Most Common Grammar Mistake Ever!! (Don't Do This!)

Sometimes you can improve your English a hell of a lot in a very short amount of time

did you hear the mistake in her reply?

let's use the same mistake but a different example

같은 실수를 하지만 다른 예를 들어 봅시다.

Do you want a coffee?

Do you want a coffee?

yes I want

그래 I want

How about that time? No? Let's do another one

그 시간은 어때? 아니요? 하나 더 해보자

Do you want a banana?

바나나 먹을래?

yes I want

예 I want

Do you want THIS banana?

이 바나나를 원하십니까?

yes I want

예, 괜찮습니다.

okay fine

so something is missing here. Let's fix it

this is a very common mistake so don't worry if you didn't see the mistake in this question

There's one word missing

do you know what it is?

and remember her reply was this

Now in Latin languages, probably others too...

It's enough to say your equivalent of "I want" for the reply

답장에 대해 "I want"에 해당하는 말을 하는 것으로 충분

however in English we must have an object

in this case the object is a verb "to go"

이 경우 목적어는 동사입니다. "to go"는

you can of course say:

yes I want to go

예 I want to go

that's fine no problem

괜찮습니다 문제 없습니다.

however it's much more common, much more natural

그러나

just to say "I want to"

"I want to" "

"Yeah I want to"

Yeah I want to"라고 말하는 것이 훨씬 더 일반적이고 훨씬 더 자연스럽습니다.

and the same for any other verb

다른 동사에 대해서도 마찬가지입니다.

"Do you want to sleep?"

자고 싶니?"

"Yes I want to, very much"

"Yes I want to, very much"

Let's change the verb for a noun

동사를 명사로 바꿔 봅시다.

For example: "Do you want a coffee?"

예: "Do you want a coffee?"

in your reply you still need that object

귀하의 회신에는 여전히 해당 개체가 필요합니다.

Which object should I use for a coffee?

어떤 개체를 커피에 사용해야 합니까?

just say:

그냥 말하세요:

"Yeah I want one

"예, 하나 원해요

...I always want one"

...항상 하나 원해요"

this talks about something general

이것은 일반적인 것에 대해 이야기

but if you're talking about a specific thing

하지만 특정한 것에 대해 이야기하고 있다면

then the question might be "Do you want this?"

질문은 "이것을 원하세요?"가 될 수 있습니다.

"Do you want that?"

"너 저걸 원하니?"

in which case the reply would not be "I want one"

이 경우 응답은 "I want one"이 아닐 것입니다.

we're talking about a specific thing

우리는 특정 항목에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다.

the reply is:

"It"

"It" "

"Yes I want it! Give it to me!"

Yes I want it! 나에게 줘!"

but honestly this happens in many other examples

그러나 솔직히 이것은 다른 많은 예에서 발생합니다.

This is an example of not using the object when you should

이것은 객체를 사용해야 할 때 사용하지 않는 예입니다.

For example: if you want to ask "Did you like / love / hate this thing?"

예를 들면: "Did you like / love / hate this thing?"

this one singular thing

이 하나의 특이한 것

Then your answer should not be "Yes I loved"

그렇다면 당신의 대답은 "예, 사랑했습니다"가 아니어야 합니다

You're missing that object

당신은

in this case it's a singular thing

we're talking specifically so what is that object?

그 물건을 놓치고 있는 것입니다.

It's a pronoun

"It" of course

물론 대명사 "It"입니다.

So don't forget your objects, don't forget your pronouns

목적어, 대명사를 잊지 마세요.

but be careful, modal verbs don't work the same

하지만 조심하세요. 조동사는

in a question like "Can you dance?"

"Can you dance?"와 같은 질문에서 동일하게 작동하지 않습니다.

Notice that modal verbs don't have "To" with the verb

조동사에는 동사와 함께 "To"가 없다는 점에 유의하세요

So it works different

그래서 다르게 작동합니다

Your answer should NOT be:

귀하의 대답은

"Yes I can to"

"Yes I can to"가 아니어야 합니다

Noooo

Noooo

Because remember in the question there's no "Can you TO dance?"

질문에 "Can you TO dance?"

no

아니오

So the answer: NO "TO"!

그래서 답은 "TO"가 아닙니다!

So never forget your objects and your "TO" preposition in sentences and questions

그러니 문장과 질문에서 목적어와 전치사 "TO"를 잊지 마세요.
