Well, here in Ontario, Canada,

Well, here is our first store.

तो ये रही हमारी पहली दुकान।

The store behind me is called a grocery store.

मेरे पीछे जो दुकान है उसे "grocery store" (किराने की दुकान) कहते हैं।

Sometimes in English, we also call this a supermarket.

कभी-कभी अंग्रेज़ी में हम इसे "supermarket" भी कहते हैं।

A grocery store is the best place to go

अगर आपको खाने का सामान ख़रीदना है तो उसके लिये "grocery store" सबसे अच्छी जगह है।

if you want to buy food.

You can go to a grocery store to buy bread,

आप ब्रेड, दूध और जो चाहें वो ख़रीदने के लिये "grocery store" जा सकते हैं।

to buy milk, to buy basically anything.

You can buy bananas there.

आप वहाँ केले ख़रीद सकते हैं।

That's my favorite thing to buy at the grocery store.

"Grocery store" में मुझे केले ख़रीदना पसंद है।

The store behind me is what we call a big-box store.

मेरे पीछे जो दुकान है उसे हम "big-box store" कहते हैं।

This big-box store sells electronics.

ये "big-box store" इलैक्ट्रॉनिक्स बेचता है।

If you need a computer

अगर आपको कंप्यूटर ख़रीदना है

or if you need toner for your printer,

या अपने प्रिंटर के लिये टोनर ख़रीदना है

you can go to this big-box store.

तो आप इस "big-box store" में जा सकते हैं।

There are other types of big-box stores, though.

हालाँकि कुछ अलग तरह के "big-box store" भी होते हैं।

There are big-box stores that sell

कुछ "big-box store" कई तरह के सामान बेचते हैं

a wide variety of things,

and there are big-box stores

और कुछ "big-box store" लकड़ियाँ और औज़ार जैसे सामान बेचते हैं।

that sell things like lumber and tools.

This store is called a dollar store

इस दुकान को "dollar store" या "discount store" कहा जाता है।

or a discount store.

A long time ago, everything in a dollar store

बहुत समय पहले "dollar store" में सब कुछ सिर्फ़ एक डॉलर का हुआ करता था।

was only one dollar.

Times have change a bit, though,

हालाँकि अब समय थोड़ा बदल गया है

and things are a little bit more expensive,

but it is still a good place to go

if you want to buy things

that are very, very cheap.

If your doctor says that you need medicine,

he will write you a prescription,

and you will take it to a drugstore.

We also call this a pharmacy in Canada.

हम इसे कनाडा में "pharmacy" भी कहते हैं।

So if you need medicine or if you need drugs,

तो अगर आपको दवा चाहिये हो तो

you would go and you would get them at a drugstore

उसे आप "drugstore" या "pharmacy" जाकर लेंगे।

or at a pharmacy.

This store is called a convenience store,

इस दुकान को "convenience store" कहते हैं

or if it's on a corner, like this store is,

या अगर कोने पर हो, जैसे कि ये दुकान है,

you could call it a corner store.

तो इसे आप "corner store" कह सकते हैं।

A convenience store is a store that is open a lot,

"Convenience store" वो दुकान होती है जो अक्सर खुली रहती है।

sometimes convenience stores

कभी-कभी "convenience store"

are open 24 hours a day,

दिन के चौबीस घंटे खुले रहते हैं

and it's a place where you can go

just to grab something quick.

Maybe you want a can of pop, or a can of soda,

I think you call them crisps in the U.K.

A convenience store would be a great place

"Convenience store" बढ़िया जगह है

if you just needed a quick snack,

अगर आपको कोई फटाफट स्नैक चाहिये

or maybe you forgot to buy milk

या हो सकता है आप दूध या कुछ और "grocery store" से लेना भूल गए हों

or something else at the grocery store,

and the grocery store is closed,

और वो बंद है

you could go to a convenience store

तो आप "convenience store" पर जाकर भी

and buy those items as well,

वो सामान ख़रीद सकते हैं।

although they're usually a little more expensive.

हालाँकि "convenience store" थोड़ा ज़्यादा महँगा होता है।

The store behind me is called a hardware store.

मेरे पीछे जो दुकान है उसे "hardware store" कहते हैं।

A hardware store is a great store to go to

"Hardware store" बढ़िया दुकान है

if you need to buy tools.

अगर आपको औज़ार ख़रीदने हैं।

You can go to a hardware store

आप हथौड़ा या पाना ख़रीदने के लिये "hardware store" पर जा सकते हैं।

to buy a hammer or a wrench.

You can also go to a hardware store

आप "hardware store" पर जाकर

to buy things like bolts and nuts

नट-बोल्ट, वॉशर और स्क्रू जैसा सामान भी ख़रीद सकते हैं।

and washers and screws.

