Normally, in our day to day lives, we will go about our activities in a steady

and sometimes enthusiastic way.  

However, it is not always possible to put all your energy into what you are doing.  

Perhaps you have been busy over a long period of time

and your energy is starting to run out.

You are beginning to feel tired and worn out.  

To be worn out means to be  exhausted or unusable.  

A person can feel worn out or  an item can be worn out.

An item of clothing might become worn out  

due to it being used many times.  

A person who works too much will  eventually become tired and exhausted.

“I feel worn out today.”  

You are expressing the feeling of having no energy.

We can also use the word ‘exhausted’ when describing the storage of electricity,

or in this case, the lack of electricity in a certain thing such as a battery.

There is no power left in the battery.  

It is exhausted.  

You might say that there are some similarities  between the energy inside a person  

and the power contained within a battery.  

Of course, it is possible to replenish or restore the level of energy to what it was.

Sometimes it is possible to recharge a battery,  

just as it is possible to recharge yourself.  

Of course, the method of doing it is completely different for a human being.

A period of rest and relaxation is what is needed to give the body a chance to rebuild its energy.  

It is interesting to note that we can use similar words

when describing the methods of reviving  a battery, as we would a human being.  

When a person loses their energy, they become run down.

They become exhausted.

That person needs to recharge themselves  

by taking a break from the things that  are causing them to become tired.  

We might even say that we are going to take a holiday or a break, 

so as to recharge our batteries.  

Of course, in this situation  it is used figuratively.

So the next time you are feeling tired,  

perhaps you need to take a break and have a change of scenery.

You might be in need of a holiday or a  short break away from your usual routine.  

You need to recharge your batteries.
