addict and I have a feeling maybe, perhaps you are one of those as well.

Something I brought

during my little trip.

We've been away over the past few days, Mr.

Steve and myself. We've been travelling around the country.

There was my self and also there was me and Mr.

Steve.

I was on the beach. Mr. Steve was with me.

We had a lot of fun, but now we are back.

The only negative thing I would say just one negative thing.

We had to drive a long way yesterday. Can you believe it?

I think yesterday we must have driven in the car around

150 miles yesterday.

Also, whilst we were away we drove around in the car in total.

I won't tell you now.

Mr. Steve will tell you later.

How many miles do you think we have driven?

So guess.

See if you can guess how many miles we actually did over the past five days whilst we were away.

We did go a long way.

We went all the way to North Yorkshire and I have to say it is a place I've never been to before.

I've never been to Yorkshire and I have to say it is a beautiful part of the country, so we did have a very nice time.

I know what you're thinking now.

You just mentioned Mr. Steve, but who is Mr.

Steve?

Well, he will be with us a little bit later on at around about 2:30.

We have Mr.

Steve here, lives in the studio, not only that, we also have lots of lovely videos to show you of our time away.

We saw some very dramatic things.

We also had some lovely moments as well.

We met up with.

Well, it's very complicated to explain, but it was one of Mr.

Steve's friends from many years ago and he got married to a lovely lady called Helen.

We went to see Helen

and we had a lovely time with her and her two sons as well.

A very wonderful trip.

In fact, there are so many things to tell you about the trip we went on.

I don't think there is enough time in today's live stream.

If I was completely honest with you, I don't think I have enough time to tell you about all of the things we have been up to.

Anyway, we are here.

and we are coming towards the end of the month next week,

and then we are going slowly into April already.

I know I've said this already many times.

Has this year confessed

because for me, from my own point of view, I feel as if this year, 2025 has gone by very quickly and I don't know why.

Very strange.

Some people say that if you are busy, if you do lots of things in your life,

if you are always doing things, sometimes you might find that your days will go by quickly.

You might find that time goes by fast when you are busy.

So a lot of people say that.

They say that time does go by fast.

If you are doing lots of things or if you are having a good time, I have to say,

I can't believe I've been away for five days because it did go rather fast.

But we did also do lots of things.

So maybe those two things are connected.

So perhaps it is true if you are having a good time, if you are doing lots of things, then time appears to go by very quickly.

It would not be English addict without you.

And the reason why I don't know or I can't remember, is because I've had such a busy week.

Last week?

We did lots and lots of touring last week.

In fact, I think it is safe to say, very safe to say

that I've never spent so much time in the car with Mr.

Steve.

And there is another thing as well that I want to mention during the whole journey,

all of the miles that we travelled, not once, not one time, did Mr.

Steve get angry.

And I think that is amazing.

Really, even I can't believe that.

So for all of the miles that we were travelling in the car last week, not once did Mr.

Steve get road rage.

Not one time.

So I have to say, do you know what I think that deserves a round of applause?

So congratulations Mr.

Steve for not getting angry during our big trip. Or.

This is what Mr.

Steve normally does when he's driving.

He drives along and then he he bangs on the steering wheel and he shakes his fist

at somebody else on the road.

So sometimes Mr.

Steve does get road rage, but not once

during our big journey, not one time did Mr.

Steve become angry on the road.

We will have a chance to ask him why. How did it happen, Mr. Steve?

How were you able to stay so calm whilst driving in your car?

What about you

now? If you drive a car, if you are a person who drives a lot,

do you ever get road rage?

Road rage?

It is something that happens a lot here in the UK.

People will be driving and other people on the roads will do silly things,

and sometimes you can get into a big argument with another driver on the road.

And this is something that Steve used to do a lot.

He used to lose his temper.

And I know what you're going to say, Mr. Duncan. We can't believe it.

We can't believe that such a sweet guy like Mr.

Steve could ever lose his temper.

It does seem strange, doesn't it? But no.

No one believes me when I say that.

Mr. Steve sometimes gets angry.

Most people don't believe me because they never see that side of Mr.

Steve. But let me tell you now, when he's in the car, when he's driving around,

just like most drivers, I

think when a person gets behind the wheel of a car, when they are driving a car, I think quite often

they change into another person.

Their personality changes.

I don't know how or why, but I think it does.

I think a person does

sort of change.

Mr. Duncan, you are able to calm Mr. Steve down.

He is happy being with you.

And it was a little holiday.

I suppose it was.

It did feel as if we've just had a holiday, even though we didn't go very far.

Well, when I say not very far, I mean we didn't fly anywhere.

We didn't fly abroad, which I suppose is a good thing.

Did you see in the news

a lot of people were planning to go away this week.

They were going to fly from Heathrow Airport, but unfortunately there was a huge fire that took place.

It could very close to the airport and it did cut off a lot of the

I think it was all the power supply to the computers and all of the systems in the airport,

which meant that lots of people were not able to get on their planes and fly away

on their holidays.

It did cause a lot of chaos.

So perhaps sometimes it is a good thing not

to fly anywhere.

So in a way, I suppose getting in the car and driving around.

Is better than being stuck at the airport because your plane has been cancelled.

I think there is a lot to learn from that situation.

I have a feeling Mr.

Steve might be talking about that as well. A little bit later on.

We went to a shop that sells lots of antiques and old things.

Steve in the shop.

I thought they might buy him. You see, because he is an antique.

But I bought this and it's my little bit bell.

Of course it might be annoying.

Inaki says the worst thing on the road are reckless driving drivers.

I agree,

I think something happens whenever a person sits behind the wheel of a car.

They change into something else.

They become slightly possessed by the car.

But I do agree with you.

Yes, there are a lot of reckless people, people who do not take care on the road.

Quite often they will drive too fast or they will try to overtake other cars

whilst driving too fast.

And also quite often they will be in the wrong lane of the road as well.

We saw that yesterday.

In fact, we were driving back from Yorkshire yesterday and we did see 1 or 2 people driving in a crazy way,

and one of the reasons why I was so shocked was because the weather was terrible.

