Most Common Grammar Mistake Ever!! (Don't Do This!)

Sometimes you can improve your English a hell of a lot in a very short amount of time

I want to show you one thing today that will really improve your English

1,000% sure this is the mistake that I correct most often

this is the one that I hear most in my classes

and this is the mistake listen for the reply that she gives

this is a very common mistake so don't worry if you didn't see the mistake in this question

Now in Latin languages, probably others too...

It's enough to say your equivalent of "I want" for the reply

Es suficiente decir su equivalente de "Quiero" para la respuesta,

however in English we must have an object

in this case the object is a verb "to go"

you can of course say:

yes I want to go

that's fine no problem

está bien, no hay problema,

however it's much more common, much more natural

just to say "I want to"

"Yeah I want to"

and the same for any other verb

Let's change the verb for a noun

Cambiemos el verbo por un sustantivo

For example: "Do you want a coffee?"

Por ejemplo: "¿Quieres un café?"

in your reply you still need that object

en tu respuesta todavía necesitas ese objeto

Which object should I use for a coffee?

¿Qué objeto debo usar para un café?

just say:

simplemente diga:

"Yeah I want one

"Sí, quiero uno

...I always want one"

... Siempre quiero uno".

this talks about something general

Esto habla de algo general,

but if you're talking about a specific thing

pero si estás hablando de algo específico,

then the question might be "Do you want this?"

"Do you want that?"

in which case the reply would not be "I want one"

we're talking about a specific thing

but honestly this happens in many other examples

This is an example of not using the object when you should

For example: if you want to ask "Did you like / love / hate this thing?"

this one singular thing

esta cosa singular

Then your answer should not be "Yes I loved"

Entonces tu respuesta no debería ser "Sí, me encantó"

You're missing that object

Te estás perdiendo ese objeto

in this case it's a singular thing

en este caso es una cosa singular

we're talking specifically so what is that object?

, estamos hablando específicamente entonces, ¿cuál es ese objeto?

It's a pronoun

Es un pronombre

"It" of course

"Eso" por supuesto

So don't forget your objects, don't forget your pronouns

Así que no olvides tus objetos, no olvides tus pronombres

but be careful, modal verbs don't work the same

pero ten cuidado, los verbos modales no funcionan igual

in a question like "Can you dance?"

en una pregunta como "¿Puedes bailar?"

Notice that modal verbs don't have "To" with the verb

Tenga en cuenta que los verbos modales no tienen "To" con el verbo

So it works different

Your answer should NOT be:

Su respuesta NO debe ser:

"Yes I can to"

"Sí, puedo"

Because remember in the question there's no "Can you TO dance?"

So the answer: NO "TO"!

So never forget your objects and your "TO" preposition in sentences and questions
