အားလုံးပဲမင်္ဂလာပါ ဒီဗီဒီယိုကိုကြိုဆိုပါတယ်။

Now, in this lesson I’m going to talk about singular and plural nouns.

အခု ဒီသင်ခန်းစာမှာ singular နဲ့ plural noun တွေအကြောင်း ပြောပြပါမယ်။

Okay. Singular means one.

ဟုတ်ပြီ Singular ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

And plural means more than one or many.

အများကိန်းဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုထက်ပိုသော သို့မဟုတ် များစွာကို ဆိုလိုသည်။

Okay. So let’s look at the board.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒီတော့ ဘုတ်ကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

This part is showing singular nouns.

ဤအပိုင်းသည် ဧကဝုစ်နာမ်များကို ဖော်ပြသည်။

Okay, remember, singular means one.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဧကဝုစ်ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုတည်းကို သတိရပါ။

Okay.

So when the noun is singular, we put ‘a’ or ‘an’.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

ထို့ကြောင့် နာမ်သည် အနည်းကိန်းဖြစ်သောအခါ 'a' သို့မဟုတ် 'an' ကို ထည့်သည်။

So let’s look.

ကြည့်လိုက်ရအောင်။

“a ring”

“လက်စွပ်”

That means one ring. “a ring”

ဆိုသည်မှာ လက်စွပ်တစ်ကွင်းကို ဆိုလိုသည်။ “လက်စွပ်တစ်ကွင်း”

“a dog” Again, one dog.

“ခွေးတစ်ကောင်” တစ်ဖန် ခွေးတစ်ကောင်။

“a dog”

“ခွေး”

“a teacher” One teacher.

“ဆရာ” ဆရာတစ်ယောက်။

“a teacher”

“ဆရာ”

“an apple” “an apple”

“ပန်းသီး” “ပန်းသီး”

One apple.

ပန်းသီးတစ်လုံး။

“an egg” “an egg”

“ဥ” “ဥ”

One egg.

ဥတစ်လုံး။

So again, one…. noun is singular.

ဒီတော့ တစ်ဖန်…. noun သည် အနည်းကိန်းဖြစ်သည်။

Okay. Now over here, we have plural nouns.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ယခု ဤနေရာတွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် အများကိန်းနာမ်များရှိသည်။

Plural means more than one. Two, three, four, and so on.

အများကိန်း ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုထက်ပိုသည်။ နှစ်၊ သုံး၊ လေး၊ စသဖြင့်ပေါ့။

So, many. Okay.

အများကြီး။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So, when we have a plural noun, we have to,

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်တော်တို့မှာ အများကိန်းနာမ်တစ်ခုရှိတဲ့အခါ

don’t forget, we have to put ‘s’ or ‘es’.

's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' ကို ထည့်ရမယ်၊ မမေ့ပါနဲ့။

Again, if there’s more than one,

တစ်ဖန်၊ တစ်ခုထက်ပိုပါက၊

if the noun is plural,

နာမ်သည် အများကိန်းဖြစ်လျှင်

you have to put ‘s’ or ‘es’.

's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' ဟုထည့်ရပါမည်။

Now the nouns here, you just have to add an ‘s’.

အခုဒီမှာ နာမ်တွေကို 's' ထည့်ဖို့ပဲ။

Okay, and we’re going to go through them right now.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါတို့ အခုပဲ သူတို့ကို ဖြတ်သွားမယ်။

“two rings”.

"လက်စွပ်နှစ်ကွင်း"

Okay, we had one ring. “a ring”.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါတို့မှာ လက်စွပ်တစ်ကွင်းရှိတယ်။ "လက်စွပ်တစ်ကွင်း"။

Now we have “two rings.” With an ‘s’.

ယခု ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် "လက်စွပ်နှစ်ကွင်း" ရှိသည်။ 's' ဖြင့်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

We had “a dog”.