The rain was howling down, you could barely see

in front of you, but we made it safe.

We got back home safe and sound.

Mr. Steve will be with us in a few moments from now.

Oh, by the way, we are talking about honesty.

We often think of being honest as being truthful.

So in other words, you don't lie.

You don't say things that are untrue.

However, another way of looking at honesty is to say a person who expresses how they really feel.

So in other words, they don't hide their emotions.

They don't hide their feelings.

So maybe if you ask a person who is always honest, you ask that person for their opinion.

They will give you their real feeling.

They will express how they really feel.

So we will be talking about that later.

Also, we will be playing our new game. A lot of people like it.

They love it.

In fact, we have a lot of things to talk about today.

Christina says we need to stay calm when we are driving around.

I am lucky because I don't drive, so I don't have a car.

I don't drive, and if I do need to get somewhere, I will take a taxi or I will take off the bus or I will take Mr.

Steve, Mr. Steve sometimes is my chauffeur.

He drives me around to the places I need to be at.

It's half to 25 to 3.

But we're here. We're happy.

We want to teach you some English, but we also want to have a bit of fun at the same time.

Yes, and entertain you to a certain degree.

And yes, we've had a busy week. Mr. Duncan, I can see you've been talking about driving.

Well there is a reason why I mentioned driving because we've been away.

Of course we've been taking a trip and I thought it would be lovely for us to do that.

And Mr.

Steve agreed with me as well.

So what we've been doing is travelling around the UK.

We went to one particular part of the UK, didn't we, Steve?

We did. We went to Yorkshire.

Or more specifically to North Yorkshire. Yes.

Which is a part of the country which we haven't really explored a very much before.

No. It's

people talk about Yorkshire a lot.

It's sort of peaceful.

People see Yorkshire as a peaceful, tranquil sort of place, full of Yorkshire men

and Yorkshire women, Yorkshire folk, who are a particular type of people.

They've got particular attitudes and outlooks on life just as different regions in all countries have

their own flavour, their own feel of the people that live there. Yes.

And Yorkshire people are sort of renowned for being,

very outspoken, about what they think. Yeah.

They're also very, let's say, they are very, what I was going to say mean, but that's the wrong word.

Well, that's not the word that money have.

They like to look after their money?

Okay, Steve, they like a bargain. That is not true.

It is true because they say the same thing about the Scottish people. Well, that is true. Okay.

They do say that about Yorkshire people.

They do like a bargain.

They do like to look after them. Money. Okay, Steve, before we offend offending anyone.

Before we offend

most of our viewers watching in the UK, especially the ones watching in Yorkshire, probably nobody.

They okay, it's the Euro.

Well that's that's a great attitude to have today. There is no one watching in Yorkshire.

I think there is.

Is there anyone watching in Yorkshire?

We met a lot of people. That's why in Yorkshire we had a lovely time.

I would say that Yorkshire people are very honest.

See, that's what you should have said, Steve, honest with their feelings and their opinion.

I think I did say that and they will.

I'm not sure.

Not sure if you did

tight fisted and mean with their money.

No, I didn't say that.

I just said that they are very careful with their money.

Yeah, I don't like to spend it unwisely. Anyway, that's the reputation.

So I think, I think people in the North, especially Yorkshire, and I think, I think we don't use this.

A lot of people just said what they thought or what they felt and, and they also, I would say very friendly as well.

I think people in Yorkshire are incredibly friendly.

We spoke to so many people just randomly whilst we were walking around, so that is the positive thing.

I will say we are talking about honesty today, Mr.

Steve as well, so that sort of ties in with today's subject.

So we did a lot of driving and I was talking about your driving.

Mr.. Steve, I was saying that you are a good driver,

but sometimes

you get a little bit angry, but and this is a compliment, by the way, I'm paying you a compliment, Mr.

Steve. Believe it or not.

Not once did Mr.

Steve lose his temper on the road.

He was calm for all of the miles we were travelling.

So give us, give us a rough idea of how many miles we've driven this week.

So in total, we drove, about 500 miles, which I think it's

probably 500 miles, probably 900km, something like that.

Eight 900km. I don't know the exact conversion.

Which two?

Now, let's get things in perspective here.

To us, that's a long way. Yes.

So on the way back, our furthest point North,

we had to drive 180 miles back.

It's probably about 300km, something like that.

Now, to a lot of people in who live in bigger countries, that might seem like a very small task.

Because but you've only got to remember about the UK is that it's not very big.

England, Scotland and Wales together are not very big.

So in fact I tell you I'll give you some details here because I looked it up. Oh to refresh my memory.

So the total length of of the UK from the top of Scotland to the bottom of England is 600 miles, which is 1000km.

That's crazy

to us.

That's a lot. No, no, that that's all it is.

That's all it is. Six.

So from I would imagine that is from John O'Groats to Land's End to Land's End.

So it's just 600 miles.

That's as the crow flies, as we say. That's a straight distance measured on a map.

That is incredible.

If you were to drive it, of course, you can't go in a straight line.

So to drive it, you're going to have to drive 874 miles because obviously the roads go.

Don't go straight from that point to another, which is about 1400km.

I think the top from the northernmost point to the southernmost point.

So of course, if you're driving because you have to go around all of the landmarks in the hills,

you do, you do eventually travel much further than that, but directly only I find that I still find that incredible.

So if you've ever wondered how small

Britain is from end to end.

Yes. 600 miles as the.

Yeah. You know, the geographic distance. Yes. That's it.

But that's still amazing.

I know some very small country point to point.

Although we've done a lot in the hundreds of years we've been around, despite our size.

But yeah. So. Yeah.

And so that is to a lot of people, I mean, it's, you know, Texas is is twice the size of, of the UK in total.

Just one state. Yeah.

In, in America, that shows you, I mean, you can fly from one end to the other in less than an hour.

Easily.

And of course, these days, Steve, it's become very popular to fly from city to city here in the UK because,

well first of all it's quicker and also it's cheaper as well.

Right.

There we go.

Oh Italy according to Christina here is 1200 kilowatt kilometres.

