This is Day 8 and we're studying "hit" phrasal verbs.

Ειμαστε στη 8η μερα και θα μελετησουμε φρέιζλ βερμπσ με τη λεξη hit

Hit back. If you hit back at someone, you’re responding to an attack with an attack.

hit back, Αν πεις σε καποιον hit back ,ανταποδίδεις μια επιθεση με επίθεση

After the paper ran a false story on her, she hit back with a lawsuit.

Μετα τη την ψευδή δημοσιευση της εφημεριδας εις βαρος της, (she hit back with a lawsuit)ανταπέδωσε κανοντας αγώγη.

If you hit somebody up, you’re asking them for something.

αν πεις σε καποιον hit up , σημαινει οτι ζητας κατι απο καποιον

“Hey, can I hit you up for a dollar?”

Μπορώ να ζου ζητησω ενα δολαριο?

Or, “if you ever need anything, hit me up.”

Ή '' Αν χρειαστεις καμια φορα ο,τιδηποτε να μου το ζητησεις'' (hit me up)

That is, if you ever need anything, just ask.

Δηλαδή, αν ποτε χρειαστεις κατιι, να μου το ζητησεις.

What if you hit it off with someone?

Κι αν πεις σε καποιον hit it off ?

That means you get along really well right from the beginning.

Αυτο σημαίνει να τα πηγαινεις καλα με κάποιον απ την αρχή .

Luckily, I hit it off with my mother-in-law.

Ευτυχως, τα πηγαινω καλα με την πεθερα μου απ την πρωτη στιγμη που γνωριστηκαμε

If you hit on someone, well, that means you’re sexually interested in someone and want them to know it.

Hit on, σημαινει, οταν ενδιαφερεσαι ερωτικα για καποιον και θελεις να του το δειξεις .

I’m not sure, but I think that guy at the bar is hitting on me.

Δεν ειμαι σίγουρη αλλά νομιζω ότι αυτο το παιδί στο μπαρ' μου την πεφτει'

It means, you don’t think he was just talking to you for the sake of conversation.

Αυτο σημαινει οτι ,δε νομιζεις οτι μιλαει μαζι σου απλα για να κανει κουβεντα.

You think he was talking to you to let you know he was interested.

Πιστευεις οτι μιλουσε μαζι σου απλά για να καταλαβεις οτι ενδιαφερεται για σενα.

So that’s if you hit on someone. But what if you hit on something?

Αυτο ειναι το hit on someone.Aλλά αν πεις Hit on σε κατι?

That is, to find something. I think you hit on the answer there.

Αυτο παει να πει,οτι το βρήκες.Νομίζω οτι τη βρήκες την απαντηση

I think I hit on a solution to the problem.

νομιζω τη βρήκες τη λυση στο προβλημα

Hit has the H consonant and the IH vowel,

Hi-, hi-. To make the IH vowel, the tongue tip stays down,

but the front part of the tongue arches up towards the front of the roof of the mouth,

Ih, hi-

The jaw can drop just a little bit. Hi-.

Then we have the T. you can make this a Stop T if the next word begins with a consonant, like in ‘hit back’.

You hit me, I hit back.

Hit back. Hit. Back.

So the air stops. There’s not a T sound, there’s an abrupt stop, no sound.

Hit back, hit back. I just stop the air really quickly in my throat.

If the next word begins with a vowel or a diphthong,

then you can make it a Flap T, like in ‘hit on’.

That guy hit on me all night. Hit on, hit on

Hiiiiiiiitoooooon. Rr- rr- rr-

Just one quick flap against the roof of the mouth. Hit on.
