Well, I was thinking the other day it's great to be happy

and positive, but it's also really, really important to know

how to express yourself when you're angry or annoyed.

Getting angry or annoyed is human nature

and we need to know how to express ourselves,

so I'm taking care of that today.

Let's get started.

Now I'm sure many of you will know the typical,

- Agora, estou certa de que você já sabe os básicos, tipo, "angry", "crossed", "mad", porém

more basic ones like angry, cross, mad.

But, today I want to share with you

and some idioms and some expressions that you can use.

it's going to help you with your speaking.

It's also going to help you with your listening

so that you can understand natives when they speak to you.

native speakers getting angry with you.

Just a quick warning, a couple of the words that I'm going

to talk about could offend some people,

or maybe you don't want your children knowing them.

- queira uma criança ouvido isso. Não são palavrões, mas se você tiver crianças por perto, coloque fones de ouvido

No swear words but if you're around children, headphones in.

And if you are easily offended

The first bit of new vocabulary

that I'm going to share with you

is actually a phrasal verb and this is to piss off.

- que é "to piss off", também pode ser "pissed off", que significa deixar alguém nervoso, irritar.

And you can also be pissed off.

And it means to make angry or to annoy.

So I could say, I felt really pissed off

- Então eu poderia dizer: Eu fiquei muito "pissed off" quando vi que alguém arranhou meu carro.

when I saw that somebody had scratched my car.

- ou: Eu acho que eu realmente "pissed off" meu professor(a) quando não entreguei meu

Or I think I really pissed my teacher off

when I didn't hand in my homework on time.

- dever de casa na data correta.

Just so you know, that word, to piss off,

- Só pra você saber que "to piss off", o "piss" sozinho é um modo vulgar de dizer ' urinar'

piss on its own is actually a vulgar word for

to urinate, so it's not respectful.

- então, não é 'respeitoso', use-o com amigos, em situações bem informais. É importante entender isto.

So around friends, very informal situations.

But, it's important you understand it.

- A próxima é outra frase "to rile (somebody) up", "to rile one up", e

The next one is another phrasal verb and this is

to rile somebody up, to rile one up.

And again it means to make somebody angry,

- novamente, significa irritar alguém até a pessoa - talvez - perder a paciência.

to push them until they maybe explode or lose their temper.

So to rile up or to rile somebody up is to make them angry.

- então, "to rile up" ou "to rile somebody up" é deixar alguém nervoso.

So I could say, somebody's been picking on me for a while

- Eu posso dizer: Fulano está pegando no meu pé há um tempo e ele realmente está "riling me up", to sentindo que vou perder a paciência.

and they're really riling me up,

I feel like I'm going to lose my temper.

- A próxima palavra vai com o verbo "to be", então há varios jeitos de dizer "to be angry" ou "to be annoyed".

OK, the next words all go with the verb to be.

So these are all ways to say to be angry, or to be annoyed.

So the first one, to be livid.

- A 1ª "to be livid" que quer dizer muito, muito bravo.

Livid just means really, really, really angry.

- Agora, "to be fuming", de novo, assim como "livid" quer dizer muito, muito bravo.

Then we have to be fuming.

Again, similar to livid, really, really angry.

- Aí tem o "To be seething": se você "seethe", você tá MUITO zangado!

Then we have to be seething.

If you seethe you are just so angry.

Then we have a couple that aren't as strong.

- Agora alguns que não são tão fortes, como "to be irked", é irritado, lembra +/- "pissed off".

We have to be irked.

That's annoyed and just ever so slightly pissed off.

And we also have miffed.

- E aí a gente tem "miffed".

If somebody does something that makes you go oh,

- Se alguém faz algo que faz você ficar tipo "Ouh."

- Você pode dizer que está meio "miffed".

then you could say you feel a bit miffed.

And now I have some idioms for you, some expressions

- Agora, tenho algumas expressões pra você, cujas quais usamos para mostrar irritação ou raiva.

that we like to use to express annoyance or anger.

The first one is to rub somebody up the wrong way,

- A 1ª é "to rub (somebody) up the wrong way", ou também

or also to rub somebody the wrong way, the up is optional.

- "to rub (somebody) the wrong way", o "UP" é opcional.

And to rub somebody the wrong way, think about it this way,

- "to rub somebody the wrong way", pensa assim: você pode fazer cafuné num gato do jeito certo

you can stroke a cat the right way

- ou do jeito errado e isso os irrita. É exatamente a mesma coisa com pessoas.

or you can stroke them the wrong way and it annoys them.

Well, this is exactly the same for people.

If you rub somebody up the wrong way, you are treating them

- Se você "rub somebody up the wrong way", você está tratando-os de maneira

in a way that might make them angry or annoyed.

- que talvez possa deixá-los irritados ou incomodados.

- Aquilo realmente "rubbed me up the wrong way", aquilo me incomodou/irritou pra caramba.

That really rubbed me up the wrong way,

that really annoyed me.

The next one, to be at the end of one's tether.

- Próxima: "to be at the end of ones tether", se eu falo isso, significa que falta muito pouco

So if I say I'm at the end of my tether,

it means I am this close to losing to losing my temper.

- para eu perder a cabeça, ficar irritado pra caramba. Você realmente me ofendeu, me deixou irritado

To getting really, really angry.

You've really offended me, you've really annoyed me,

I'm this close to really exploding.

- falta muuito pouco pra eu explodir.

Another very similar one is the last straw.

- Outra similar é "the last straw", é aquela ultima coisinha de uma lista de fatos que te irritaram.

So the last straw is that final thing in a collection

of many little things that have annoyed you,

but that one thing it's the last straw,

- Mas essa ultima coisa foi a gota d'água! Foi o que te fez perder o seu temperamento.

it's the thing that makes you lose your temper.

- Aí eu posso dizer que eu tive um dia terrível, porém quando meu trem foi cancelado, foi

So I could say I had a terrible day

but my running training being cancelled was the last straw.

- "the last straw", foi a gota d'água. Só "pfft", dane-se isso!! Tô muito puto!

I just, pff, screw it, was really angry.

- As duas seguintes são sobre perder a cabeça (temperamento), e claro

The next two are about losing your temper.

And obviously if you lose your temper it means (snaps)

- se você perde a cabeça, é isso, você está irritado PARA CARAMBA!

that's it, you are angry, you are shouting,

- Você tá gritando com todo mundo, e talvez até agressivo.

you get maybe a bit aggressive.

So one way of saying to lose one's

- Outro jeito de dizer "to loose ones temper" é

temper is to lose one's rag.

- "to loose ones rag", nesse caso, "rag" substitui "temper"

So rag replaces temper in this case.

- então, se alguém "lost their rag" quer dizer que a pessoa explodiu de raiva.

So if somebody lost their rag it means they

exploded in a fit of anger.

And another option is to fly off the handle.

- Outra opção é "to fly off the handle", novamente

Again to lose one's rag, to fly off the handle,

- "to loose ones rag" = "to fly of the handle" = "to loose ones temper".

to lose one's temper.
