And in this video, we're going to talk about a slang word that comes from California.

This slang word is actually from Northern California,

in areas like San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland.

And this word is the slang word ‘hella’.

ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಪದವು 'ಹೆಲ್ಲಾ' ಎಂಬ ಗ್ರಾಮ್ಯ ಪದವಾಗಿದೆ.

And it actually has two different meanings.

So let's look at how it's used in some sentences.

Okay, so here's the first example sentence.

ಸರಿ, ಮೊದಲ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ವಾಕ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

“This room is ‘hella’ hot.”

"ಈ ಕೋಣೆ 'ಹೆಲ್ಲಾ' ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿದೆ."

hmm… How is ‘hella’ used?

ಹ್ಮ್... 'ಹೆಲಾ' ಅನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ?

It's used to mean the word ‘really’ or ‘very’, right?

ಇದನ್ನು 'ನಿಜವಾಗಿ' ಅಥವಾ 'ತುಂಬಾ' ಎಂಬ ಪದವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥೈಸಲು ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಸರಿ?

“This room is very hot.”

"ಈ ಕೋಣೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ."

or “This room is really hot.”

ಅಥವಾ "ಈ ಕೋಣೆ ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ."

In that case, we can say, “This room is hella hot.”

ಆ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, "ಈ ಕೋಣೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ" ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಹೇಳಬಹುದು.

So that's the first meaning.

ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅದು ಮೊದಲ ಅರ್ಥವಾಗಿದೆ.

Let's move on to the second meaning.

ಎರಡನೆಯ ಅರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗೋಣ.

And here's another example sentence.

“There's hella food at home.”

"ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ."

That doesn't match the word ‘really’, right?

ಅದು 'ನಿಜವಾಗಿ' ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಸರಿ?

Let's look. There's really food at home.

ಬನ್ನಿ ನೋಡೋಣ. ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ.

It doesn't make sense actually. In the second sentence,

ಇದು ವಾಸ್ತವವಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಥವಿಲ್ಲ. ಎರಡನೆಯ ವಾಕ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ,

‘hella’ is used to mean there's ‘a lot of’

'ಹೆಲ್ಲಾ' ಅನ್ನು 'ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು'

or there's ‘many’ things, right?

ಅಥವಾ 'ಹಲವು' ವಿಷಯಗಳಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥೈಸಲು ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಸರಿ?

So in this case, instead of saying, “There's a lot of food at home,”

ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, "ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಬದಲು,

we can say, “There's hella food at home.”

"ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ" ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಹೇಳಬಹುದು.

So hurry and go home and eat some of that food.

ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ತ್ವರೆಯಾಗಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಆ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ತಿನ್ನು.

Now under ‘hella’, I've written the word ‘hecka’.

ಈಗ 'ಹೆಲಾ' ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ನಾನು 'ಹೆಕ್ಕ' ಪದವನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

And that's because some people feel uncomfortable using the word ‘hella’, right?

ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಹೇಳಬಹುದು, "ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಕ್ಕಾ ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ."

Again, it means the same thing - there's a lot of food at home.

ಮತ್ತೆ, ಅದೇ ಅರ್ಥ - ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ.

“There's hecka food at home.”

"ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಕ್ಕಾ ಆಹಾರವಿದೆ."

But if you don't want to use ‘hella’, you can use this one.

ಆದರೆ ನೀವು 'ಹೆಲಾ' ಅನ್ನು ಬಳಸಲು ಬಯಸದಿದ್ದರೆ, ನೀವು ಇದನ್ನು ಬಳಸಬಹುದು.

And in the same way you can use ‘hecka’ to substitute ‘hella’ in the first sentence as well.

It's very hot in here but I don't want to say ‘hella’.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬಾ ಬಿಸಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಆದರೆ ನಾನು 'ಹೆಲಾ' ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲು ಬಯಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

But remember, again, this slang word ‘hella’ and ‘hecka’ is actually from Northern California,

ಆದರೆ ನೆನಪಿಡಿ, ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ, ಈ ಗ್ರಾಮ್ಯ ಪದ 'ಹೆಲ್ಲಾ' ಮತ್ತು 'ಹೆಕ್ಕಾ' ವಾಸ್ತವವಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಕ್ಯಾಲಿಫೋರ್ನಿಯಾದಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದೆ,

So keep that in mind.

Okay so let's look at a couple examples sentences.

ಸರಿ, ಒಂದೆರಡು ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳ ವಾಕ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡೋಣ.

“This pizza is hella good.”

"ಈ ಪಿಜ್ಜಾ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ."

“This pizza is hella good.”

"ಈ ಪಿಜ್ಜಾ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ."

“You look hella pretty.”

"ನೀವು ತುಂಬಾ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತೀರಿ."

“You look hella pretty.”

"ನೀವು ತುಂಬಾ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತೀರಿ."

“Your hair is hecka long.”

"ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೂದಲು ತುಂಬಾ ಉದ್ದವಾಗಿದೆ."

“Your hair is hecka long.”

"ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕೂದಲು ತುಂಬಾ ಉದ್ದವಾಗಿದೆ."

“I have hella things to do.”

"ನನಗೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಿವೆ."

“I have hella things to do.”

"ನನಗೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಿವೆ."

Okay, so those are the ways that we can use ‘hella’ or ‘hecka’ in our everyday speech.

Some hip-hop artists from that area,

ಆ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಕೆಲವು ಹಿಪ್-ಹಾಪ್ ಕಲಾವಿದರು,

such as e-40, and the Federation, use the slang word in their music.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ e-40, ಮತ್ತು ಫೆಡರೇಶನ್, ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗೀತದಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ್ಯ ಪದವನ್ನು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

They use ‘hella’ mostly.