If you want to buy beer

अगर आपको बियर ख़रीदनी है

in my Province of Ontario, Canada,

यहाँ ओंटारियो, कनाडा में

you need to go to this store.

तो आपको इस दुकान पर जाना होगा।

You need to go to the beer store.

आपको "beer store" पर जाना होगा।

I think it's pretty clear what they sell here.

मुझे लगता है काफ़ी साफ़-साफ़ नज़र आ रहा है कि यहाँ क्या बिकता है।

They sell beer.

यहाँ बियर बिकती है।

Behind me, you can see a whole bunch of stores in a row,

मेरे पीछे आप बहुत सारी दुकानें कतार में लगी हुई देख सकते हैं।

and we would call this a strip mall or a plaza.

हम इसे "strip mall" या "plaza" कहेंगे।

This is different than a mall.

ये "mall" से अलग है।

In a mall, you go inside the mall,

"Mall" में आप अंदर जाते हैं

and the stores are on the inside.

और दुकानें अंदर होती हैं।

With a strip mall, the stores all have their doors

"Strip mall" में सारी दुकानों के दरवाज़े बाहर होते हैं।

on the outside.

The store behind me sells used clothing.

मेरे पीछे वाली दुकान पुराने कपड़े बेचती है।

We would call this a secondhand store,

हम इसे "secondhand store" या "thrift store" कहेंगे।

or a thrift store.

This is a place where you can go

आप यहाँ जा सकते हैं

if you don't want to buy clothes that are brand new.

अगर आपको नए कपड़े नहीं ख़रीदने हैं।

Maybe you want to save some money.

हो सकता है आप कुछ पैसे बचाना चाहते हैं।

A good way to save some money

कुछ पैसे बचाने का एक अच्छा तरीका है

is to buy things that are used,

इस्तेमाल किया हुआ सामान ख़रीदना

and to buy them from a secondhand store.

और उन्हें "secondhand store" से ख़रीदना।

This store is called a bulk food store.

इस दुकान को "bulk food store" कहते हैं।

At this store, the food doesn't come

इस दुकान में खाने का सामान कैन में या पहले से पैक किया हुआ नहीं आता।

in cans or prepackaged.

It comes in big barrels,

बड़े-बड़े पीपों में आता है

and you scoop out the amount of food you want

और उसमें से जितना आपको चाहिये हो उतना निकालकर

and put it into a bag,

आप झोले में डालते हैं।

then they weigh it, and you pay by the weight

फिर उसका वज़न किया जाता है और उसका पैसा वज़न के हिसाब से देते हैं।

of the food that you are buying.

This is a furniture store.

ये "furniture store" है।

This is where you would go

ये वो जगह है जहाँ आप जाएँगे

if you needed to buy a couch or a chair

अगर आपको सोफ़ा, कुर्सी, मेज़ या पलंग ही क्यों न ख़रीदना हो।

or a table or even a bed.

A furniture store has all of the furniture

"Furniture store" में वो सारा फ़र्नीचर मिलता है

that you would need for every room in the house.

जो आपको घर के कमरों के लिये चाहिये हो।

So this is not a store, and it's not a shop.

ये कोई "store" नहीं है और न ही ये कोई "shop" है।

We would call this a roadside stand.

हम इसे "roadside stand" कहेंगे।

A roadside stand usually sells fruits and vegetables,

"Roadside stand" आमतौर पर फल और सब्ज़ियाँ बेचते हैं

and they are usually located at the end

और वे अमूमन खेतों के बाहरी रास्ते के छोर पर और सड़क के किनारे लगे होते हैं।

of the lane of a farm,

and on the side of the road.

That's why they're called a roadside stand.

इसीलिये उन्हें "Roadside stand" कहा जाता है।

Sometimes we also call them a fruit stand

कभी-कभी हम उन्हें "fruit stand" या "vegetable stand" भी कहते हैं।

or a vegetable stand.

In my area of Ontario, Canada,

ओंटारियो, कनाडा के इस इलाके में

you can buy all kinds of different fruit

आप "Roadside stand" से हर तरह के अलग-अलग फल ख़रीद सकते हैं।

at a roadside stand.

You can buy peaches in season,

आप मौसम के दौरान आड़ू ख़रीद सकते हैं।

you can buy apples when they're in season.

आप सेब ख़रीद सकते हैं जब वे मौसम में हों।

So later this year, you can buy all kinds of fruit

साल के आनेवाले महीनों में आप "Roadside stand" से हर तरह के फल ख़रीद पाएँगे।

at a roadside stand.

If you have a pet like a dog or cat,

अगर आपके पास पालतू जानवर है जैसे कि कुत्ता या बिल्ली

you would need to go to a pet store

तो आपको "pet store" जाना पड़ेगा

if you needed to buy them some food.

