Videos for upper-intermediate to advanced English learners

Hey, guys, what's up! Stefanie the English coach here from englishfulltime.com

welcome to my YouTube channel I finally am on YouTube can you guys believe it? I

know right well a lot of you guys were asking me to make YouTube videos and

some of you asked me like more than a year ago and I was always like no I

don't want to I'm not ready but as you know things change and you know better

late than never right so now I'm on YouTube and I'm ready to make videos for

you guys every week that will help you improve your fluency confidence and

communication skills in English so a lot of you will probably recognize me from

my Facebook page the English coach where I have been making live videos for over

a year to help intermediate and advanced English learners you know just really

become fluent confident English speakers that ultimately is my goal for you guys

so for those of you who don't know me or don't know much about me I'm gonna go

ahead and give you guys a little background on where I'm from who I am blah

blah blah so you guys can feel like you know me a little bit okay alright let's

go so I was born and raised in California

my parents are from Argentina they immigrated to the United States before I

was born and I have about six siblings so we are what you call first-generation

American okay I'm first generation American because my parents immigrated

to the US and that's where I was born now the interesting thing is that my

parents didn't teach us Spanish and as you guys probably know in Argentina

people speak Spanish and since my parents are from there they speak

Spanish etc but they didn't teach us because they were actually multilingual

and because they spoke so many languages German French English Spanish they just

decided that it would be easier to teach us kids just one language so that

language obviously was English because we were living in the United States then

when I was about 14 years old I had like this identity crisis because I realized

oh my gosh I don't speak the language that my ancestors speak or that the rest

of my family speaks and then it became like my goal in life to become a Spanish

so I started by doing an immersion program at my local high school and I

did three years in that program it was actually designed for native Spanish

speakers later in another video I'll tell you guys the story about how I

finagled my way into that class okay but I did three years in that immersion

program and then I studied Spanish in college I majored in it and then I went

abroad to study Spanish in Argentina and that's where I met my husband and then I

ended up living there with him for a few years or several years so anyhow that is

kind of like my story in a nutshell but you know beyond all of that I struggled

for years to become fluent and I struggled for even more years and still

struggle sometimes with my confidence in Spanish because I don't know about you

but I was a perfectionist my husband and I I'm gonna I have lots of stories for

you guys that I will tell you throughout all the videos on this YouTube channel

but my husband and I we are completely different when it comes to language

learning or at least we were completely different he didn't care about grammar

at all or vocabulary he would just try his hardest to communicate because when

we met he didn't really speak English like at all right now he's fluent and

then when I met him I already spoke Spanish you know I had studied the

grammar for years my vocabulary was great but I really struggled with my

confidence in speaking Spanish so he never struggled with confidence because

he didn't care if he messed up and I was basically the opposite so anyways long

story short he got fluent in English I got fluent in Spanish we're completely

different when it comes to language learning but I've also been working in

education for a long time so I have lots of things to teach you guys about

English and my methods are sometimes traditional sometimes they're not

traditional what I really want to do is just immerse you in this language so you

can hear a native speaker use English you know like a way a native speaker

uses English sometimes you're gonna see me do what I just did which is like sit

there and think about how to say something

because even if this is your native language or it's my native language you

might sometimes struggle to express yourself and I think it's important that

you guys see those mistakes so you know that it's quite normal when that happens

to you in English okay and so you don't beat yourself up every time you have to

sit there and think of how to explain something okay so anyways yes we're just

gonna use this YouTube channel to immerse you in English to talk about

lots of different aspects of language learning I have lots of stories to share

with you guys from our travels as a lot of you know we do quite a bit of

traveling as well so yeah I look forward to sharing everything with you and I'm

just gonna go ahead and wrap this video up before it gets way too long and this

about things that are actually important you know in English like your life your

goals things like that that's kind of one of the areas that I focus on because

that's why you're learning English I'm sure right to be able to reach your

personal and professional goals so anyways since I don't slow down when

I speak a lot of people like they're like slow down Stefanie you're too fast

I don't slow down because the people I work with are more advanced and they

understand me but if you want to hang around here and still watch my videos

that's called video speed controller and you can use it to slow down my videos so

I will put a link in the description I love I love this extension because you

can slow down videos so that you understand them more like videos in

English and I use this extension to actually speed videos up

like when I'm watching a tutorial I don't want to sit there for 10 minutes

learning how to do one thing I want to learn as fast as possible so it actually

doubles the rate at which you learn if you're watching something in your native

language so it's really cool I'll put it in the description and then yeah let me