So. Oh about the same size then similar but bigger,

width wise if you're talking about the width from east to west, it's 300 miles or 500km,

but to drive it, it's going to be around 390 miles or around 630km means particularly east to west.

The roads go all over the place.

And we don't have we do have some, some good motorway networks, but we don't have one motorway going from north to south.

Yeah.

Well, one of the things I noticed as we went towards Yorkshire, there were fewer roads for us to choose from and that is quite interesting.

But the one thing we did notice was how amazing the roads are as we went into Yorkshire with that.

It was, it was absolutely wonderful.

We didn't see any damaged roads, we didn't see any potholes, no bumps.

It was absolutely amazing.

So I would say that Yorkshire really does take good care of their roads, the roads, because it's flatter,

in a lot of parts of Yorkshire compared to where we are, it's quite hilly and in a lot of parts of Yorkshire

that you can't build roads because of the,

the moors and the topography.

So the roads are very open and sweeping roads you can see miles ahead.

Whereas in, in this part of the world where we live in Shropshire, in the West Midlands,

it's you can't really see that far ahead because the roads are up and down.

Whereas in Yorkshire you notice that, in fact it was a bit disconcerting.

I found it a bit disconcerting

driving on some of the roads, because coming to a brow of a hill and then seeing miles and miles of road ahead.

Yes, it's, you know, made me feel a little

uncomfortable because they're not used to that in this part of the UK where we live.

Well, Steve, let's have a look very quickly.

So this is a brief excerpt from a video we are going to show later.

When we took one of our trips to where we went to the coast, we went to Whitby.

So this gives you an idea of just what it's like driving on the Yorkshire roads.

And there is Mr. Steve behind the wheel, looking very calm, driving along.

But in a moment you will see just how dramatic the landscape is as you're driving along.

Look at this. Look how come I am the look

and there it is.

So you will see the landscape suddenly reveal itself as you were driving along.

It looks as if the whole area is flat and then suddenly

the landscape opens up.

Look at that.

So there it is. There is Yorkshire.

Isn't that incredible, Steve?

It is.

And all that, dark vegetation you can see on the left.

On the right is Heather.

And that blooms a lovely purple colour in the summer.

So we weren't able to see that, while we were there because obviously it's March at the moment. Yes.

So, Beatrice says it is 3600km from north to south of Argentina.

So you can see just how small the UK actually is compared to most of the countries France is.

It's got at least twice the landmass.

France is huge that we do. Yeah.

France with the same number of people. So they're spread out a lot more.

But yeah, it was so we actually drove in terms of the total amount to drive, we probably drove

on the way back about a quarter of the total length.

You could you could drive from top to bottom in the UK. Yes.

So that's using the actual road system, using the road system.

And it's not you know, you have to keep changing motorways in the UK.

I mean just for us to get to travel those 186 miles back home,

we probably had to go on 3 or 4 different motorway networks, criss crossing roundabouts.

Coming off, it wasn't, I think, the longest period on one road was about 70 miles.

That was the end. Was that the M1? I think that might have been the I don't think it was.

It might have been,

but yeah, the road, because it's a small country, the roads are not as straight as they are in bigger countries. But,

we we did enjoy it.

I'm just having out.

I don't know what colour it's coming across to you, but it's like a bright red, very bright, like Mr.

Duncan's red hat.

I wasn't expecting to see Mr. Steve in red, but it does look good.

So we've done in total 500 miles.

But one of the things we hate doing here in the UK is driving long distances, even though compared to other countries.

And now I'm going to mention China because I've lived there travelling from one city to another city in China can take up to

20 hours driving.

That is mind blowing and that is driving non-stop

around 20 20 hours.

So for example, if you went from the place I was living in, in, in, in Mongolia, I mean, if you wanted to go to somewhere

like Beijing, it would take around 14 hours driving on the road, 14 hours to go from where, Mr.

Duncan?

Well, from where I was staying in Balto to Beijing is around 14 hours driving.

Yes, it would take about that. Must have been about 800.

And that must have been about the same distance as from, the north of Scotland to,

the south, because it takes about 14 hours, apparently, to drive from Scotland all the way down to the south coast.

But that's just hopping from one city to another. Exactly.

That's incredible.

Whereas that's the total length of the UK. But yeah, it's, where you had some fun.

I stayed calm, Mr.

Duncan, because, well, one that the, the, behaviour of the drivers in Yorkshire was very, very good.

The quality of driving, nobody was really.

We didn't see any lunatic drivers. Everyone was quite calm on the road.

Whereas in the West Midlands, near where we live, there's a lot of very stupid drivers,

aggressive drivers, which we definitely didn't get.

When we were in Yorkshire, I didn't see any bad driving at all,

which was very pleasing, but I think it's because the roads are very open and the stress is less.

This is what driving in the UK is a bit stressful because

quite often, because there's lots of traffic

all the time on most of the roads, and it's there's not an easy route from one place to another if you want to go a long distance.

I think. So.

So you've got to be constantly thinking about where you're going to go next and the traffic everywhere.

Anyway, we enjoyed it. That's the main thing.

I think people are just also in the rush that they're rushing to get somewhere,

and then if you are in a hurry, you tend to be more careless.

And we did notice the nearer the nearer we we got to to the West Midlands, the more crazy the drivers seem to get.

Yes we did, we did notice that. We did notice

when you get to the big cities, everyone's a bit more.

They're either drinking lots of coffee.

Yeah. Or they're in a rush to get somewhere. Yes, quite often

we weren't.

Yeah, we took a break.

Of course, after a couple of hours, it took us four hours to drive back for.

Well, actually, 4.5 hours, but we took a break of about 45 minutes

just to get some, sustenance, as we say, which is to drink and something to eat.

Now, looking at the places where we went, here is one place.

This is the first place we stopped off at Harrogate.

A wonderful place I've never been this far north.

Certainly I've never been this far into North Yorkshire ever in my whole life.

So it was interesting to see Harrogate, a lovely town, very close to the city of York, but rather nice.

And we were lucky as well because the weather was absolutely fantastic.