अगर उनके लिये खाना ख़रीदना है।

So if you needed dog food or cat food,

तो अगर आपको कुत्ते या बिल्ली के लिये खाना चाहिये,

or maybe fish food,

या शायद मछली के लिये,

you would go to a pet store in order to buy it.

तो उसे ख़रीदने के लिये आप "pet store" जाएँगे।

This is called a flower shop, and we also call it a florist.

इसे "flower shop" कहा जाता है और हम इसे "florist" भी कहते हैं।

Maybe there's someone in your life

शायद आपकी ज़िंदगी मे ऐसा कोई है

that would like some flowers.

जिसे आप फूल देना चाहते हों

If there is, you would go to a flower shop

अगर है तो आप "flower shop" या "florist" पर जाकर

or a florist and you would buy them

उनके लिये फूलों का एक प्यारा-सा गुलदस्ता ख़रीदेंगे।

a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

If you needed to get your nails done,

अगर आपको अपने नाख़ूनों पर काम करवाना हो,

maybe you need a manicure or a pedicure,

मैनीक्योर या पैडीक्योर करवाना हो,

you could go to a nail shop.

तो आप "nail shop" जा सकते हैं।

I think you can also buy nail polish in a nail shop,

मेरे ख़्याल से आप "nail shop" पर नेल पॉलिश भी ख़रीद सकते हैं

but I must admit, I don't actually know.

लेकिन मैं मानता हूँ मुझे इस बारे में पक्का नहीं पता।

I have never been in a nail shop

मैं कभी भी "nail shop" पर नहीं गया

in my entire life.

अपनी पूरी ज़िंदगी में।

So you might be wondering,

हो सकता है आप सोच रहे हों

what is the difference between a store and a shop?

कि "store" और "shop" में क्या फ़र्क है?

Well, in Canada and in the United States

ख़ैर, कनाडा और अमेरिका में

we use the word store probably 90% of the time.

हम लगभग 90% "store" शब्द का इस्तेमाल करते हैं।

We use the word shop to refer to things that are small

हम "shop" शब्द का इस्तेमाल उन दुकानों के लिये करते हैं जो छोटी होती हैं

and usually sell one thing,

और आमतौर पर एक सामान बेचती हैं

so like a flower shop, a gift shop, a souvenir shop.

जैसे कि "flower shop", "gift shop", "souvenir shop".

We also use the word shop to refer to small stores,

हम "shop" का इस्तेमाल छोटे "store" के लिये भी करते हैं

maybe in a downtown area of a city.

जो शहर के डाउनटाउन इलाके में हो सकते हैं।

So you could say, "Oh, I'm gonna go do some shopping

"at the shops downtown."

at the shops downtown."

So we don't use the word shop

हम "shop" शब्द का इस्तेमाल

as much as they do in other English-speaking countries,

उतना नहीं करते जितना दूसरे अंग्रेज़ी बोलनेवाले देशों में किया जाता है।

so in Canada and the United States,

कनाडा और अमेरिका में

we definitely use the store a lot more.

हम निश्चित तौर पर "store" शब्द का इस्तेमाल कहीं ज़्यादा करते हैं।

This is a mall.

ये "mall" है।

A mall is a gigantic building

"Mall" एक विशाल इमारत होती है

that has many, many stores.

जिसमें बहुत सारी दुकानें होती हैं।

It has small stores and it also has big stores.

उसमें छोटी दुकानें होती हैं और बड़ी दुकानें भी।

Some of the big stores, like this store here,

कुछ बड़ी दुकानें, जैसे कि इस दुकान को

which we call "The Bay," "The Hudson's Bay Company,"

जिसे हम "The Bay", "The Hudson's Bay Company" कहते हैं,

we call a department store.

इनको हम "department store" कहते हैं।

A department store is a large store

"Department store" एक बड़ी दुकान होती है

that has several departments.

जिसमें कई सारे विभाग होते हैं।

You can buy clothing, you can buy shoes,

आप कपड़े ख़रीद सकते हैं, जूते ख़रीद सकते हैं,

you can buy electronics,

इलैक्ट्रॉनिक्स ख़रीद सकते हैं,

you can buy many, many different types of things

बहुत सारा अलग-अलग तरह का सामान ख़रीद सकते हैं

in a department store.

"department store" में।

If you need shoes, or if you need boots,

अगर आपको जूते या बूट्स चाहिये

you go to a shoe store.

तो आप जाते हैं "shoe store" में।

If you have kids or maybe a nephew or niece,

अगर आपके बच्चे हैं या हो सकता है भतीजा या भतीजी हो

you might want to come to this store.

तो आप शायद इस दुकान पर आना चाहेंगे।

This is a toy store.

