Right, let's get on with the lesson.

The first phrasal verb is to ask out.

El primer verbo compuesto es to ask out"(invitar)

It's separable, so to ask somebody out,

and this is to invite someone on a date.

Es invitar salir a alguien a una cita

For example, he asked me out at a party,

and we've been inseparable ever since.

So the next one is to take somebody out.

This is to take somebody on a date.

So these first two are quite similar.

On our first date, he took me out to a restaurant.

Normally, the person who is taking the other person out

it probably doesn't mean that it's a serious relationship.

It's more of a casual fling.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Then we have another one, which is to drift apart,

Después tenemos otro que es to drift apart(distanciarse)

and this one's quite sad.

y este es bastante triste

To drift apart means to lose closeness.

To drift apart significa perder cercanía

You know, once you were really in love, really close,

Ya sabes, estás muy enamorado, muy cerca el uno del otro

and then, you drift apart.

y después os distanciais

It's quite self-explanatory.

El nombre hace intuir bastante el significado

You don't see eye-to-eye anymore.

No os miráis más a los ojos

So you could use it in a situation

Podrías usarlo en una situación

where someone asks you, "Why did you break up with your ex?"

cuando alguien te pregunta:"¿Por qué rompiste con tu novio?"

Uh, we just drifted apart.

Uh, simplemente nos distanciamos

We went our separate ways.

Next, we have to break up.

El siguiente que tenemos es to break up(romper)

To break up.

to break up(romper)

This is when a relationship ends.

You can also say to split up as well.

También se puede decir to Split up

We split up last year.

He broke up with me because I was too grumpy.

However, if you then reconcile, you make up.

So you break up, and then you make up.

To make up is to get back together.

But we made up, and it's been great ever since.

The next one is a really nice one.

To put up with.

To put up with

And to put with somebody or somebody's behaviour,

And to put up with alguien o el comportamiento de alguien

it means to tolerate.

So why did you split up?

I couldn't put up with his snoring.

I could not tolerate his snoring.

The next one, to cheat on somebody.

A fly.

The next one is to cheat on somebody.

La siguiente es to cheat on somebody(engañar a alguien)

And if you cheat on somebody, you are unfaithful to them.

Si engañas a alguien, eres infiel a alguien

Or if you are cheated on, he cheated on me,

o si "you are cheated on, he cheated on me"

then it means that somebody has been unfaithful to you.

entonces significa que alguien te ha sido infiel a ti.

They've gone off with somebody else behind your back.

Ha estado con alguien a tus espaldas

Never a nice thing to happen.

Nunca es una cosa agradable para que te pase

You could say that they really messed you around.

Podrías decir que "they really messed you around"

To mess somebody around to really treat them in a bad way.

To mess somebody around es tratar a alguien de mala manera

Maybe one day you say you want to be with them,

and then the next day you change your mind,

and they're waiting on your every move.

You get their hopes up.

You disappoint them again.

It's best not to mess anyone around.

Now the next one is something most of us hope to do one day,

and that is to settle down, and to settle down means

to finally find a stable relationship and stay there

and have a more quiet and relaxed life.

So your partying days are over.

You've had enough of dating and meeting loads of new people.

Maybe you start a family, or move in together,

Settling down is normally quite a nice thing to do.