We had the most glorious sunshine and there you can see a photograph I took.

So this is a glimpse of Harrogate, a very lovely place.

Lots of beautiful old buildings, wide open spaces, lots of beautiful parkland.

And Harrogate is also famous for this place.

Betty's tearoom.

I didn't go there in the end for very good reason, and you will see in a moment why I didn't go there.

Because you have to queue outside.

People have to wait outside in the street to, to to actually have a cup of tea in Betty's tea room.

So you can see just how busy it was. Also notable people,

Lord Byron,

of course he has a walkway named after him,

so there are lots of people who have stayed here, including the Beatles.

Apparently the Beatles once stayed in Harrogate, believe it or not, and you can really see some of the old buildings.

You really get a sense of of what Harrogate was like.

And there is where we actually stayed.

And you can see that the old buildings there very grand buildings and this is one of the,

I suppose you would say it's one of the signatures of Harrogate, the lovely old buildings.

And there is the old Victorian pumping station, and they used to pump all of the mineral water from beneath the ground.

And as I said, lots of lovely parks to walk around as well.

Now Mr.

Steve didn't get much chance to explore Harrogate, but I did, and I have to say it was a lovely experience

and we were rather lucky as well.

Steve, weren't we, because we had the most amazing weather we did.

It was glorious sunshine. It was cold but it was glorious sunshine.

Lewis, by the way, has said, that he used to drive in his job, 60 to 70,000km a year.

That's a long way. It's a lot. That's probably around 50,000 miles.

I do around 20, 24,000 miles a year, which is probably about 35,000km, something like that.

Which is unusual.

Most people do a lot less than that.

But of course, my job involves a lot of driving.

So hence and people are asking questions as well about driving in the cities.

Catarina says, I'd like to see you drive in a rush hour.

In Rome.

Yeah.

Well, I have driven I do drive used to drive in the rush hour in Birmingham and, which is the second biggest city in Wolverhampton?

London.

Then a little bit of driving in London. Not very much.

I'll tell you what.

I definitely would not like to drive either or either,

is around the arc de Triomphe in Paris. Yes.

Because there's no lanes at all.

I'm sure Louis has driven around that particular island,

around the arc de Triomphe many, many times in his career.

And I think you have to sort of. There aren't any lanes marking it out.

No, it's just sort of, it's like it's like a racing track with lots of cars or just randomly going around and around.

Talking of which, by the way, we have the Paris rendezvous coming up this year.

We will be in Paris again, and we will be meeting up on the 1st of June for the big Paris rendezvous.

So perhaps, maybe, Mr..

Steve, if you are feeling brave enough, perhaps you can hire a car and drive around and see how many times we have to go around.

Yeah, somebody asked you, how would I feel about driving on the right hand side of the road?

Which of course is what? It's the whole of Europe, I think. Drive on the right, we drive on the left.

And I have driven on the other side of the road when we've been on holidays before.

Not in big cities, though, only when we've been when we went to Turkey, I think I hired a car there,

though maybe not in Greece.

Certainly the place where we drove was Madeira and Madeira.

And they drive on the right hand side and there's not much traffic there. So I was quite happy.

I don't think my father used to, we used to go on driving holidays from the UK to Paris, to, France and Spain.

And my father used to drive all the way through Europe, to take us on holiday, which is a popular thing to do in the 1970s.

But he put a big JB sticker on the back of your car and take a ferry across to Calais

and then drive through France and wherever you want to go was a very popular thing to do.

Yeah.

And then in the 70s, well, because we now have the the train that goes under the English Channel that lots of people

go in their cars and also they take the caravans and their mobile homes.

So, so it is an incredibly popular thing, but yes, I've seen Mr.

Steve drive on the opposite side of the road and he's very good at it.

No problems there.

I'm sure I'd want to do it now, but, Never mind. Well, maybe one day I'll have another go.

So as I mentioned a few moments ago, we we have been away this week.

We've been doing all sorts of things.

We went to an interesting place called Pickering.

Pickering,

Well, you might notice in a moment you might see Mr. Steve in a few seconds.

That was Mr. Steve coming up the steps.

And we visited the place in Pickering, the local railway station.

But this is a special railway railway station because this one is steam

railway. I was pretending to trip up there. Okay, good.

So we are in Pickering at the the steam railway,

and we were waiting for the arrival of a very special steam train, which you will see in a couple of moments for now.

But there you can see it is very typical of the type of old railway station, and lots of railway enthusiasts were also there as well.

Some people were selling all sorts of things and here it comes, Mr. Steve.

Here comes the big train. This is what everyone was waiting for.

So we will enjoy the arrival.

And there is nothing better than the sound of steam.

Yeah, so let's move.

I was just enjoying the steam sound. Steam?

It's not amazing.

Look at that.

Sir Nigel Gristly is the name of that train.

And he was actually the guy who. Who designed

not only that type of train that you just saw, but also the Flying Scotsman as well.

It is named after him, but it's not amazing.

You can see all the steam coming out of the pipes.

So this is an old steam railway.

This isn't this isn't the type of,

station that you would catch a normal train.

We think we don't have steam trains anymore.

Just to point out we don't. This is this is an old steam railway which has been,

maintained for,

people to enjoy.

Yeah, it's well, it's, it's it's being preserved. It is a little bit of history.

Transport history.

And it is amazing that that particular place is run by volunteers.

And they have to raise all of the money not only to maintain the stations, but also the trains as well.

And that was the most amazing experience.

I don't know why there is nothing more exciting than

being close to a steam train.

It was so noisy.

Yeah, I know it sounds silly to say that, but I mean, I haven't seen seen a steam train for a long time and I couldn't.

I had forgotten just how noisy they are.

Being close to one is quite an amazing experience.

And there he is. Over there it is.

Mr. Steve, we've had a very busy week.

I can't begin to tell you just how busy we have been this week.

We've.

We went all the way to North Yorkshire a very long way.

We, we did 500 miles in the car and not once,

not one time did Mr.

Steve lose his temper because most drivers were very good and, we weren't in a rush.

