Today we're going to be talking about question tags.

So what are question tags?

Então... o que são Question Tags ?

So a question tag is a very short question

Uma Question Tag é uma pequena pergunta que vai no final de um confirmação

placed at the end of a statement.

They are used when asking for two things.

Elas são usadas quando estamos perguntado por duas coisas.

And these two things are

E essas duas coisas são

1) confirmation

1: Confirmação

and 2) agreement.

E 2: Concordância

So in order to better understand native speakers,

Então, para entender melhor falantes nativos

you need to listen to their intonation

Você precisa ouvir a essas entonações, quando eles usarem Question Tags

when they use question tags.

So let's cover this first

and then move on to how they're formed.

So let's do this one.

Então quando eu falo:

It means, I know you like cake,

Significa que eu sei que você gosta de bolo, só estou tentando confirmar esse fato

I'm just trying to confirm the fact that you like cake.

E quando eu falo:

I'm not sure if you like cake.

Eu não tenho certeza se você gosta de bolo e não tenho certeza de qual será a resposta

I'm not sure about what the answer will be,

so I'm checking the fact again.

Então estou checando o fato novamente.

Então se a entonação é mais alta

I want to know the answer I'm not sure.

Eu quero saber uma resposta que eu não tenho certeza

Se a entonação é mais baixa.

I'm making conversation,

Estou conversando e quero saber uma resposta que eu ja sei.

I'm confirming something that I've already known.

Agora, geralmente.

Uma declaração positiva será seguida por uma pergunta negativa.

See the difference?

So it's somthing that's really really simple,

but I still have a lot of students that get really really confused with question tags.

So let's clarify this now.

E isso esclarece tudo.

Vamos começar com Declarações positivas e perguntas negativas.

Então "Are" vai com "Aren't"

Now, so those are the negative ones.

Agora, esse são negativos que são algumas exceções

There are just a couple of exceptions.

The first exception is with "am".

A primeira exceção é com "I'm"

Então eu não estou dizendo : Eu sou loira, não sou ?

which you can say,

Que você pode dizer, mas soaria muito formal

but it sounds very very formal.

it might look like a positive statement,

and a positive question tag.

But you need to make sure

that you see the negative word before it.
