Most Common Grammar Mistake Ever!! (Don't Do This!)

I want to show you one thing today that will really improve your English

1,000% sure this is the mistake that I correct most often

more than any other mistake

this is the one that I hear most in my classes

and this is the mistake listen for the reply that she gives

let's use the same mistake but a different example

this is a very common mistake so don't worry if you didn't see the mistake in this question

There's one word missing

C'è una parola che manca

do you know what it is?

"to"

and remember her reply was this

e ricordate, la sua risposta era questa

Yes I want

" Sì, voglio"

Now in Latin languages, probably others too...

Nelle lingue latine e probabilmente anche in altre

It's enough to say your equivalent of "I want" for the reply

è sufficiente dire il vostro equivalente di "io voglio" per la risposta

however in English we must have an object

tuttavia in inglese dobbiamo avere un oggetto

in this case the object is a verb "to go"

in questo caso l'oggetto è un verbo : " to go" ( andare)

you can of course say:

potete ovviamente dire

yes I want to go

" Sì, voglio andare"

that's fine no problem

Va benissimo, nessun problema

however it's much more common, much more natural

però è molto più comune, molto più naturale

just to say "I want to"

dire solo : " I want to" ( sì, lo voglio)

"Yeah I want to"

" Sì, lo voglio"

and the same for any other verb

ed è lo stesso per qualsiasi altro verbo

"Do you want to sleep?"

" Vuoi dormire?

"Yes I want to, very much"

" Sì, lo voglio...davvero tanto"

Let's change the verb for a noun

Cambiamo il verbo in un sostantivo

For example: "Do you want a coffee?"

per esempio : " vuoi un caffè?"

in your reply you still need that object

nella vostra risposta avete ancora bisogno di un oggetto

Which object should I use for a coffee?

Quale oggetto dovrei usare per un caffè?

just say:

diciamo solamente

"Yeah I want one

" Sì, ne voglio uno ( Yes, I want one)"

...I always want one"

"...sì, ne voglio sempre uno"

this talks about something general

Questo parla di qualcosa in generale

but if you're talking about a specific thing

ma se state parlando di una cosa specifica

then the question might be "Do you want this?"

allora la domanda potrebbe essere : " Vuoi questo?"

"Do you want that?"

" Vuoi quello?"

in which case the reply would not be "I want one"

In tal caso la risposta non sarebbe " Ne voglio uno ( I want one)"

we're talking about a specific thing

stiamo parlando di una cosa specifica

the reply is:

la risposta è

"It"

"it"

"Yes I want it! Give it to me!"

" Sì, lo voglio ( I want it), dammelo!"

but honestly this happens in many other examples

ma onestamente questo accade con tanti altri esempi

This is an example of not using the object when you should

Questo è un esempio nel quale non viene usato l'oggetto quando invece si dovrebbe

For example: if you want to ask "Did you like / love / hate this thing?"

Per esempio, se volete chiedere : " ti è piaciuto, hai amato/odiato questa cosa?"

this one singular thing

questa unica, particolare cosa

Then your answer should not be "Yes I loved"

allora la vostra risposta non dovrebbe essere : " Sì, ho amato ( Yes, I loved)"

You're missing that object

vi manca quell'oggetto

in this case it's a singular thing

in questo caso è una cosa in particolare

we're talking specifically so what is that object?

stiamo parlando nello specifico, quindi qual è quell'oggetto?

It's a pronoun

E' un pronome

"It" of course

"it" ovviamente

So don't forget your objects, don't forget your pronouns

Quindi non dimenticatevi gli oggetti, non dimenticatevi i pronomi

but be careful, modal verbs don't work the same

ma state attenti, i verbi modali non funzionano allo stesso modo

in a question like "Can you dance?"

in una domanda come : " sai ballare?"

Notice that modal verbs don't have "To" with the verb

notate che i verbi modali non hanno il "to" insieme al verbo

So it works different

Quindi funziona diversamente

Your answer should NOT be:

La vostra risposta NON dovrebbe essere :

"Yes I can to"

" Sì, sono capace ( Yes, I can to)"

Noooo

Nooo!

Because remember in the question there's no "Can you TO dance?"

Perchè ricordate che nella domanda non c'è : " Can you TO dance?"

no

No!

So the answer: NO "TO"!

Quindi la risposta : non c'è il "to"

So never forget your objects and your "TO" preposition in sentences and questions

Quindi non dimenticatevi mai gli oggetti e la preposizione "to" nelle frasi e nelle domande