Do you? Somebody said earlier about driving they were learning to drive and,

and also somebody else mentioned this how to deal with road rage.

Well, I had to give a presentation at work to my work colleagues recently about road safety because that's something I'm interested in.

And something I used to do at the last company.

A lot of us at work, of course, do a lot of driving for work.

So that puts us at risk of, of having an accident and road rage came up.

It was something we discussed.

How do you, react if somebody does something and you feel yourself getting very angry

and you feel like shaking a fist, shouting out of the window, chasing them down the road,

or whatever you want to do, because it's.

You can easily get very angry.

I'm sure.

Lewis, learnt over his many years of driving how to control your emotions.

Because that's what you have to learn to do. Yes, when you're driving.

So as you don't get yourself into trouble, one of the tricks that,

that that people say it's good to do is one, when you go out, don't go out.

If you're in a rush,

always allow yourself plenty of time.

Because if you're in a rush, if you're in an emotional,

emotionally heightened state, then you're more likely to react to other road drivers.

So be relaxed when you go out.

And the other thing is, if something does happen to you, feel yourself getting angry.

Take a deep breath and count to ten.

That sometimes works quite well.

And just stopping that stress response from taking over.

Yes, now I would be very interested to hear from anybody else how they control their emotions on the road.

Lewis, perhaps would, as a professional driver would have, learnt how to do that.

Or maybe his personality is not to react anyway.

But, yeah, I'm the sort of person who can react very quickly.

So I have to use methods like counting.

Sometimes I pull over if someone's behind me tailgating me. Yes.

You know, trying to push me along so that there nobody driving too close to you.

Driving too close with what we call tailgating.

I will often. So in the old days, I would say I'm not going to let them pass. They're not getting by me.

But now I just pull over and let them by.

Because what I always say about road rage is if something like that starts, you don't know how it will end.

And I always think that is the problem.

If you look on the internet, you will see lots of videos of people

involved in

road rage incidents, and quite often it doesn't turn out very well.

It can be a rather horrible experience. Steve.

We have a lot to get through so I want to show something else now if I can.

We went along to the coast in North Yorkshire.

We had the most amazing time.

I've shown this already, but you will see the whole video right now of our adventure.

When we went to Whitby.

So we saw Mr. Steve driving calmly in the car.

No road rage whatsoever. No he was.

This is what Mr. Steve looks like when he's driving.

He's so calm and

looking out to the front of the car you can see ahead.

There is literally nothing ahead.

This everyone is Yorkshire.

This. This is basically what people see when they go to Yorkshire.

And it's also one of the reasons why lots of people enjoy going to Yorkshire, because there is not much around.

So we are heading towards a place called Whitby on the coast. It's

a fishing town

but also a very popular destination for for those who wish to get away from their daily life.

And in the moment you will see it.

As we arrive in Whitby

and we also went on to the beach as well.

We went on to the beach and we saw something rather amazing, and you will see it in a few moments from now.

Christina. Don't go and Mr.. Don't go. It's okay. Steve.

Christina says I like driving at night. I find it more relaxing.

I'm the same. Christina.

I like driving at night.

In fact, we drove up to Harrogate, when it was dark. There was hardly.

The traffic is less.

You can see other cars coming.

It is. It's more relaxing, I think, because there's less cars on the road. Yes.

And that's that's what I like. So yeah, it is more relaxing. I don't know why that is.

I think it is because there's less cars on the drive.

Looking at the moment, if you look in the distance you can see there is something rather interesting,

a rather unusual looking building that is one of the early warning radars

that are positioned high up in Yorkshire, and they are there to spot any incoming nuclear weapons.

I'm not joking.

So they are there, they monitor the skies and they can see way, way into the distance.

Talking of which,

in a moment we will be looking way into the distance.

And this is Whitby, Mr.. Steve, this is the place.

This is the seaside, the the common seaside resort on the on the east coast of the UK,

which, is, is looking at onto the North Sea.

That's obviously they look at that Mr. Duncan,

that is a you can go on that boat for a little boat trip out into the ocean.

This is the harbour, obviously, the sheltered area, where the where ships can, can be protected from the, the bad weather, the sea.

Look at that view.

So there you can see the harbour with some of the boats, all sizes.

And there is the view from the top by the old abbey looking down across the bay.

An amazing view. There is also a cemetery up there as well.

And that is where the ships will come in and go out to keep everything safe and secure.

So that will take you out. And I would imagine that is the North Sea.

That is the North Sea. Mr. Duncan,

You have to climb nearly 200 steps, don't you, Steve? You do.

And there is the famous Abbey.

And Steve, you told us something very interesting about this place, didn't you?

Yes, sir. This this is a ruined abbey. Ruined?

So most of it's fallen down.

And, that was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's book Dracula.

He stayed there.

And, and then went up to see this abbey and was inspired because it looks spooky.

Inspired to write Dracula.

It does look very gothic, very gothic.

And at night, I would imagine it's quite creepy.

Yeah,

I would, I would definitely not want to spend the night at there. Not.

And also that there is there's a cemetery at the top and this is the real fun we had Steve,

we were on the beach and suddenly all these tractors appeared and they started racing around on the beach

and we couldn't work out what was going on.

And they started zooming around across the sand.

And I was surprised just how fast tractors can travel.

And at one point they got quite close to us, didn't they?

They did, they got very close to Mr. Duncan, as you will see in a minute.

We went for some reason, we happened to be standing in the middle of where they wanted to do this.

Driving around, they didn't seem to care that we were stuck, but little of what they were doing.

So we didn't expect to see this.

This just happened to be there when we arrived.

And you will notice in a minute

one of the tractors comes right by that.

In fact, I think he was aiming for me.

Watch this any second now.

I think any of you got swept away.

I can tell you now. I got I nearly got squashed by a tractor.

So that was going on on the beach. It was also freezing cold.

Can I also mention the fact that it was freezing cold on the beach?

And that is what was happening later?

It looks like they are playing a tug of war.

It was.

We don't know quite what was going on.

We just happened to be there at the time, though, it was being filmed for television.

