I'm going to read out a sentence and you'll see it go up

There's going to be a word or maybe a couple of

I want you to search through your mind

for an alternative word, a more advanced English

word that's gonna help you to express the same idea

Now I'm gonna give you three seconds to think of it

but if you need a little longer that's totally okay,

I'm gonna give you a clue. I'm gonna add the

first three letters to the word to try and jog your memory

Now if you can, make some notes as we go along

I know that you've got some extra time at the moment

that you're using it correctly and it becomes

Again there's a few different options you can use here.

That softens it a little bit, doesn't it sound as negative.

It's one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in the city.

Now a little note here about superlative adjectives

الآن ملاحظة صغيرة هنا حول "صفات التفضيل"

because both of these are superlative forms, right?

لأن كلاهما في صيغة تفضيل ، صحيح ؟

Most one and two syllable adjectives

أغلب الصفات ذات مقطع لفظي واحد أو مقطعين

add -est when we make them a superlative

نضيف لهم " est " حينما نريد أن نجعلهم بصيغة تفضيل

like biggest, hungriest, wealthiest.

مثل : الأكبر ، الجائع ، الأغنى.

And adjectives with three syllables or more,

و الصفات ذات الثلاث مقاطع أو أكثر ،

they're made into the superlative form with 'most'.

يصبحون بصيغة التفضيل ونضيف لهم كلمة "Most" .

Most intelligent, most anticipated,

الأكثر ذكاءً ، الأكثر توقعاً،

most affluent, right?

الأكثر غِنَى، صحيح ؟

These are general rules,

هذه قواعدٌ عامة،

there are definitely some adjectives that break

هناك بالتأكيد بعض الصفات التي تخالف

these rules but they're good guides to run with.

هذه القواعد لكنها قواعد جيدة للعمل بها .

I don't have an interesting job,

لا أملك عملاً مثيراً للاهتمام .

the work I do is usually quite boring.

العمل الذي أقوم به هو في العادة جِدُ مُمِل.

I don't have an interesting job,

لا أملك عملاً مثيراً للاهتمام،

the work I do is usually quite mundane.

العمل الذي أقوم به هو في العادة جِدُ مملٌ .

It's quite mundane or it's very mundane.

هو جِدُ مُمِل أو هو ممل جداً.

I don't have time to explain more about this right now.

Notice that the preposition changed there too.

This is a good example of a collocation.

We don't say that we elaborate about something

لا نقول نحن نوضح "حول" شيء

right? We use 'on' with elaborate.

صحيح ؟ نحن نستعمل " في" مع كلمة توضيح

So we always elaborate on something.

إذاً نحن دائماً نوضح في شيءٍ ما.

Keep that in mind.
