It would be fair to say that no one is perfect.

We all have moments when we are not at our best.

I have them.

You have them. Let's face it. We all have them.

We are all fallible.

The word fallible means the instance of being imperfect.

We are all capable of failing.

The action of failing can relate to many things.

A thing tried that sadly did not work out as planned, such as a goal

that wasn't quite reached in spite of the amount of work that was put into it.

We can also express being fallible in the sense of making a mistake.

To get something wrong is to make a mistake.

The mistake can be one of many things, a forgotten or confused detail

that leads to other problems occurring will quite often be described as a mistake.

For example, you go to the shops for hair shampoo, but you come home with shower gel.

You confuse one thing with another, leading to a mistake.

The word mistake can be used as a noun and a verb.

The mistake is what happened to confuse one thing with another thing is to ‘mistake’ as a verb.

You mistake one thing for something else.

You make an error of judgement.

You might mistake someone for another person because they look similar.

A distraction or something that is troubling you might lead to a mistake being made.

We often make mistakes when we are not concentrating on what we are doing.

A verbal mistake might occur.

You might say something rude or impolite without meaning to.

A forgotten line, or a mispronounced word during an important speech is a mistake.

To be mistaken is to be wrong.

You choose the wrong item.

You accuse the wrong person. You are mistaken.

We can also use the word error when describing a mistake.

You make an error.

The mistake is an error.

There is a well-known proverb that goes... ‘to ‘err’ is human, to forgive is divine’.

To be unsure or uncertain can also lead to mistakes being made.

The word ‘error’ derives from the Latin word for mistake.

An error can lead to many outcomes and results.

Someone might misread a map before going on a journey, leading to them getting lost after going in the wrong direction.

A safety check on a piece of machinery might not be done correctly.

This mistake could lead to terrible consequences for the person using it.

From this, we can see that even a small error can lead to a negative outcome.

An accident might occur because of one mistake taking place.

The word ‘mistake’ derives from Old Norse and literally means ‘take in error’.

Synonyms of mistake include... ‘Blunder’

‘Faux pas’ ‘Gaffe’

‘Cock up’

‘Mess up’ and... ‘Drop a clanger’.

Remember, no one gets it right every time.

Everyone makes mistakes.

After all, we are only human.

Always remember, making mistakes is how we learn.

Without mistakes, we would not be able to grow as individuals.

Learning English is a subject where mistakes will be made as you go along.