So we think it was something to do with, old tractors,

because some of those tractors were over 100 years old, apparently. Yeah.

So they were just doing it to promote something, I would imagine.

And we just happened to be there at the time.

In fact, a lady came over, ran over.

She was in a yellow vest. She was from the production company, from the production company.

And, and asked us to move.

I think she was a bit scared that we were we were there. We were we were very close to the action

and I have to say, close to the action.

So that was our adventure in Whitby, a wonderful place and some very scenic views.

I have to say, I was I was so surprised at how beautiful the view actually was at the top.

Sartori now says, I can see you have a Mercedes. What about your Ford Mustang?

Well, yes.

Well, well, well, that that particular car I've got is seven years old now.

It's done.

I would say about 130,000km in total now, and it's proved to be very reliable.

Touchwood. So I've kept it.

It was an ex company car that I bought when I left.

Got made redundant from my last job.

I decided to buy it because I knew its history, and its proved very reliable.

Now we got all the way

to, we did our 500 miles, Mr.

Duncan, did we not? On less than one full tank of fuel.

This is amazing.

Which I was determined to do. Yeah, because this is one of your things, isn't it, Steve?

Let me just shine. Yes.

If you ever drive anywhere with Mr.

Steve, you will notice that he's always talking about how many miles to the gallon you can get in the car.

And you were.

We were able to drive all the way there and all the way back without having to fill the car with any petrol, I know.

So, yes.

So if I fill up the tank with fuel, it will do absolute maximum 600 miles before it needs refuelling.

So I was determined that we were going to go all the way there and back on one tank of fuel. Yes.

And we did with 100 miles left in the tank. So what what was the average then?

So we averaged 50 miles per gallon. That's incredible.

Now they measured that fit.

I don't know what that is converted because in Europe they measure litres per kilometre.

Well we don't we don't. We'll just stick with the gallon.

So you couldn't convert that 50 miles per gallon and convert it to whatever you in your country, whatever you measure.

This is almost like an advertisement for Mercedes cars, because in fact, that is actually quite amazing.

I was quite,

pleased at having achieved that.

It's something I know it sounds stupid, but that's something I like to do when I'm in the car, see how far I can go on on a tank of fuel.

It's a little game I play with myself, as when driving.

By the way, an abbey.

It's ab e y.

Somebody mentioned that earlier.

I think it was English teacher.

Now, somebody mentioned what is an abbey? I, can't remember who said that.

Now, Abbey VI, it's an old,

Well, it would have been, it would have been for monks.

Yeah, it's an old monastery. An old monastery.

So an abbey, religious building, many of the monasteries, many of the Cluny at monks came to to England.

And there were many, many old monasteries with the abbey.

The abbey is the main place where the monks would congregate and gather.

And over the years they they became well.

A lot of them, of course, were destroyed.

After Henry the Eighth decided that he didn't want them anymore.

So he he did have them all closed down, and many of them were destroyed. Yeah.

So that's one of the reasons why many abbeys in England are actually ruins.

So many of them would probably be in a very good condition.

But because of Henry the Eighth, you can blame him for that.

For the he was trying to take the power away from the church,

so he destroyed a lot of the monasteries where and of course, they had a lot of power.

So he destroyed them back in the day. I can't remember,

but he was around. So that was, that was the, the, the.

So that is what an abbey is.

And that's what the, the abbey at the top of the hill was to restore.

It would cost a great deal of money. Somebody mentioned earlier why isn't it restored?

It would be an astronomical sum of money to restore it now. Yeah.

Well, I don't know where they got the money from to build them in the first place.

There is a point.

There is a point, Steve, where

a building, once it becomes derelict, once it starts to fall down, there is a point where you can't bring it back.

Unfortunate. So that is one of the reasons why.

And there are lots of abbeys, ruined abbeys around England to look at.

And we have one here in Much Wenlock. Yes.

But as we said, Henry the Eighth destroyed a lot of them,

deliberately to take the power away from the church at the time.

And, so that's what we've got left.

And to restore them would cost an absolute fortune. So,

because they would have taken decades, if not decades and decades to build in the first place.

A lot of manpower, and they couldn't be restored with that huge sums of money. Yes.

In fact, I would say it's an impossible task.

We were in Yorkshire, and this is what it looks like, by the way.

We did take some lovely shops.

We stopped the car and we got out the car and had a look and that that is a typical view over the Yorkshire hills, the Yorkshire Moors.

And you can see there is nothing around at all to disturb.

The word is desolate.

Yeah, it's a very desolate area and in winter it is, because it's flat and exposed to the, the North Sea,

it becomes a very difficult place to, to live.

And there's no houses, as you can see, because it's just two.

It would be very uncomfortable to live there, the weather. Would you be cut off?

And there the moors, what they call the moors, and all that black, blackness you can see on the hills, as I mentioned before, is Heather,

because Heather is a very tough plant, and it can grow in extreme conditions of heat and also of cold in many places.

That's all there is in many places that that's all it grows there because it's the only plant that can survive.

Well, whilst we were in Pickering, we did notice something rather interesting.

And this is something I'm asked quite often.

Mr. Duncan, can you carry a gun in England?

Well, the answer to that is.

Well, I suppose the answer is yes and no, because in Pickering they have on their high street

a gun shop.

So you can actually.

Oh, I think this man here, he's interested, he wants to think he wants to do something.

Maybe, maybe his wife has been annoying him.

He's thinking, oh, I think I'm going to buy a gun so you can buy guns.

But the the laws in the UK are very strict, very strict.

You can't just go into a shop and buy a gun.

You have to fill out lots of form forms and you have to make sure that, well, you have to have a doctor's approval as well.

So they're in the window of the shop.

You can see there is a gun for sale, £120.

Mr.. Steve, and that's a cheap one.

What I love is there are over 250 guns from £89.

You can buy a gun for £89, Mr. Steve, that's amazing. I don't think they would let you.

I buy a gun.

I think, it's hard to buy a gun in the UK.

You have to be a farmer.

You can buy them for, for sporting events.

But in order to hold one in your house, you have to, in order to be able to.

