. 이번 영상에서는

영어의 심각한 철자 실수에 대해

spelling mistake in English.

Among students, but also, among native speakers.

이야기하겠습니다 . 학생들 사이뿐만 아니라 원어민들 사이에서도요.

It's a difference between 'it's' meaning 'it is'.

'~이다'라는 뜻의 '~이다'와는 차이가 있습니다.

And 'its' being the possessive adjective.

그리고 '그것'은 소유격 형용사입니다.

Okay let's and take a few sentences and I'm sure you'll get it.

좋습니다. 몇 문장을 읽어보시면

이해하실 거라고 확신합니다.

So we have 'It's a sunny day'.

그래서

'맑은 날이다'라는 말이 있습니다 .

In this case 'it's' is the verb 'to be'.

이 경우 'it's'는 'to be'라는 동사입니다.

So it means 'It is a sunny day'.

그래서 '맑은 날이다'라는 뜻이 됩니다.

If we take the second sentence:

두 번째 문장을 보면

'개가 음식을 먹었습니다'입니다.

'The dog ate its food'.

This is not the verb 'to be'.

이것은 '되다'라는 동사가 아닙니다.

It's the possessive adjectives for an object or an animal.

사물이나 동물에 대한

소유격 형용사입니다 .

So the food belongs to the dog. It is its food.

그러므로 음식은 개에게 속합니다.

그것은 음식입니다.

Okay so these are two different cases

좋아, 이것들은 두 가지 다른 경우이지만

but sometimes when we write, we confuse the two,

때때로 우리가 글을 쓸 때

두 가지를 혼동하여

and we will write the dog ate it's food with apostrophe s.

아포스트로피 를 사용하여

개가 음식을 먹었다고 쓸 것입니다

you know getting confused between its possessive adjectives

. 소유격 형용사

와 동사 'to be'의 축약형 사이에

and it's being the contraction of the verb 'to be'.

혼동이 있다는 것을 알고 계실 겁니다

This is a very common mistake.

. 이것은 매우 흔한 실수입니다.

if we take for example the sentence:

예를 들어 'Its my pen'

'Its my pen'.

이라는 문장을 생각해 보겠습니다

Now look at the sentence.

. 이제 문장을 보세요.

What do you think?

어떻게 생각하나요?

Is this right? Or is this the wrong spelling?

이게 옳은 거니?

아니면 맞춤법이 틀린 걸까요?

Well it's wrong.

글쎄, 그건 틀렸어.

'It's my pen' is the verb 'to be'.

'It's my pen'은 'to be'라는 동사입니다.

Now the best tip that I can give you

이제 혼란스러우시다면

if you get confused, try and say it with the full form.

제가 드릴 수 있는 가장 좋은 팁은

완전한 형태로 말씀해 보세요.

Try and say 'It is'.

'그렇다'라고 말해 보세요.

If it makes sense, then it's the contraction of the verb 'to be'

의미가 있다면

'to be' 동사의 축약형

and it should be apostrophe 's'.

이고 아포스트로피 's'여야 합니다.

If it doesn't make sense, then it's probably the possessive adjective.

말이 되지 않는다면

아마도 소유격 형용사일 것입니다.

So for example, I can say, 'It is a sunny day'.

예를 들어

'It is a sunny day'라고 말할 수 있습니다.

That makes sense.

말이 되네요.

Can I say the dog ate it is food?

개가 먹은 것을 음식이라고 말할 수 있나요?

No, I can't. that doesn't make any sense.

아니요, 그럴 수 없습니다. 그건 말이 안 돼요.

Okay if I say, 'It's my pen',

좋아, '내 펜이야'라고 말하면

What do you think? Can I say 'It is my pen'?

어떻게 생각하세요?

'내 펜이다'라고 말할 수 있나요?

I can.

저 할 수 있어요.

So it's actually the contraction of the verb 'to be'.

그래서 실제로는 'to be'라는 동사의 축약형입니다.

So it should be 'it' + apostrophe 's' + my pen.

그러니까 'it' + 아포스트로피 's' + my pen이어야 합니다.

And just so you know one last thing.

그리고 마지막으로 한 가지만 알아두세요.

Be careful because sometimes in some cases

어떤 경우에는

'it's' can also be the contraction of the verb 'to have' and not 'to be'.

'it's'가 'to be'가 아닌 'to have' 동사의 축약형이 될 수도 있으므로

주의하세요 .

If we take those two sentences:

이 두 문장을 취하면:

It's been great to meet you.

만나서 반가워요.

It means - It has been great to meet you.

뜻은 - 만나서 반가웠어요.

'It's got four legs' means it has got four legs.

'다리가 4개 있다'는

것은 다리가 4개 있다는 뜻이다.

Okay so the verb in those cases is 'to have' so be careful.

좋아요, 그런 경우에는 동사가

'to have'이므로 조심하세요.
