Learn Possessive Adjectives | Basic English Grammar Course

In this video, we’re going to learn about possessive adjectives.

في هذا الفيديو ، سنتعرف على الصفات التملكية.

We use possessive adjectives to show that something belongs to me,

نستخدم الصفات التملكية لإظهار أن شيئًا ما يخصني ،

or something belongs to someone else.

أو أن شيئًا ما ينتمي إلى شخص آخر.

I own something or someone owns something.

أنا أملك شيئًا ما أو شخصًا ما يمتلك شيئًا ما.

So let’s take a look at the board.

Now last time we learned about subjective pronouns

and here they are.

‘I’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’, ‘you’, ‘we’, ‘they’.

And here are the possessive adjectives.

وهنا صفات التملك.

‘My’.

'لي'.

We use ‘my’ to show that something belongs to me.

نستخدم "خاصتي" لإظهار أن شيئًا ما يخصني.

‘His’.

'له'.

This means that something belongs to one man or one boy.

هذا يعني أن شيئًا ما يخص رجل واحد أو ولد واحد.

‘Her’.

'ها'.

We use that to show something belongs to one woman or one girl.

نستخدم ذلك لإظهار شيء ما يخص امرأة أو فتاة واحدة.

‘Its’.

'إنه'.

We use ‘its’ to show that something belongs to an animal.

نستخدم "خاص به" لإظهار أن شيئًا ما ينتمي إلى حيوان.

We use ‘your’ to show that something belongs to you.

نستخدم "الخاص بك" لإظهار أن شيئًا ما يخصك.

Okay.

‘Our’.

'لنا'.

‘Our’ means that something belongs to me and you or me and somebody else.

"خاصتنا" تعني أن شيئًا ما يخصني ولك أو لي ولشخص آخر.

Okay, or me and other people.

حسنًا ، أو أنا وأشخاص آخرين.

Okay, and last.

حسنًا وأخيرًا.

We use ‘their’ to show that something belongs to many people.

نستخدم كلمة "هم" لإظهار أن شيئًا ما ينتمي إلى كثير من الناس.

Okay, not me, but many people.

حسنًا ، ليس أنا ، ولكن الكثير من الناس.

Okay, now I want you to pay attention to three special words.

حسنًا ، أريدك الآن أن تنتبه إلى ثلاث كلمات خاصة.

‘Its’, ‘your’ and ‘their’.

"لها" و "لك" و "هم".

Now I want you to notice these words sound like other words.

الآن أريدك أن تلاحظ أن هذه الكلمات تبدو وكأنها كلمات أخرى.

So you have to be careful not to get them confused.

And I’m going to explain.

وسأشرح.

‘Its’ sounds like the contraction for ‘it is’; ‘it’s’.

يبدو "إنه" وكأنه تقلص لـ "هو" ؛ 'إنه'.

Okay, so, don’t get that confused.

حسنًا ، لذلك ، لا ترتبك.

‘Your’ sounds like the contraction for ‘you are’ ‘you’re’.

So make sure you use this one to show possession.

And the last word, ‘their’, it actually sounds like two other words.

Now I know all of this sounds very hard,

Now, here I have a marker.

Okay, in this picture there’s an animal; a dog…and it has a ball.

I have to say, “This is its ball.”

“This is its ball.”

“This isn’t my ball.”

Now, in this picture, we have two people.

Okay, and they both own this house.

So, “This is their house.”

Okay, now a little bit farther away, we have three books.

And this boy and girl have the books here.

So, we have to say “those”.

And because we have more than one,

we have to use ‘are’.

Here’s the county Korea.

Okay, we all live here.

So we say, “This is our country.”

Okay, let’s move on to the next part for some more practice.

Here are some practice sentences.

Okay, this is a mouth.

What should we put?

John is one man or boy.

That’s more than one person. That’s two people.

So, “The parents love ____ baby.”

We have to put…

علينا أن نضع ...

“their”.

"هم".

“The parents love their baby.”

"الآباء يحبون طفلهم."

Okay. And here, “The dog…”

تمام. وهنا ، "الكلب ..."

Okay, ‘the dog’ is an animal.

حسنًا ، "الكلب" حيوان.

So, “The dog eats ____ food.”

لذا ، "الكلب يأكل ____ طعام".

What do we put?

ماذا نضع؟

We have to say, “its”.

علينا أن نقول ، "لها".

“The dog eats its food.”

"الكلب يأكل طعامه".

Okay, let’s look at some more examples.

Okay, we have two people, Paul, and Sam.

And the plural names.

So we have to say, “Their”.

Okay, I’m asking you.

Okay, these are the videos that we make. Right?

So, the answer is “our”.
