The perfect P and B sounds!! Perfect English Pronunciation

Something I learned recently is that for

and unvoiced sounds

What are voiced sounds and unvoiced sounds?!

有声音と無声音について 有声音と無声音とは？

I'm glad you asked

"Voiced sounds" produce a vibration in the throat

「有声音」とは、

for example in letters or

たとえば文字や

sounds like b or /b/ so when you put

b や /b/ のような音で喉に振動を発生させるので

your hand to your throats and say B or

、喉に手を当てて B や

/b/ you can feel the vibration

/b/ と言うと、その振動を感じることができ

you can feel the vibration

ます。 振動を感じることができます。

That means it's "voiced"

これは「有声」を意味し

whereas with a /p/ sound

ますが、/p/ の音

there's no vibration this means it's "Unvoiced"

では振動がなく、これは「無声」である

No vibration, no nothing, it's just a puff of air from your mouth

So how do we distinguish this?

"Bob" has two /b/ sounds

Two "voiced" sounds

"Pop" however has two "unvoiced" sounds

"Pop" には 2 つの "無声の" 音

For this practice you're going to need a piece of paper

and hold it close to your mouth

When you produce "voiced" sounds, you won't

you won't see the paper move

紙が動くのは見えませんが

But when you produce "Unvoiced" sounds you'll see the paper move

Because there's no vibration in the throat

喉に振動がないので、それを

There's just a puff of air pushing that paper

So let's begin

Nothing however with "pop"

So you see with every /p/ sound, the paper moves

/p/ の音ごとに紙が動くのがわかり

Because of that puff of air from your mouth

So try it with me, put the paper to your mouth

and say these two words:

Doesn't matter how loud you get

The paper won't move

But with "pop"

Two /p/ sounds

2つの/p/の音

You'll feel it move, try with me

Even if you say it quietly, it will still move

Okay let's try some other words

For example:

"Voiced" shouldn't move

"Voiced" は動くべきではありません

Nothing, great! Just a vibration no puff of air

何もありません。 ただの振動 空気のパフはありません

"Pull" however is that unvoiced sound

「プル」は無声音

So you'll get the puff of air moving a paper

です だから紙を動かす空気のパフが得られます

Okay let's try another one

"Bunch" - voiced, shouldn't move

「バンチ」 声出て動かないで

Did you do that? How about "Punch"

So when you say it with me, you should not feel the paper move

for the /b/sounding words

、/b/の音の単語では

But the paper should move for the /p/ sounding words

紙が動くのを感じるべきではありませんが、/p/の音の単語では紙が動くはず

So how else can we practice this?

Well we can look at tongue twisters!

Really try and enunciate

Pronounce those sounds properly, fully

You can be as loud as you want
