The perfect P and B sounds!! Perfect English Pronunciation

Something I learned recently is that for

شيء تعلمته مؤخرًا هو أنه بالنسبة

Arabic speakers the letters B and P or

للمتحدثين باللغة العربية ، يصعب تمييز الأحرف B و P أو

the sounds /b/ and /p/ are difficult to

الأصوات / b / و / p /

distinguish and produce so today I'm

وإنتاجها ، لذا سأقوم اليوم

going to explain the difference and then

بشرح الاختلاف وبعد ذلك

we're going to practice and you'll be

سنتدرب وأنت سيكون

perfect and everything's going to be great!

So this all relates to voiced sounds

إذن كل هذا يتعلق بالأصوات المسموعة

and unvoiced sounds

والأصوات غير المنفوخة

What are voiced sounds and unvoiced sounds?!

ما هي الأصوات المسموعة والأصوات غير المفوترة ؟!

I'm glad you asked

أنا سعيد لأنك سألت

"Voiced sounds" produce a vibration in the throat

"الأصوات الصوتية" تنتج اهتزازًا في الحلق ،

for example in letters or

على سبيل المثال في الحروف أو

sounds like b or /b/ so when you put

الأصوات مثل ب أو / ب / لذلك عندما تضع

your hand to your throats and say B or

يدك على حلقك وتقول ب أو

/b/ you can feel the vibration

/ ب / يمكنك أن تشعر بالاهتزاز

you can feel the vibration

يمكن أن يشعر بالاهتزاز

That means it's "voiced"

وهذا يعني أنه "صوتي"

whereas with a /p/ sound

بينما مع a / p / sound

there's no vibration this means it's "Unvoiced"

لا يوجد اهتزاز ، وهذا يعني أنه "غير مسموع"

No vibration, no nothing, it's just a puff of air from your mouth

لا اهتزاز ، لا شيء ، إنه مجرد نفخة من الهواء من فمك

So how do we distinguish this?

فكيف نميز هذا؟

For example:

These two words

هاتان الكلمتان

"Bob" has two /b/ sounds

"بوب" لهما صوتان / ب / صوتان "

Two "voiced" sounds

صوتان" صوتان "

"Pop" however has two "unvoiced" sounds

بوب" ولكن لهما صوتان "غير مسموعين"

For this practice you're going to need a piece of paper

لهذه الممارسة ، ستحتاج إلى قطعة من الورق

and hold it close to your mouth

وتثبيتها بالقرب من فمك

When you produce "voiced" sounds, you won't

عندما تصدر أصواتًا "صوتية" ،

you won't see the paper move

فلن ترى الورق يتحرك

But when you produce "Unvoiced" sounds you'll see the paper move

ولكن عندما تصدر أصواتًا "غير مسموعة" ، سترى الورقة تتحرك

Because there's no vibration in the throat

نظرًا لعدم وجود اهتزاز في الحلق ،

There's just a puff of air pushing that paper

هناك فقط نفخة من الهواء تدفع ذلك

Pushing that paper

دفع الورق

So let's begin

لذلك لنبدأ

Nothing however with "pop"

بأي شيء مع "فرقعة"

So you see with every /p/ sound, the paper moves

لذلك ترى مع كل صوت ، تتحرك الورقة

Because of that puff of air from your mouth

بسبب نفخة الهواء من فمك ،

So try it with me, put the paper to your mouth

لذا جربها معي ، ضع الورقة على فمك

and say these two words:

وقل هذه كلمتين:

Doesn't matter how loud you get

بغض النظر عن مدى ارتفاع الصوت الذي تحصل عليه ،

The paper won't move

لن تتحرك الورقة

But with "pop"

ولكن مع "فرقعة" صوتان

Two /p/ sounds

/ p /

You'll feel it move, try with me

ستشعر أنها تتحرك ، جرب معي

paper to the mouth

الورقة إلى الفم

Even if you say it quietly, it will still move

حتى لو قلت ذلك بهدوء ، لا يزال يتحرك

Okay let's try some other words

حسنًا ، دعنا نجرب بعض الكلمات الأخرى

For example:

على سبيل المثال:

"Voiced" shouldn't move

"صوت" لا يجب أن يتحرك

Nothing, great! Just a vibration no puff of air

لا شيء ، رائع! مجرد اهتزاز لا نفث الهواء

"Pull" however is that unvoiced sound

"سحب" ولكن هذا الصوت غير مسموع ،

So you'll get the puff of air moving a paper

لذا ستحصل على نفخة من الهواء تحرك ورقة

Say it with me!

قلها معي!

Okay let's try another one

حسنًا ، دعنا نجرب واحدة أخرى

"Bunch" - voiced, shouldn't move

"Bunch" - تم التعبير عنها ، لا يجب أن تتحرك

Did you do that? How about "Punch"

So when you say it with me, you should not feel the paper move

for the /b/sounding words

But the paper should move for the /p/ sounding words

So how else can we practice this?

Well we can look at tongue twisters!

حسنًا ، يمكننا أن ننظر إلى أعاصير اللسان!

Really try and enunciate

حاول حقًا أن

Pronounce those sounds properly, fully

تنطق هذه الأصوات بشكل صحيح ، تمامًا ،

You can be as loud as you want

يمكنك أن تكون مرتفعًا كما تريد

for the "voiced" you shouldn't get any movement in the paper

بالنسبة إلى "الصوت" ، فلا يجب أن تحصل على أي حركة في الورقة

for the "unvoiced", you should feel that that puff of air

and the paper should move
