EVERY DAY vs EVERYDAY What is the Difference? Learn English Vocabulary

In this video, I’m going to talk about the two similar and sometimes confusing English words

In questo video parlerò delle due parole inglesi simili e talvolta confuse

‘every day’ and ‘everyday’.

"every day" e "everyday".

These two words are commonly confused in English

Queste due parole sono comunemente confuse in inglese,

especially in writing,

specialmente per iscritto,

you will have a better understanding of the difference and when to use these words.

Let’s get started.

Let’s start with ‘everyday’.

Cominciamo con "tutti i giorni".

It's one word and it's an adjective.

È una parola ed è un aggettivo.

It means something that is commonplace or usual.

Significa qualcosa che è banale o usuale.

It's something that's suitable to be used on ordinary days.

È qualcosa che è adatto per essere utilizzato nei giorni ordinari.

Let’s look at some examples.

Diamo un'occhiata ad alcuni esempi.

The first sentence says,

La prima frase dice:

‘Since we're just walking around town, I think I’ll wear my everyday shoes.’

"Dal momento che stiamo solo camminando per la città, penso che indosserò le mie scarpe di tutti i giorni".

In this case, the word ‘everyday’ is used to describe these shoes.

In questo caso, la parola "tutti i giorni" è usata per descrivere queste scarpe.

Here it means these are my usual shoes - you know shoes I wear on a normal day.

Qui significa che queste sono le mie solite scarpe - sai le scarpe che indosso in una giornata normale.

The next sentence says,

La frase successiva dice:

‘The worries of everyday life can drag you down.’

"Le preoccupazioni della vita quotidiana possono trascinarti giù".

Here ‘everyday’ is used to describe worries.

Qui "ogni giorno" è usato per descrivere le preoccupazioni.

What kind of worries?

Che tipo di preoccupazioni?

Common worries.

Preoccupazioni comuni.

Worries that are usual for many people.

Preoccupazioni che sono normali per molte persone.

Now, I will talk about ‘every day’.

Ora parlerò di "ogni giorno".

These are two words.

Queste sono due parole.

It is an adverbial phrase about time.

È una frase avverbiale sul tempo.

It means each day or daily.

Significa ogni giorno o ogni giorno.

Let’s look at some examples.

Diamo un'occhiata ad alcuni esempi.

The first sentence says,

La prima frase dice:

‘I need to start going to the gym every day.’

"Devo iniziare ad andare in palestra tutti i giorni".

Here, it means Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday all the way up till Sunday

Qui significa lunedì, martedì, mercoledì, giovedì fino a domenica,

- every single day.

tutti i giorni.

And the next sentence says,

E la frase successiva dice:

‘You need to study English every day.’

"Devi studiare l'inglese ogni giorno".

Just like the first sentence,

Proprio come la prima frase,

this is saying you need to study English every day of the week.

questo sta dicendo che devi studiare l'inglese ogni giorno della settimana.

Now, let's do a checkup.

Ora facciamo un controllo.

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

In questa conversazione ci sono due frasi.

In one of the sentences, we should use the two words’ every day’.

In una delle frasi, dovremmo usare le due parole "ogni giorno".

In the other sentence, we should use the one word ‘everyday’.

Nell'altra frase, dovremmo usare l'unica parola "ogni giorno".

Take a moment to think about where we use these words.

Prenditi un momento per pensare a dove usiamo queste parole.

‘A’ says, ‘Are you busy _blank_?’

"A" dice: "Sei occupato _vuoto_?" "

‘A’ is asking if ‘B’ is busy every day of the week.

A" chiede se "B" è occupato tutti i giorni della settimana.

And so we use the two words ‘every day’.

E così usiamo le due parole "ogni giorno".

‘B’ says, ‘Yes, my _blank_ life is very busy.’

"B" dice: "Sì, la mia vita _vuota_ è molto impegnata".

We need to find an adjective to describe B's life.

Dobbiamo trovare un aggettivo per descrivere la vita di B.

Something that means common or usual,

Qualcosa che significa comune o usuale,

so we need to use the one word ‘everyday’.

Let's look at it again.

Diamo un'occhiata di nuovo.

A: Are you busy every day?

A: Sei impegnato tutti i giorni?

B: Yes, my everyday life is very busy.

B: Sì, la mia vita quotidiana è molto impegnata.

Now you know the difference between ‘every day’ and ‘everyday’.