ငါတို့မှာ "ခွေး" ရှိတယ်။

The plural is “three dogs”.

အများကိန်းသည် “ခွေးသုံးကောင်” ဖြစ်သည်။

Again, ‘s’ “three dogs”

တစ်ဖန် 'ခွေးသုံးကောင်'

“a teacher” One teacher

"ဆရာ" ဆရာတစ်ယောက်

“four teachers” “four teachers”

"ဆရာလေးယောက်" "ဆရာလေးယောက်"

Don’t forget the ‘s’.

's' ကို မမေ့ပါနဲ့။

Okay, you must not forget that.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ မင်း အဲဒါကို မမေ့သင့်ဘူး။

“an apple”. That’s one apple.

"ပန်းသီးတစ်လုံး"။ အဲဒါ ပန်းသီးတစ်လုံး။

Then we have plural. “five apples”

ထို့နောက် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် အများကိန်းရှိသည်။ “ပန်းသီးငါးလုံး”

“five apples”

“ပန်းသီးငါးလုံး”

Okay. And the last one.

ကောင်းပြီ။ နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခု။

“an egg”. One egg.

"ဥတစ်လုံး"။ ကြက်ဥတစ်လုံး။

“six eggs”

"ဥခြောက်"

Don’t forget ‘s’. “six eggs”

's' ကိုမမေ့ပါနှင့်။ "ဥခြောက်"

Okay. I really need you to remember that.

ကောင်းပြီ။ အဲဒါကို မှတ်မိဖို့ တကယ်လိုတယ်။

“two rings”

“နှစ်ကွင်း”

“three dogs”

“ခွေးသုံးကောင်”

“four teachers”

“ဆရာလေးယောက်”

“five apples”

“ပန်းသီးငါးလုံး”

and “six eggs”.

နှင့် “ဥခြောက်လုံး”။

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်အပိုင်းကို ဆက်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

Now we have some more nouns.

ယခုကျွန်ုပ်တို့၌ နောက်ထပ်နာမ်အချို့ရှိသည်။

These nouns are a little bit different.

ဤနာမ်များသည် အနည်းငယ်ကွဲပြားသည်။

Uhhh, when they’re singular it’s the same.

အနည်းနဲ့အများတော့ အတူတူပါပဲ။

You put ‘a’ or ‘an’ in front.

ရှေ့မှာ 'a' သို့မဟုတ် 'an' ထားလိုက်ပါ။

But when you want to make them plural, you have to add ‘es’.

ဒါပေမယ့် အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်ချင်ရင် 'es' ကို ထည့်ရပါမယ်။

Remember, I said, you can add ‘s’ or ‘es’ to make a noun plural…more than one.

ငါပြောခဲ့တယ်၊ နာမ်ကို အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် 's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' ပေါင်းထည့်လို့ရတယ်... တစ်ခုထက်မကဘူး။

So again, these nouns you have to add ‘es’.

ဒီတော့ ဒီနာမ်တွေကို 'es' ထည့်ရမယ်။

So let’s go through them one more time.

ဒီတော့ နောက်တစ်ကြိမ် သူတို့ကို ဖြတ်ကျော်လိုက်ရအောင်။

Okay. So we have “a bus”.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒီတော့ ငါတို့မှာ “ဘတ်စ်ကား” ရှိတယ်။

“a bus”

“ဘတ်စ်ကား”

Again, that means one bus.

တစ်ဖန်၊ ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ ဘတ်စ်ကားတစ်စီးဖြစ်သည်။

“a box” “a box”

“တစ်ဗူး” “တစ်ဗူး”

“a watch” “a watch”

“နာရီ” “နာရီတစ်လုံး”

Okay, one.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ တစ်ခု။

“a kiss” “a kiss”

“နမ်း” “နမ်း”

And “an ax”. “an ax”

နှင့် “ပုဆိန်”။ "ပုဆိန်"

One. “an ax”

တစ်ခု။ “ပုဆိန်”

Okay. Now, we’re going to move on to the plural.

