Seems like only yesterday my mother said to me,

Can you believe that was the first piece of sex advice I ever received?

I was 11 years old, growing up in Kenya,

and I believe this might have been my mother's way of trying to scare me

Instead, I became fascinated by sex.

Everything about this very taboo subject was so intriguing to me.

Nine years this year.

And true to her word,

But over time, I have found things to be far much uglier.

It took me a ton of therapy

to realize that my fixation with sex was due to a traumatized childhood.

See, I was sexually assaulted when I was eight years old.

And I never told anybody,

Men sexually assault women and girls on a massive rate in Kenya,
