Learn the English Phrases "to be in the way" and "to get out of the way"

In this English lesson I wanted to help you learn the English phrase to be in the way.

בשיעור האנגלית הזה רציתי לעזור לך ללמוד את הביטוי באנגלית כדי להפריע.

When you are in the way, it means someone is trying

כשאתה מפריע, זה אומר שמישהו מנסה

to go somewhere and you’re blocking their path.

ללכת לאנשהו ואתה חוסם את הדרך שלו.

Sometimes at the grocery store when I go down an aisle, there will be someone

לפעמים במכולת כשאני יורד במעבר, יהיה מישהו

in the way and I'll have to ask them to move because I can't get my cart through the aisle.

בדרך ואני אצטרך לבקש ממנו לזוז כי אני לא מצליח להעביר את העגלה שלי במעבר.

So when you are in the way, with...

אז כשאתה בדרך, עם...

you think someone is going to be in the way

אתה חושב שמישהו הולך להיות בדרך

it means they're going to be in your path when you're trying to get somewhere.

זה אומר שהוא יהיה בדרכך כשאתה מנסה להגיע לאנשהו.

I'm trying to think of another good example.

אני מנסה לחשוב על עוד דוגמה טובה.

Sometimes when I'm trying to get into my classroom, there will be students in the way.

לפעמים כשאני מנסה להיכנס לכיתה שלי, יהיו תלמידים בדרך.

They'll be standing in the doorway and I'll have to ask them to move

הם יעמדו בפתח ואני אצטרך לבקש מהם לזוז

so that I can get into my classroom.

So to be in the way simply means to block someone's path

אז להיות בדרך פירושו פשוט לחסום את הדרך של מישהו

when they're trying to get somewhere.

כשהוא מנסה להגיע לאנשהו.

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase to get out of the way.

הביטוי השני שרציתי ללמד אתכם היום הוא הביטוי לצאת מהדרך.

I'm offering the solution to the problem from the first phrase.

אני מציע את הפתרון לבעיה מהביטוי הראשון.

When you see someone in the way, sometimes it's nice to ask them to get out of the way.

כשאתה רואה מישהו בדרך, לפעמים נחמד לבקש ממנו להתרחק.

Sometimes we even say this directly.

לפעמים אנחנו אפילו אומרים את זה ישירות.

We'll say, Get out of the way!

אנחנו נגיד, צא מהדרך!

You might even yell it if your car was rolling along with

אתה יכול אפילו לצעוק את זה אם המכונית שלך מתגלגלת יחד עם אף

no one driving it and there was someone walking, you might yell, Get out of the way!

אחד לא נוהג בה והיה מישהו הולך, אתה עלול לצעוק, צא מהדרך!

to them so that they will be safe, meaning that they need to get out of the way of the vehicle.

They need to not be in the path that it is traveling down.

So to review, to be in the way means to

yeah, be in the way.

I can't define it by using the phrase.

But if I was standing in my driveway and Jen wanted to leave, I would be in the way.

And so I would need to get out of the way so that she could leave.

But there's definitely a lot of Canadian geese and there is either

I guess I should have mentioned that one of the reasons I'm talking about spring

I think today's the first full day of spring.
