In this video we will focus on two English vowel sounds:

ဤဗီဒီယိုတွင် အင်္ဂလိပ်သရသံနှစ်ခုကို အဓိကထားပြပါမည်-

/I/ and /i:/

/i/ နှင့် /i:/

Now I know they sound very similar, but they are different.

ယခုတော့ ၎င်းတို့အသံသည် အလွန်ဆင်တူသော်လည်း ကွဲပြားသည်ကို ကျွန်ုပ်သိပါသည်။

And they are two very important vowel sounds in English.

So let's start with our two example words:

Now listen to how I pronounce this word.

Although they are similar, they are two different vowel sounds.

First, let's try to make the sound /I/.

အရင်ဆုံး /I/ အသံထွက်အောင် ကြိုးစားကြည့်ရအောင်။

So when you pronounce it,

ဒါကြောင့် အသံထွက်တဲ့အခါ

your tongue is a little higher in your mouth,

သင့်လျှာဟာ သင့်ပါးစပ်ထဲမှာ အနည်းငယ်ပိုမြင့်ပြီး

closer to the front.

အရှေ့နဲ့ ပိုနီးကပ်လာပါတယ်။

/I/ Stretch out your lips a little.

/I/ မင်းနှုတ်ခမ်းကို နည်းနည်းဆန့်လိုက်ပါ။

And it's a short sound.

Let's now practice the second sound, /i:/.

အခု ဒုတိယအသံကို လေ့ကျင့်လိုက်ရအောင် /i:/။

So the tongue has the same position.

ဒါကြောင့် လျှာဟာ တူညီတဲ့ အနေအထား ရှိပါတယ်။

It's a little bit higher, closer to the front.

၎င်းသည် အနည်းငယ်မြင့်ပြီး၊ ရှေ့နှင့် ပိုနီးပါသည်။

But, when you say /i:/, you stretch out your lips a little more.

ဒါပေမယ့် /i:/ လို့ပြောတဲ့အခါ နှုတ်ခမ်းကို နည်းနည်းပိုဆန့်တယ်။

And it's a long sound.

Your lips should feel a little tighter, too.

They’re words with very similar sounds,

I have a few sentences for you with different /I/ and /i:/ sounds.

So pay attention and repeat after me.

The first sentence is:

Pick a seat and sit without making a peep.

Don't peel a peach or eat its pit.

In this video we are going to focus on two English vowel sounds.

/e/ and /eɪ/

/e/ နှင့် /eɪ/

These are two very important vowel sounds in English.

And they sound different even though very similar.

Let's start with two example words.

The first word is ‘let’.

Can you hear the sound /e/?

The second word is ‘late’.

I know to some of you they sound exactly the same.

First, let's learn how to make the sound /e/.

So your tongue is in the middle part of your mouth.

It's a little bit trickier.

It's what we call a diphthong.

So it's actually two vowel sounds combined.

So as you can see, your mouth moves,

I have sentences for you and they all contain /æ/ and /ʌ/ sounds.

သင့်အတွက် ကျွန်ုပ်တွင် စာကြောင်းများ ရှိပြီး ၎င်းတို့အားလုံးတွင် /æ/ နှင့် /ʌ/ အသံများ ပါရှိသည်။

so pay attention and repeat after me.

The first sentence is:

In this video, I'm gonna focus on two tricky sounds:

ဤဗီဒီယိုတွင်၊

/əʊ/ and /ɔ:/

/əʊ/ နှင့် /ɔ:/

Sounds similar,

အသံဆင်တူ

but they are very different

သော်လည်း ၎င်းတို့သည် အလွန်ကွဲပြား

and you need to hear the difference and to pronounce them differently.

ပြီး ခြားနားချက်ကို ကြားရန်နှင့် အသံထွက်ကွဲပြားရန် လိုအပ်ပါသည်။

Let's take two example words shall we...

ဥပမာ စကားလုံး နှစ်လုံးကို ကြည့်ရအောင်...

The first word is 'so'.

ပထမ စကားလုံးက 'ဒါ' ပါ။

/əʊ/ is the sound.

/əʊ/ သည် အသံဖြစ်သည်။

Can you hear it?

ကြားနိုင်မလား။

'so'

'so'

The second word is 'saw'.

ဒုတိယစကားလုံးမှာ 'မြင်' သည်။

The sound is /ɔ:/.

အသံက /ɔ:/။

Can you hear it?

ကြားနိုင်မလား။

so /səʊ/

ဒါကြောင့် /səʊ/

saw /sɔː/

saw /sɔː/

Now I know they sound very similar to most of you.

အခု သူတို့အသံက မင်းအများစုနဲ့ တော်တော်တူတာကို ငါသိတယ်။

But they are different

ဒါပေမယ့် သူတို့ဟာ ကွဲပြား

and with a little bit of practice, you will improve your skills.

ပြီး အလေ့အကျင့်နည်းနည်းနဲ့ သင့်အရည်အချင်းတွေကို မြှင့်တင်ပေးပါလိမ့်မယ်။

/əʊ/ and /ɔ:/ in English.

I want you to hear the difference and to be able to pronounce them correctly.

ခြားနားချက်တွေကို နားထောင်ပြီး မှန်ကန်စွာ အသံထွက်နိုင်စေချင်ပါတယ်။

Also you should know the IPA spelling.

IPA စာလုံးပေါင်းကိုလည်း သိထားသင့်ပါတယ်။

Watch how I move my mouth.

ငါ့ပါးစပ်ကို ဘယ်လိုရွှေ့မလဲ စောင့်ကြည့်ပါ။

And please try to repeat after me.

ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး ငါ့နောက်ကို ထပ်ပြောစမ်းပါ။

I know you can do this so let's get to it.

မင်း ဒါကို လုပ်နိုင်တယ်ဆိုတာ ငါသိတယ် အဲဒါကို သွားကြည့်ရအောင်။

First, let's make the sound /əʊ/.

ပထမဆုံး အသံကို /əʊ/ လုပ်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

/əʊ/ is actually a diphthong.

/əʊ/ သည် အမှန်အားဖြင့် နှုလုံးဖြစ်သည်။

So it's two vowel sounds /əʊ/.

ဒါကြောင့် သရသံ နှစ်လုံးက /əʊ/ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

So as you pronounce it, as you can see, my mouth is quite round.

မင်းမြင်တဲ့အတိုင်း ငါ့ပါးစပ်က တော်တော်ဝိုင်းနေတယ်။

It moves and it becomes smaller.

ရွေ့လျားပြီး သေးငယ်လာသည်။

And now for the sound /ɔ:/.

As you can see my mouth is round as well but it's doesn't move.

မင်းမြင်တဲ့အတိုင်း ငါ့ပါးစပ်က ဝိုင်းနေပေမယ့် မလှုပ်ဘူး။

And the sound is a tiny bit longer.

ပြီးတော့ အသံက နည်းနည်းပိုရှည်တယ်။

Let's now use minimal pairs.

Words that are very similar but the vowel sounds change.

They're a very good way to practice these vowel sounds.

First, let's just practice the sounds.
