إحدى الحواس الخمس، لذلك أستخدم زمن المضارع البسيط.

You'll notice I underlined the ‘s’ because remember the subject is ‘it’.

ستلاحظ أنني وضعت خطًا تحت حرف 's' لأن تذكر أن الموضوع هو 'it'.

‘Kelly feels happy.’

"كيلي تشعر بالسعادة."

This is talking about a feeling.

هذا يتحدث عن الشعور.

Again the subject here is ‘Kelly’ which is a ‘she’,

مرة أخرى، الفاعل هنا هو "Kelly" وهو "هي"،

so I added an ‘s’ to the verb.

لذلك أضفت "s" إلى الفعل.

And finally, ‘They need help.’

وأخيرا، "إنهم بحاجة إلى المساعدة".

We don't say, ‘they are needing help’ even though it's happening right now.

نحن لا نقول، "إنهم بحاجة إلى المساعدة" على الرغم من أن ذلك يحدث الآن.

‘Need’ is non-continuous, so we say, ‘they need help’,

so remember you also use the present simple tense with non-continuous verbs,

connected with thoughts, opinions, feelings, emotions, and our five senses.

Let's move on.

Speakers occasionally use the present simple tense to talk about something that will happen

يستخدم المتحدثون أحيانًا زمن المضارع البسيط للحديث عن شيء سيحدث

in the near future.

في المستقبل القريب.

Now this can be a little confusing, but we're not using the future tense,

قد يكون هذا مربكًا بعض الشيء، لكننا لا نستخدم زمن المستقبل،

we're using the present simple tense.

بل نستخدم زمن المضارع البسيط.

It's possible to do that and it's actually common for people to do that.

من الممكن القيام بذلك ومن الشائع جدًا أن يفعل الناس ذلك.

Again, for something that will happen in the near future.

مرة أخرى، لشيء سيحدث في المستقبل القريب.

Let's look at the examples.

‘I have class at 6 p.m.’

"لدي درس في الساعة 6 مساءً"

‘6 p.m.’ that's pretty soon, so I can say,

"6 مساءً" هذا قريب جدًا، لذا يمكنني أن أقول،

'I have class.' - the present simple tense.

"لدي فصل." - المضارع البسيط.

‘Lisa arrives on Sunday.’

"تصل ليزا يوم الأحد."

Again the near future, ‘Sunday’.

So I use the present simple tense.

I added an ‘s’ at the end of arrive, because Lisa, the subject, is a ‘she’.

‘We start work soon.’

"نبدأ العمل قريبا."

Again, the near future, ‘soon’,

مرة أخرى، المستقبل القريب، "قريبًا"،

so I use the present simple verb ‘start’.

And finally, ‘My students come tomorrow.’

This is something that will happen in the near future,

so I use the verb ‘come’.

So remember it is possible, and it is common to use the present simple tense

لذا تذكر أنه من الممكن، ومن الشائع استخدام زمن المضارع البسيط

to talk about something that will happen in the near future.

للحديث عن شيء سيحدث في المستقبل القريب.

Let's go to the next usage.

دعنا نذهب إلى الاستخدام التالي.

Let's talk about a possible negative usage for the present simple tense,

دعونا نتحدث عن الاستخدام السلبي المحتمل للزمن المضارع البسيط،

and that is ‘do not’ and ‘does not’.

وهو "لا" و"لا".

The first example says, ‘Mike eats bread.’

يقول المثال الأول، "مايك يأكل الخبز."

I put an ‘s’ at the end of ‘eat’ because the subject is Mike which is a ‘he’.

لقد وضعت "s" في نهاية "eat" لأن الموضوع هو Mike وهو "هو".

Now that's not a negative statement.

الآن هذا ليس بيانا سلبيا.

What happens when I want to turn it into a negative statement?

ماذا يحدث عندما أريد تحويله إلى عبارة سلبية؟

Well I change it like this - ‘Mike doesn't eat bread.’

حسنًا، سأغيرها هكذا - "مايك لا يأكل الخبز".

So you'll notice that I didn't move the ‘s’ here, okay.

لذا ستلاحظ أنني لم أنقل حرف 's' هنا، حسنًا.

Instead I added ‘doesn't’.

I took ‘does’ and ‘not’ and I turned it into a contraction by combining the two

and making it ‘doesn't’.

So if the subject is ‘he’, ‘she’, or ‘it’,

we use ‘does not’ or ‘doesn't’ to make it negative.

‘You swim well.’

In this case, I don't need to put an ‘s’ at the end of ‘swim’ because the subject is ‘you’.

في هذه الحالة، لا أحتاج إلى وضع حرف 's' في نهاية كلمة 'swim' لأن الفاعل هو 'أنت'.

If I want to make this sentence negative, I use ‘don't’.

إذا أردت أن أجعل هذه الجملة منفية، أستخدم "لا تفعل".

‘You don't swim well.’

"أنت لا تسبح جيدا."

I use the contraction for ‘do’ and ‘not’.

أستخدم الاختصار لـ "do" و "not".

I combine them to make ‘don't’,

أقوم بدمجها لتكوين "لا تفعل"،

so if the subject is ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘we’, or ‘they’, we use ‘do not’ or ‘don't’.

لذلك إذا كان الموضوع هو "أنا" أو "أنت" أو "نحن" أو "هم"، فإننا نستخدم "لا" أو "لا تفعل".

So to review ‘do not’ and ‘does not’ or ‘don't’ and ‘doesn't’

لذا فإن مراجعة "لا تفعل" و"لا" أو "لا تفعل" و"لا تفعل"

is a possible usage for the negative for present simple tense.

هو استخدام محتمل للنفي في زمن المضارع البسيط.

Let's continue on.

Now I'll talk about one possible question form for the present simple tense

سأتحدث الآن عن أحد نماذج الأسئلة الممكنة في زمن المضارع البسيط

and that is by using ‘do’ or ‘does’.

وذلك باستخدام "do" أو "does".

So let's look at the example, ‘They live here.’

لذلك دعونا نلقي نظرة على المثال، "إنهم يعيشون هنا".

That's not a question, right?

هذا ليس سؤالا، أليس كذلك؟

'They live here’

"إنهم يعيشون هنا"

In order to turn it into a question, it's really simple.

لتحويل الأمر إلى سؤال، الأمر بسيط حقًا.

All I have to do is add ‘do’ to the beginning and add a question mark at the end.

كل ما علي فعله هو إضافة كلمة "do" في البداية وإضافة علامة استفهام في النهاية.

‘Do they live here?’

"هل يعيشون هنا؟"

So if the subject is ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘we’, or ‘they’,

simply add ‘do’ to the beginning of the question.

How about this one, ‘He plays soccer.’

In this statement, the subject is ‘he’ and that's why you should know by now,

I have an ‘s’ at the end of ‘play’.

However, to turn this into a question, I add ‘does’ at the beginning.

‘Does he play soccer?’

What you'll notice here is that I no longer have the ‘s’ at the end of play.

Instead I just used ‘does’ at the beginning,