But you can't just go into a shop and buy a gun. Let's make that clear. Yes.

You cannot go into a gun in the UK. You can't go into a shop and buy a gun.

You have to,

only certain professions are allowed to do it.

Mostly farmers, mostly farmers and hunters.

Yes. If you and you have to have a licence, you have to have several psychological tests

for the doctors to say that, you know, you're safe to have one. Yeah.

I do like that.

I do love that guy.

That that man, he's looking in the window.

He's really interested in those guns. He's thinking to himself.

Yeah, I think next week I'm going to, visit that shop and get myself a gun.

There, you can buy a new gun from there.

Anarchy.

But, it's very unusual to see a gun shop.

It is in the UK very, very unusual.

It is very strange to see a gun shop in the UK.

You don't normally see them, to be honest.

And I would imagine that the shop owner, in order to keep guns on the premises, he must have to have some very, very secure,

ways securing those against theft. Yes, because it would be.

Maybe they don't keep the guns on the premises

or they don't keep the ammunition there or something, because you would imagine that would be a target for, for a criminal.

Yes, I would imagine so.

There must be some very strict laws around having a shop like that.

Well, I, I know, I know that in this country you've got to keep them in a, not just a secure place,

but in certain types of cupboards or certain types of lockers or something that's completely hidden away.

So, so they can't just be found.

But unlike the United States, where guns are readily available, you can't just go into a shop and buy one.

I think there is a period of time that you have to wait anyway, and you have to get all sorts of documents.

As Steve said, normally from a doctor or a psychiatrist, just to make sure

that you are not going to go out and do anything silly with your big gun.

So we did see a lot of things during our trip to Yorkshire.

I wasn't expecting so many things to happen, to be honest.

Mr. Steve.

I was not expecting to see all those things.

We were quite lucky, I think I yes and also the weather was amazing as well.

We were so lucky with the weather.

I can't begin to tell you how pleased we felt and we did eat lots of food.

Of course we did too much.

We ate too much food. We had a big breakfast yesterday.

We had something for lunch and then last night on the way back home, we stopped off

for a break

and we had KFC.

So all I can say is today I'm not going to eat much food.

I will be honest with you, I won't be eating much food at all.

And normally on the way there is, there is a character or a group of characters helping that story to come to a happy ending.

So yes, Sleeping Beauty, it's basically Wicked witch, beautiful girl.

She is the prettiest girl in the land.

The Wicked Witch is very jealous, wants to trap Snow White

by giving her a poisoned apple which will make her go to sleep forever and ever.

Fortunately, it doesn't kill her, it just makes her very, very sleepy.

And then, of course, there are some some lovely little characters, the Seven Dwarfs, Mr.

Steve, I'm not even sure if we can say that I'm.

I might actually be cancelled just for saying that.

But there is a new version. Most people think of the Walt Disney version. I don't know, they do.

It's like, it's coming back now.

Is it the one where the Prince Charming, kisses Snow White comes back to life?

But in the new movie, in the new movie that's just come out, there is no Prince Charming.

There is no handsome prince. He is not. Okay. I'm going to watch that. Yes.

And the one that always confused me was doc, I don't.

It doesn't really fit in because you can't feel doc, so I would imagine he is like the professor.

And then of course you can. You can feel sneezy

and you can be dopey.

And finally, of course, as I mentioned earlier, you can also feel happy.

And I can tell you now, happy does not mind.

He's more than willing for the natural people.

The same as introvert? Kind of. Yes. Kind of. Yes.

A bashful person could certainly be described as introvert.

Somebody who's shy, shy doesn't doesn't want to be heard, doesn't want to be seen.

Probably would be an introverted person.

Mr.. Steve, we've just come from the north of England, and you mentioned at the start of today's live

stream is certainly when we first joined each other today, we talked about being honest.

And one thing I've noticed, one thing I did notice that in the North, especially in Yorkshire, we noticed a lot of people were very open

and honest about their thoughts and their feelings, and they would also be quite friendly and warm with, with their personalities.

And I think you would agree with that direct.

They got a very direct way of speaking. So if

they won't, hold back generally as a stereotype,

but also, as with all stereotypes with people or groups of people, there is always an element of truth in it.

So yes, we did find it's always there's always a risk that you go to Yorkshire

knowing that there is this stereotype of a typical Yorkshire person, and then you sort of look for it.

Rather than observe it,

from a point of view of being unbiased.

But I think generally I think maybe that was a true characteristic. Yes.

Well, well, we certainly noticed the difference. And people were more, more open and friendly.

So you could start a conversation with just somebody you didn't even know in, and they would chat

and they would make you feel very welcome, to be honest, is to show or express one's

real feelings or truth as that particular individual sees it.

So quite often, being honest, we often think of honesty is being something that is about truth, not lying.

So to be honest is to is to say what you feel or what the facts are.

You are being honest.

So in certain cases we might say that honesty, being honest is just being yourself, being your true self.

And that is what I noticed when we went to Yorkshire.

A lot of people had that very similar characteristic, and there are some words we can use to describe a person who is being honest.

We can say they are truthful,

we can say they are open and open.

Person is a person who is not afraid to express themselves.

They are not afraid to speak to other people, maybe strangers even who they don't know.

Blunt.

Now there is an interesting word blunt.

To be blunt, Mr. Steve.

Yes, to be blunt means that, you just say something without worrying what the other person will think, and,

for example, if you came across somebody in a I don't know, it was where

normally people won't comment on people's appearance too much because you don't want to offend.

But, if you were being blunt, you would you would just you wouldn't.

You wanted to give some news or some information and you wouldn't try and go around the houses.

You wouldn't try and,

what's the word I'm looking for?

You would just state the facts.

You state the facts as they are without trying to to soften or to sugarcoat that particular thing.

So there is a great expression to sugarcoat something.

Yes to is to, to to to cover up the seriousness or the harshness of something. Yes.

But if you are blunt, you you just say it.

Do you do you like my new dress?

I bought this in the sales.

Now a person might say, I love your new dress. It's very nice.

Even though it looks terrible.

