Describing Cost / Price in English

And in this video, we're going to talk about  how to describe the cost or price of something. 

この動画では 、何かのコストや価格を説明する方法について説明します。

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right. 

さて、これは ショッピングが好きな私のような人にとって重要ですよね。

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses/ 

たとえば、私は 特にドレスを買うのが好きな

So I might say the cost of  this dress is affordable. 

ので、このドレスの価格は手頃だと言えるかもしれません 。

Okay. This dress is affordable. 

わかった。 このドレスは手頃な価格です。

‘affordable’ means that this  dress is not too expensive. 

「手頃な価格」とは、この ドレスが高すぎないことを意味します。

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress. I have enough money. 

私には十分なお金があり、このドレスを買うことができます. 私は十分なお金を持っています。

I can buy this dress. So I would say this dress is affordable. 

私はこのドレスを買うことができます。 だから私はこのドレスは手頃な価格だと思います.

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say  

このドレスは安いとも言えます。 高価なものは誰でも知っていますが、

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive. ‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’  

安価と言うのは高価の反対です。 「手頃な」と「安価」

have very similar meanings. Again, I have enough money to buy this. 

は非常に似た意味を持っています。 繰り返しますが、私はこれを買うのに十分なお金を持っています。

It's not too expensive. Then, we have ‘cheap’. 

それはあまりにも高価ではありません。 次に、「安い」です。

This dress is cheap. Now, ‘cheap’ is similar, it means it's not  

このドレスは安いです。 さて、「cheap」も同様で、高価ではないことを意味します

expensive, but it's a little bit more negative. If you say that something is cheap, people may

think that the quality is not very good. It's not very nice.

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite.

The opposite of these words is ‘expensive’. This dress is expensive.

これらの言葉の反対は「高価」です。 このドレスは高いです。

It costs a lot of money, and too much money maybe. I don't want to buy it. 

結構なお金がかかりますし、もしかしたらお金がかかりすぎるかもしれません。 買いたくない。

We can also say ‘overpriced’. This dress is overpriced. 

「割高」とも言えます。 このドレスは高すぎる。

That means the price is too high. So, again, I don't want to buy this dress,  

つまり、価格が高すぎるということです。 もう一度言いますが、このドレスは買いたくありません

it's too expensive and overpriced. Okay. 

。 高すぎて値段が高すぎます 。 わかった。

Let's look at some more examples together. Let's look at some examples.

The hat was affordable because it was on sale. The hat was affordable because it was on sale.

look beautiful, but they are too cheap. These shoes look beautiful, but they are

That jacket is too expensive. That jacket is too expensive.

Last. I cannot buy this overpriced bag. 

最後。 この高すぎるバッグは買えません。

I cannot buy this overpriced bag. Okay, so in this video, we learned that

when we want to describe the cost of something,  as not too expensive, we say ‘affordable’. 

、何かの費用が高すぎないことを説明したい場合 、「手頃な」と言うことがわかりました。

Okay. Something is affordable if it's not too expensive. 

わかった。 値段が高すぎなければ手頃な価格です

If I can buy it with the money I have. On the other hand, if something is not affordable, 

。 手持ちのお金で買えるなら。 一方、何かが手ごろではない

if the cost is very high, we  say ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced’. 

場合、コストが非常に高い場合、 「高価」または「高すぎる」と言います。

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable. 

私にとって、 H&M や Forever 21 などのブランドは手頃な価格だと思います。

Some people don't think this way. They think it's cheap. 

このように考えない人もいます。 彼らはそれが安いと思っています。

Sometimes, yes, some of the items can be cheap. But for me, I like those brands

because they are affordable. Another store that I like in Korea,