ဟုတ်ပြီ။ ယခု ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် အများကိန်းသို့ ဆက်သွားပါမည်။

Remember, again, to make the plural, or more than one, here, we add ‘es’. Okay.

နောက်တစ်ကြိမ်၊ အများကိန်း သို့မဟုတ် တစ်ခုထက်ပို၍ဖြစ်စေရန်၊ ဤနေရာတွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 'es' ကိုထည့်ကြောင်း သတိရပါ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

“a bus” One.

“ဘတ်စ်ကား” တစ်ခု။

“two buses” “two buses”

“ဘတ်စ်နှစ်စီး” “ဘတ်စ်ကားနှစ်စီး”

“နာရီတစ်လုံး”။ “လေးနာရီ”

‘es’ right. “four watches”

'မှန်' “နာရီလေးလုံး”

“a kiss” One.

“နမ်း” တစ်လုံး။

“five kisses” “five kisses”

“ငါးနမ်း” “အနမ်းငါးခု”

Add the ‘es’.

'es' ကိုထည့်ပါ။

And the last one.

နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခု။

“an ax” “an ax”

“ပုဆိန်” “ပုဆိန်”

Okay, we have “six axes”. “six axes”

ဟုတ်ပြီ၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် “ပုဆိန်ခြောက်ချောင်း” ရှိသည်။ "ပုဆိန်ခြောက်ချောင်း"

So don’t forget. We have to put ‘es’ to make these nouns plural.

ထို့ကြောင့် မမေ့ပါနှင့်။ ဤနာမ်များကို အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် 'es' ထားရပါမည်။

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်အပိုင်းကို ဆက်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

So, how do we know if we should put ‘s’ or ‘es’ to make the noun plural?

ဒီတော့ နာမ်ကို အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် 's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' လို့ ဘယ်လိုသိနိုင်မလဲ။

Well, for most nouns, you just have to put ‘s’.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နာမ်အများစုအတွက်၊ သင်သည် 's' ကိုထည့်ရန်သာလိုသည်။

Okay, for most of them.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ သူတို့အများစုအတွက်။

But, for some, you have to put ‘es’. And how do we know?

သို့သော် အချို့အတွက်၊ သင်သည် 'es' ကိုထည့်ရမည်။ ငါတို့ဘယ်လိုသိလဲ။

Well…

အင်း...

Let’s look at the board. We have some nouns.

ဘုတ်ကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် နာမ်အချို့ရှိသည်။

The first one is “church”. Okay.

ပထမတစ်ခုက "ဘုရားကျောင်း" ဖြစ်သည်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

“Church” ends in ‘ch’.

“ဘုရားကျောင်း” သည် 'ch' ဖြင့် အဆုံးသတ်သည်။

So if the noun ends in ‘ch’, you have to put ‘es’.

ဒါကြောင့် နာမ်က 'ch' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်ရင် 'es' ကိုထည့်ရမယ်။

Okay. So it becomes “churches”.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒါကြောင့် “ဘုရားကျောင်း” ဖြစ်လာတယ်။

So again, if the noun ends in ‘ch’,

ဒီတော့ နာမ်က 'ch' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်ရင်

add ‘es’ at the end to make it plural.

အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် အဆုံးမှာ 'es' ထည့်ပါ။

The same goes for the next word “brush”.

နောက်စကားလုံး “brush” မှာလည်း အလားတူပါပဲ။

You’ll notice “brush” ends in ‘sh’. Okay.

"brush" သည် 'sh' ဖြင့်အဆုံးသတ်သည်ကိုသင်သတိပြုမိလိမ့်မည်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So if it ends in ‘sh’, same thing, we add ‘es’ at the end to make it plural.

ဒါကြောင့် 'sh' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်ရင် အတူတူပါပဲ၊ အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် အဆုံးမှာ 'es' ပေါင်းထည့်ပါ။

Okay. The next word is 'fox'.