However, you might ask another person and they will be blunt.

They will say that dress is awful.

Where did you buy that dress?

It just does not suit you.

The colour is wrong.

The design is terrible. It makes you look large and out of shape.

Your body looks weird in that dress.

And then after the person has finished slapping you in the face, you at least can say you were honest.

You gave your true opinion.

Yes, somebody has got a new hairstyle, for example, and they say to you, what do you think of my new hairstyle?

And you say, it's horrible. I don't like it.

It doesn't suit you.

Somebody might say, might be offended, but you would be acting in a blunt way.

So if it if you, if somebody had died, you might ask somebody, oh how how's

John or how is whoever somebody's been ill and somebody might say, oh, they're dead.

Instead of saying, well there that, that, you know, the it was a long period of time.

They're not trying.

They were ill for a while. And then, you know, they won't sugarcoat. They won't

try and give

more information to soften the information down, just so to to actually soften the impact.

You might say something else to make it seem less serious.

Yes, a blunt person will just say it.

Inaki. A blunt person can offend.

If they're too blunt about things.

Yes, you're right, there are situations where maybe being honest might not be a good idea.

Yeah, of course we can say that a person does not hold back. They don't hold back.

A person who might give their honest opinion of something or maybe something from the news, something that's being reported in the news.

They might have their honest opinion.

So they are not pretending to think in a certain way.

They just say what they think. They don't hold back.

They wouldn't make very good diplomats.

No, a blunt person would not should not seek a profession as being a diplomat.

And of course, what you feel

you are saying, what you feel you are expressing yourself openly and honestly.

And of course, the final one.

This is something that you will hear a lot of people say, especially if they are the type of person who does not hold back.

They say what they think.

They often

use the phrase, they say it as it is.

If you say it as it is, it means you are giving your honest opinion.

Or as you see something in reality, you say it as it is.

By the way, Emily Blunt, that's just, Alexander, that's just somebody's name.

Blunt is just somebody's surname. In that case, it doesn't mean that they are blunt.

That is an that is a surname that some people have in the UK.

Yeah.

Where it comes from, I don't know,

but it certainly won't have any relevance to being a blunt person,

not having that behaviour that just happens to be this surname, which could have been derived from something hundreds of years ago,

which we don't know, that all that also applies to anyone whose surname is Fiddler as well.

Lots of people.

Surnames, of course, are derived from professions that, their families would have had, in the past.

Smith is a very common surname. Smith.

A smithy is somebody that would, would be making things out of iron.

And that was a very popular, profession hundreds of years ago.

So lots of people have the surname Smith, but that doesn't.

Just because you've got, doesn't mean they're still, making,

making, shoe horses.

No, they're just the forces that descendants of that particular family. Yes.

Maybe you hear two people talking about something and you misinterpret what they are saying.

You think they are saying something bad or serious and you understand that thing in the wrong way.

You get the wrong end of the stick.

You grab or get hold of the wrong end of the stick.

That means you misunderstand the thing you've heard.

You misinterpret that thing, possibly because you don't hear all the conversation.

It's often used

a lot in comedy, in films, where a sentence is

some dialogue takes place and somebody is listening in, but they don't hear the beginning of the conversation or they can't.

There's no visual clues as to what's happening, and they get the wrong end of the stick.

So quite often in in comedy situations, people might be overhearing a conversation

and they might think two people are having an affair, but they're not.

When they go in there, they're playing a game of

chess or something.

But because of the words that use, you know, you know what?

I would love to be in that situation where somebody's talking about a game of chess could actually lead you

to believe that there is an affair taking place.

So maybe you are taking someone's queen and another person might be taking your king, and they might think that means something else.

Yes. That's good. No, that's okay. Steve, I think that's that's that's fine.

And you might say that to somebody. You might be explaining something to somebody. And for example,

at the

beginning I started talking about what I perceived as a certain behaviours of Yorkshire people.

And, you might have interpreted that as meaning that I didn't like Yorkshire people at all.

Because I was saying that they were, they liked to look after their money.

They were quite blunt.

And then you might say, oh so you didn't, you don't like Yorkshire people

and I, my response might be oh no, don't get the wrong end of the steak.

I do like Yorkshire pudding.

I'm just explaining what they're like.

I don't mean to say that I don't like them because of those behaviours.

So they.

You could get hold of the wrong end of the stick. Yes.

Barking up the wrong tree. Is that similar, Mr. Dan?

Normally that

is, if you are making an assumption towards another person, you are maybe accusing someone of doing something.

Or maybe so that is more a direct action.

To be barking up the wrong tree means that you are kind of making an assumption

that that is incorrect, but that could be just a general thing.

You see, a general thing.

But yes, I understand they are similar. Similar, not directly similar.

But yes, Mr. City, we have to have another one because we're going in a minute. Misinterpretation.

Very broad.

So you don't fully understand the situation. You get the wrong meaning.

It's what we would say. To jump the gun means to do something too soon.

You do something too quickly or before the moment was right.

You jump the gun, you go ahead before you should.

So maybe in a race, perhaps in a race, you start running before

you are supposed to. You. You have a full start.

They often call it a false start.

So jump the gun literally means to start something, to do something before you should.

You jump the gun, you do something sooner than you should.

You start doing it before you are supposed to.

It probably does come from from, sporting events, like the 100 metre sprint where somebody is going to

fire a gun,

to, as a signal for the runners to start.

If somebody goes before the gun goes, after which they often do to try and get an advantage, you can say that

they've jumped the gun, but that can also mean that doesn't have to be just literally in sort of sporting events.

It can be maybe at work, zero gathering for a meeting.

And as somebody starts talking about the, the subject you're going to talk about too early. Yes.

That you can say that they've jumped the gun.

They've spoken too quickly, too early,

about whatever it is you were going to talk about.

Or maybe.

Yeah, something, some information was going to be revealed and somebody started talking about it too soon.

You could say that they jumped the gun.

You might say in some senses or some cases,

that those two pitch idioms today were sort of connected in a way back there where they were kind of connected.

But I didn't intend that.

It was just a happy coincidence.