ये "toy store" है।

This is a great place to buy toys.

खिलौने ख़रीदने के लिये बढ़िया जगह है।

I must say, though, that if you come

लेकिन मैं ये ज़रूर कहूँगा कि अगर आप

to a store like this before Christmas, though,

इस तरह की दुकान पर क्रिसमस के पहले आते हैं तो

it's way too busy.

बहुत ज़्यादा भीड़ होती है।

If you want to buy a car,

अगर आपको गाड़ी ख़रीदनी है

you come to a car dealership.

तो आप "car dealership" पर आएँगे।

We don't say car store in English.

हम अंग्रेज़ी में "car store" नहीं कहते।

That phrase doesn't exist.

ऐसा कोई शब्द नहीं है।

If you need to buy a new car,

अगर आपको नई गाड़ी ख़रीदनी है

you buy one at a car dealership,

तो आप उसे "car dealership" पर खरीदेंगे

like this dealership behind me,

जैसे कि मेरे पीछे वाली इस "dealership" पर

or like the two across the road.

या सड़क के पार उन दो "dealership" पर।

If you needed to buy jewellery,

अगर आपको गहने ख़रीदने हैं

you would come to a jewellery store.

तो आप "jewellery store" पर आएँगे।

This jewellery store behind me

ये "jewellery store" जो मेरे पीछे है

would sell rings, they would sell watches,

अंगूठियाँ बेचता होगा, घड़ियाँ बेचता होगा

and they would also sell things

और हार व कंगन जैसी चीजें भी बेचता होगा।

like necklaces and bracelets.

This is an outlet mall,

ये "outlet mall" है।

and an outlet mall has stores

"Outlet mall" में दुकानें होती हैं जिन्हें "outlet store" कहा जाता है।

that are called outlet stores.

At outlet store sells clothing

"Outlet store" सिर्फ़ एक कंपनी के कपड़े और दूसरा सामान बेचता है।

and other items from just one manufacturer,

so if you like all of the shoes

तो अगर आपको Nike जैसी कंपनी के बनाए हुए जूते और दूसरा सामान अच्छा लगता है

and other things that are made by a company like Nike,

you can come to the Nike outlet store

तो आप Nike के "outlet store" पर आ सकते हैं

to buy all of your Nike items.

अपना पसंदीदा Nike का सामान ख़रीदने के लिये।

This is a bookstore.

ये "bookstore" है।

This is the kind of store you would come to

आप इस तरह की दुकान पर आएँगे

if you needed to buy a book.

अगर आपको कोई किताब ख़रीदनी हो तो।

It has a cool name, too, it's called Chapters,

इसका नाम भी ख़ूब है। इसका नाम है "Chapters"

because, you know, books have chapters in them.

क्योंकि किताबों में "chapters" (अध्याय) होते हैं, है ना?

But I'm kind of surprised a store like this still exists,

लेकिन मैं थोड़ा हैरान हूँ कि इस तरह की दुकानें अभी भी वजूद में हैं

because there's another kind of store

क्योंकि एक और तरह की दुकान है

that people use a lot

जिसका इस्तेमाल लोग ख़ूब करते हैं

when they want to buy a book,

जब उन्हें कोई किताब ख़रीदनी होती है

and it's called an online store.

और उसे कहते हैं "online store".

Stores like Amazon exist only on the internet,

'Amazon' जैसी दुकानें सिर्फ़ इंटरनेट पर होती हैं

and we call them online stores.

और उन्हें हम "online store" कहते हैं।

Amazon sells books,

'Amazon' किताबें बेचता है

and it sells a lot of other things as well.

और बहुत सारा दूसरा सामान भी बेचता है।

So when people don't want to go out to buy something,

जब सामान ख़रीदने के लिये लोगों का बाहर जाने का मन नहीं होता

they buy it from an online store.

तो वे "online store" से ख़रीद लेते है।

Sometimes when you travel,

कभी-कभी जब आप सफ़र कर रहे होते हैं

you might want to buy a souvenir to remember the trip.

तो हो सकता है उस सफ़र को याद रखने के लिये आप कोई निशानी ख़रीदना चाहते हों।

You would do that at a souvenir shop,

आप उसे "souvenir shop" से ख़रीद सकते हैं

and sometimes we also call this a gift shop.

और कभी-कभी हम इसे "gift shop" भी कहते हैं।

This souvenir shop sells things like T-shirts

ये "souvenir shop" टी-शर्ट, कनाडा का झंडा और पोस्टकार्ड जैसा सामान बेचती है।

and Canada flags and postcards.

I'm not gonna tell you what city I'm in right now,

मैं आपको नहीं बताऊँगा मैं अभी किस शहर में हूँ

but we will visit this city,

and I will make a video here, probably this summer.