ဟုတ်ပြီ နောက်စကားလုံးက 'မြေခွေး'။

We have the letter ‘x’ at the end. Okay.

အဆုံးတွင် 'x' စာလုံးရှိသည်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

All nouns that end in ‘x’, we have to put ‘es’ to make it plural.

'x' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်တဲ့ နာမ်အားလုံးဟာ အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် 'es' ကို ထည့်ရပါမယ်။

Okay, so, ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘x’.

ဟုတ်ပြီ၊ 'ch'၊ 'sh', 'x'။

If the noun ends with these, put ‘es’.

နာမ်က ဒါတွေနဲ့အဆုံးသတ်ရင် 'es' ထည့်ပါ။

And the last one is “dress”.

နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခုကတော့ "ဝတ်စုံ" ပါ။

Okay, we have ‘ss’ at the end.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ အဆုံးတွင် 's' ရှိသည်။

Same thing.

အတူတူပါပဲ။

Put ‘es’ at the end to make it plural.

အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် အဆုံးမှာ 'es' ကိုထည့်ပါ။

Okay. “dresses”

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Again, if it ends in ‘ss’ put ‘es’.

တစ်ဖန် 'ss' ဖြင့်အဆုံးသတ်လျှင် 'es' ကိုထည့်ပါ ။

Okay, so please, don’t forget ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘x’, ‘ss’, we must put ‘es’ at the end.

အိုကေ၊ ဒါကြောင့် ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး 'ch', 'sh', 'x', 'ss' တို့ကို အဆုံးမှာ 'es' ထားရမယ်။

Most of the other nouns we just add ‘s’.

အခြားနာမ်အများစုသည် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ 's' ကို ထည့်ရုံသာဖြစ်သည်။

Okay. Now we have some special nouns on this side.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ယခု ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် အထူးနာမ်အချို့ရှိသည်။

“Potato, tomato, volcano”.

"အာလူး၊ ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး၊ မီးတောင်"။

Now, most nouns that end in ‘o’, like “photo”,

အခုတော့၊ "o" နဲ့ "photo" လိုမျိုး 'o' နဲ့အဆုံးတဲ့ နာမ်အများစုဟာ

all we have to do is add an ‘s’ to make it plural.

အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် 's' ကို ပေါင်းထည့်ရမှာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

“photos”. Okay.

"ဓာတ်ပုံများ"။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

But these are special because we actually have to put ‘es’ at the end… to make them…plural.

ဒါပေမယ့် အဲဒါတွေက အထူးသီးသန့်ဖြစ်တာကြောင့် 'es' ကို အဆုံးမှာ ထည့်ရမယ်... အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင်၊

Okay. So we have “potatoes, tomatoes, volcanoes”.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်တော်တို့မှာ “အာလူး၊ ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး၊ မီးတောင်” တွေရှိတယ်။

Again, these are a little bit special.

နောက်တစ်ခုက ဒါတွေက နည်းနည်းထူးခြားတယ်။

For most nouns that end in ‘o’, we just add ‘s’.

'o' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်တဲ့ နာမ်အများစုအတွက် 's' ကို ထည့်လိုက်ရုံပါပဲ။

Okay, and, uhhh, let’s go to the final part.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်ဆုံးအပိုင်းကို သွားကြစို့။

Okay, let’s do some extra practice.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ အပိုအလေ့အကျင့်တစ်ခုလုပ်ရအောင်။

On the board, I have some nouns.

ဘုတ်ပေါ်တွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တွင် နာမ်အချို့ရှိသည်။

Some are singular and some are plural.

အချို့မှာ အနည်းကိန်းဖြစ်ပြီး အချို့မှာ အများကိန်းဖြစ်သည်။

We have to decide together if we should put ‘s’ or ‘es’

's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' သို့မဟုတ် ၎င်းတို့ကို singular လုပ်ရန်

or make them singular. Okay.

