Now, in this lesson I’m going to talk about singular and plural nouns.

Okay. Singular means one.

And plural means more than one or many.

Okay. So let’s look at the board.

This part is showing singular nouns.

Okay, remember, singular means one.

Okay.

So when the noun is singular, we put ‘a’ or ‘an’.

ตกลง.

ดังนั้นเมื่อคำนามเป็นเอกพจน์ เราจะเติม 'a' หรือ 'an'

So let’s look.

“a ring”

“แหวน”

That means one ring. “a ring”

“a dog” Again, one dog.

So again, one…. noun is singular.

อีกครั้งหนึ่ง…. คำนามเป็นเอกพจน์

Okay. Now over here, we have plural nouns.

ตกลง. ทีนี้ตรงนี้ เรามีคำนามพหูพจน์

Plural means more than one. Two, three, four, and so on.

พหูพจน์หมายถึงมากกว่าหนึ่ง สอง สาม สี่ และต่อๆ ไป

So, many. Okay.

มากมาย. ตกลง.

So, when we have a plural noun, we have to,

ดังนั้นเมื่อเรามีคำนามพหูพจน์ เราต้อง

don’t forget, we have to put ‘s’ or ‘es’.

อย่าลืมว่าต้องใส่ 's' หรือ 'es'

Again, if there’s more than one,

ขอย้ำอีกครั้ง ถ้ามีมากกว่าหนึ่ง

if the noun is plural,

ถ้าคำนามเป็นพหูพจน์

you have to put ‘s’ or ‘es’.

Now the nouns here, you just have to add an ‘s’.

ตอนนี้คำนามตรงนี้ คุณแค่ต้องเติม 's' เท่านั้น

Okay, and we’re going to go through them right now.

โอเค และเราจะผ่านมันไปตอนนี้

“two rings”.

“สองวง”.

Okay, we had one ring. “a ring”.

โอเค เรามีแหวนวงหนึ่ง "แหวน".

Now we have “two rings.” With an ‘s’.

ตอนนี้เรามี "สองวงแหวน" ด้วยเครื่องหมาย 's'

Okay.

ตกลง.

We had “a dog”.

เรามี "สุนัข"

The plural is “three dogs”.

พหูพจน์คือ "สุนัขสามตัว"

Again, ‘s’ “three dogs”

“a teacher” One teacher

“ครู” ครูหนึ่งคน

“four teachers” “four teachers”

“ครูสี่คน” “ครูสี่คน”

Don’t forget the ‘s’.

Okay, you must not forget that.

โอเค คุณต้องไม่ลืมเรื่องนั้น

“an apple”. That’s one apple.

"แอปเปิ้ล". นั่นคือแอปเปิ้ลลูกหนึ่ง

Then we have plural. “five apples”

Okay. And the last one.

“an egg”. One egg.

Don’t forget ‘s’. “six eggs”

Okay. I really need you to remember that.

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

Now we have some more nouns.

ตอนนี้เรามีคำนามเพิ่มเติมแล้ว

These nouns are a little bit different.

คำนามเหล่านี้มีความแตกต่างกันเล็กน้อย

Uhhh, when they’re singular it’s the same.

เอ่อ เมื่อพวกมันเป็นเอกพจน์ มันก็เหมือนกัน

You put ‘a’ or ‘an’ in front.

คุณใส่ 'a' หรือ 'an' ข้างหน้า

But when you want to make them plural, you have to add ‘es’.

Remember, I said, you can add ‘s’ or ‘es’ to make a noun plural…more than one.

So again, these nouns you have to add ‘es’.

So let’s go through them one more time.

Okay. So we have “a bus”.

Again, that means one bus.

Okay. Now, we’re going to move on to the plural.

Remember, again, to make the plural, or more than one, here, we add ‘es’. Okay.

“a bus” One.

“รถบัส” หนึ่ง.

“two buses” “two buses”

Add the ‘es’.

เพิ่ม 'es'

And the last one.

“an ax” “an ax”

“ขวาน” “ขวาน”

Okay, we have “six axes”. “six axes”

โอเค เรามี “หกขวาน” “หกขวาน”

So don’t forget. We have to put ‘es’ to make these nouns plural.

เพราะฉะนั้นอย่าลืม เราต้องใส่ 'es' เพื่อทำให้คำนามเหล่านี้เป็นพหูพจน์

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

So, how do we know if we should put ‘s’ or ‘es’ to make the noun plural?

แล้วเราจะรู้ได้อย่างไรว่าเราควรใส่ 's' หรือ 'es' เพื่อทำให้คำนามเป็นพหูพจน์?

