Describing Cost / Price in English

And in this video, we're going to talk about  how to describe the cost or price of something. 

그리고 이 동영상에서는 어떤 것의 비용 또는 가격을 설명하는 방법에 대해 이야기할 것입니다.

Now, this is important to people  like me who like shopping, right. 

이제 이것은 쇼핑을 좋아하는 저와 같은 사람들에게 중요합니다.

So, for example, I like  shopping especially for dresses/ 

예를 들어 저는 특히 드레스 쇼핑을 좋아합니다/

So I might say the cost of  this dress is affordable. 

그래서 이 드레스의 비용이 저렴하다고 말할 수 있습니다.

Okay. This dress is affordable. 

좋아요. 이 드레스는 저렴합니다.

‘affordable’ means that this  dress is not too expensive. 

'affordable'은 이 드레스가 너무 비싸지 않다는 것을 의미합니다.

I have enough money and I can pay for this dress. I have enough money. 

나는 충분한 돈이 있고 이 드레스를 살 수 있습니다. 나는 돈이 충분하다.

I can buy this dress. So I would say this dress is affordable. 

이 드레스를 살 수 있습니다. 그래서 저는 이 드레스가 저렴하다고 말하고 싶습니다.

I can also say this dress is inexpensive. We all know what expensive is but we say  

나는 또한이 드레스가 저렴하다고 말할 수 있습니다. 우리는 모두 비싼 것이 무엇인지 알고 있지만 우리는

inexpensive so that's the opposite of expensive. ‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’  

저렴하다고 말하므로 비싸다의 반대입니다. '저렴한'과 '저렴한'은

have very similar meanings. Again, I have enough money to buy this. 

매우 비슷한 의미를 가지고 있습니다. 다시 말하지만, 나는 이것을 살 충분한 돈이 있습니다.

It's not too expensive. Then, we have ‘cheap’. 

너무 비싸지 않습니다. 그렇다면 '싸다'가 있습니다.

This dress is cheap. Now, ‘cheap’ is similar, it means it's not  

이 드레스는 싸다. 이제 '싸다'도 비슷합니다. 비싸지 않다는 뜻이지만

expensive, but it's a little bit more negative. If you say that something is cheap, people may  

조금 더 부정적입니다. 싸다고 하면 사람들은

think that the quality is not very good. It's not very nice. 

품질이 좋지 않다고 생각할 수 있습니다. 별로 좋지 않습니다.

Okay. Now, let's look at the opposite. 

좋아요. 이제 그 반대를 봅시다.

The opposite of these words is ‘expensive’. This dress is expensive.

이 말의 반대말은 '비싸다'입니다. 이 드레스는 비싸다.

It costs a lot of money, and too much money maybe. I don't want to buy it. 

비용이 많이 들고 너무 많은 돈이 들 수도 있습니다. 나는 그것을 사고 싶지 않다.

We can also say ‘overpriced’. This dress is overpriced. 

우리는 또한 '고가'라고 말할 수 있습니다. 이 드레스는 고가입니다.

That means the price is too high. So, again, I don't want to buy this dress,  

그만큼 가격이 너무 비싸다는 뜻이다. 다시 말씀드리지만 저는 이 드레스를 사고 싶지 않습니다.

it's too expensive and overpriced. Okay. 

너무 비싸고 비싸요. 좋아요.

Let's look at some more examples together. Let's look at some examples. 

몇 가지 더 많은 예를 함께 살펴보겠습니다. 몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

The hat was affordable because it was on sale. The hat was affordable because it was on sale. 

모자는 세일 중이라 저렴했어요. 모자는 세일 중이라 저렴했어요.

Next. I wish this bag was more affordable. 

다음. 이 가방이 더 저렴했으면 좋겠어요.

I wish this bag was more affordable. Next. 

이 가방이 더 저렴했으면 좋겠어요. 다음.

This computer is surprisingly inexpensive. This computer is surprisingly inexpensive. 

이 컴퓨터는 놀라울 정도로 저렴합니다. 이 컴퓨터는 놀라울 정도로 저렴합니다.

Next. These shoes  

다음. 이 신발은

look beautiful, but they are too cheap. These shoes look beautiful, but they are  

예뻐 보이지만 너무 싸요. 이 신발은 예뻐 보이지만

too cheap. Next. 

너무 싸요. 다음.

That jacket is too expensive. That jacket is too expensive. 

그 재킷은 너무 비싸요. 그 재킷은 너무 비싸요.

Last. I cannot buy this overpriced bag. 

마지막. 나는 이 비싼 가방을 살 수 없다.

I cannot buy this overpriced bag. Okay, so in this video, we learned that  

나는 이 비싼 가방을 살 수 없다. 자, 이 동영상에서 우리는

when we want to describe the cost of something,  as not too expensive, we say ‘affordable’. 

무언가의 비용을 너무 비싸지 않은 것으로 설명하고 싶을 때 '저렴한'이라고 말하는 것을 배웠습니다.

Okay. Something is affordable if it's not too expensive. 

좋아요. 너무 비싸지 않으면 합리적인 가격입니다. 내가

If I can buy it with the money I have. On the other hand, if something is not affordable, 

가진 돈으로 살 수 있다면. 반면에 어떤 것이 저렴하지 않거나

if the cost is very high, we  say ‘expensive’ or ‘overpriced’. 

비용이 매우 높으면 '비싸다' 또는 '과대평가되다'라고 합니다.

For me, I think some brands like  H&M and Forever 21 are affordable. 

저에게는 H&M과 Forever 21과 같은 일부 브랜드가 저렴하다고 생각합니다.

Some people don't think this way. They think it's cheap. 

어떤 사람들은 이렇게 생각하지 않습니다. 그들은 그것이 싸다고 생각합니다.

Sometimes, yes, some of the items can be cheap. But for me, I like those brands  

때로는 그렇습니다. 일부 항목은 저렴할 수 있습니다. 하지만 저는 그 브랜드가

because they are affordable. Another store that I like in Korea,  

저렴하기 때문에 좋아합니다. 내가 한국에서 좋아하는 또 다른 매장은

it's called Zara or Jara in Korea as they say. They have some items that are affordable and

some items that are very expensive. Too expensive for me to buy. 

매우 비싼 품목도 있습니다. 내가 사기에는 너무 비싸다.