အတူတကွ ဆုံးဖြတ်ရပါမည် ။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So you have to listen carefully and remember what we learned in this video.

ဒါကြောင့် သေချာနားထောင်ပြီး ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ သင်ယူခဲ့တာတွေကို မှတ်သားထားဖို့ လိုပါတယ်။

Okay. “two books”

ဟုတ်ပြီ “စာအုပ်နှစ်အုပ်”

Right, this is plural. There are two.

ဟုတ်တယ်၊ ဒါက အများကိန်း။ နှစ်ခုရှိတယ်။

“two books” We have to put an ‘s’.

"စာအုပ်နှစ်အုပ်" 's' တစ်ခုထည့်ရမယ်။

“two books”

“စာအုပ်နှစ်အုပ်”

Okay. The next one.

ကောင်းပြီ။ နောက်တစ်ခု။

“three class” Hmmmm.

“သုံးတန်း” ဟမ်။

“class” ends with an ‘s’. So what do we put?

"အတန်း" သည် 's' ဖြင့် အဆုံးသတ်သည်။ ဒါဆို ငါတို့ဘာတွေတင်ကြမလဲ။

“three classes” “three classes”

“သုံးတန်း” “သုံးတန်း”

Okay. So again the plural is “three classes”.

ကောင်းပြီ။ ထို့ ကြောင့် တစ်ဖန် အများကိန်းသည် “သုံးတန်း” ဖြစ်သည်။

Okay. “a lion” “a lion”

ဟုတ်ပြီ "ခြင်္သေ့" "ခြင်္သေ့"

Do we have to put anything? No.

တစ်ခုခုထည့်ရမလား။ နံပါတ်၊

No ‘s’ or ‘es’ because this is singular. There’s just one lion.

No 's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' ဖြစ်သောကြောင့် ၎င်းသည် အနည်းကိန်းဖြစ်သည်။ ခြင်္သေ့တစ်ကောင်ပဲရှိတယ်။

“a lion”

“ခြင်္သေ့”

“six hats” “six hats”

“ဦးထုပ်ခြောက်ထုပ်” “ဦးထုပ်ခြောက်ထုပ်”

We have to put an ‘s’. “six hats”

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 's' ကို ထားရမည်။ “ဦးထုပ်ခြောက်ထုပ်”

Okay. The next noun is “seven match”.

ဟုတ်ပြီ။ နောက်နာမ်က "ခုနစ်ထပ်"။

What do we put?

ငါတို့ဘာထားလဲ။

Well, we have a ‘ch’. So we have to put “matches”.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါတို့တွင် 'ch' ရှိသည်။ ဒါကြောင့် "ပွဲများ" ထားရမယ်။

“seven matches” “seven matches”

“ခုနစ်ပွဲ” “ခုနစ်ပွဲ”

Okay. And the last one is “one bat”.

ကောင်းပြီ။ နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခုကတော့ "လင်းနို့တစ်ချောင်း" ပါ။

“one bat”.

“လင်းနို့တစ်လုံး”။

We do not put an ‘s’ or ‘es’ because again, it’s just one.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 's' သို့မဟုတ် 'es' ကို မထည့်ထားသောကြောင့်၊ ၎င်းသည် တစ်ခုတည်းသာဖြစ်သည်။

We don’t have to put anything after ‘bat’.

'bat' ပြီးရင် ဘာမှထည့်စရာ မလိုဘူး။

Okay, this is singular.

အိုကေ၊ ဒါက အနည်းကိန်းပါ။

Okay, so, in this video, we learned how to make a noun singular.

Okay. And how to make a noun plural.

Remember, singular means one. Plural means more than one.

ဧကဝုစ်ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုတည်းကို သတိရပါ။ အများကိန်း ဆိုသည်မှာ တစ်ခုထက်ပိုသည်။

And remember, don’t forget, we have to put ‘s’ or ‘es’. Okay.