Well, for most nouns, you just have to put ‘s’.

Okay, for most of them.

But, for some, you have to put ‘es’. And how do we know?

Let’s look at the board. We have some nouns.

The first one is “church”. Okay.

“Church” ends in ‘ch’.

Okay. So it becomes “churches”.

So again, if the noun ends in ‘ch’,

add ‘es’ at the end to make it plural.

The same goes for the next word “brush”.

You’ll notice “brush” ends in ‘sh’. Okay.

So if it ends in ‘sh’, same thing, we add ‘es’ at the end to make it plural.

Okay. The next word is 'fox'.

We have the letter ‘x’ at the end. Okay.

เรามีตัวอักษร 'x' ต่อท้าย ตกลง.

All nouns that end in ‘x’, we have to put ‘es’ to make it plural.

Okay, so, ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘x’.

โอเค งั้น 'ช' 'ช' 'x'

If the noun ends with these, put ‘es’.

ถ้าคำนามลงท้ายด้วยสิ่งเหล่านี้ ให้ใส่ 'es'

And the last one is “dress”.

และสุดท้ายคือ “การแต่งตัว”

Okay, we have ‘ss’ at the end.

โอเค เรามี 'ss' ต่อท้าย

Same thing.

สิ่งเดียวกัน

Put ‘es’ at the end to make it plural.

ใส่ 'es' ต่อท้ายเพื่อให้เป็นพหูพจน์

Okay. “dresses”

ตกลง. “dresses”

Again, if it ends in ‘ss’ put ‘es’.

อีกครั้ง หากลงท้ายด้วย 'ss' ให้ใส่ 'es'

Okay, so please, don’t forget ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘x’, ‘ss’, we must put ‘es’ at the end.

โอเค ได้โปรดอย่าลืม 'ch', 'sh', 'x', 'ss' เราต้องใส่ 'es' ต่อท้าย

Most of the other nouns we just add ‘s’.

Okay. Now we have some special nouns on this side.

“Potato, tomato, volcano”.

Now, most nouns that end in ‘o’, like “photo”,

all we have to do is add an ‘s’ to make it plural.

สิ่งที่เราต้องทำคือเติม 's' เพื่อให้เป็นพหูพจน์

“photos”. Okay.

But these are special because we actually have to put ‘es’ at the end… to make them…plural.

Okay. So we have “potatoes, tomatoes, volcanoes”.

Again, these are a little bit special.

For most nouns that end in ‘o’, we just add ‘s’.

On the board, I have some nouns.

Some are singular and some are plural.

We have to decide together if we should put ‘s’ or ‘es’

เราต้องตัดสินใจร่วมกันว่าเราควรใส่ 's' หรือ 'es'

or make them singular. Okay.

หรือทำให้เป็นเอกพจน์ ตกลง.

So you have to listen carefully and remember what we learned in this video.

Okay. “two books”

Right, this is plural. There are two.

“two books” We have to put an ‘s’.

Okay. The next one.

“three class” Hmmmm.

“class” ends with an ‘s’. So what do we put?

“three classes” “three classes”

“สามชั้นเรียน” “สามชั้นเรียน”

Okay. So again the plural is “three classes”.

โอเค พหูพจน์อีกครั้งคือ "สามชั้นเรียน"

Okay. “a lion” “a lion”

ตกลง. “สิงโต” “สิงโต”

Do we have to put anything? No.

เราต้องใส่อะไรมั้ย? ไม่

No ‘s’ or ‘es’ because this is singular. There’s just one lion.

No 's' หรือ 'es' เพราะเป็นเอกพจน์ มีสิงโตเพียงตัวเดียว

“a lion”

“สิงโต”

“six hats” “six hats”

“หมวกหกใบ” “หมวกหกใบ”

We have to put an ‘s’. “six hats”

เราต้องใส่ 's' “หมวกหกใบ”

Okay. The next noun is “seven match”.

โอเค คำนามถัดไปคือ “เจ็ดนัด”

What do we put?

เราจะใส่อะไร?

Well, we have a ‘ch’. So we have to put “matches”.

เรามี 'ch' ดังนั้นเราจึงต้องใส่ "การแข่งขัน"

“seven matches” “seven matches”

“เจ็ดนัด” “เจ็ดนัด”

Okay. And the last one is “one bat”.

โอเค และอันสุดท้ายคือ “ค้างคาวตัวหนึ่ง”

“one bat”.

“ค้างคาวตัวหนึ่ง”

We do not put an ‘s’ or ‘es’ because again, it’s just one.

We don’t have to put anything after ‘bat’.

Okay, this is singular.
