இந்த வாக்கியத்தைப் பாருங்கள்.

And now look at that sentence.

இப்போது அந்த வாக்கியத்தைப் பாருங்கள்.

One of them is wrong.

அதில் ஒன்று தவறு.

ஆங்கிலத்தில் ஒரு பெரிய எழுத்துப்பிழை பற்றி

spelling mistake in English.

Among students, but also, among native speakers.

உங்களுடன் பேசப் போகிறேன் . மாணவர்கள் மத்தியில், ஆனால், சொந்த மொழி பேசுபவர்களிடையே.

It's a difference between 'it's' meaning 'it is'.

இது 'அது' என்பதன் அர்த்தம் 'அது' என்பதன் வித்தியாசம்.

And 'its' being the possessive adjective.

மற்றும் 'அது' என்பது உடைமைப் பெயரடை.

Okay let's and take a few sentences and I'm sure you'll get it.

சரி, சில வாக்கியங்களை எடுத்துக் கொள்வோம்

, உங்களுக்கு நிச்சயம் கிடைக்கும்.

So we have 'It's a sunny day'.

எனவே எங்களுக்கு

'இது ஒரு வெயில் நாள்'.

In this case 'it's' is the verb 'to be'.

இந்த வழக்கில் 'அது' என்பது 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' என்ற வினைச்சொல்.

So it means 'It is a sunny day'.

எனவே 'இது ஒரு வெயில் நாள்' என்று அர்த்தம்.

If we take the second sentence:

இரண்டாவது வாக்கியத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டால்:

'நாய் தன் உணவை உண்டது'.

'The dog ate its food'.

This is not the verb 'to be'.

இது 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' என்ற வினை அல்ல.

It's the possessive adjectives for an object or an animal.

இது

ஒரு பொருள் அல்லது விலங்குக்கான உடைமை உரிச்சொற்கள்.

So the food belongs to the dog. It is its food.

எனவே உணவு நாய்க்கு சொந்தமானது.

அது அதன் உணவு.

Okay so these are two different cases

சரி, இவை இரண்டும் வெவ்வேறு வழக்குகள்

but sometimes when we write, we confuse the two,

ஆனால் சில சமயங்களில் எழுதும் போது

இரண்டையும் குழப்பி,

and we will write the dog ate it's food with apostrophe s.

நாய் சாப்பிட்டது என்று

அப்போஸ்ட்ரோபியுடன் எழுதுவோம்.

you know getting confused between its possessive adjectives

அதன் உடைமை உரிச்சொற்களுக்கு இடையில்

குழப்பமடைவதை நீங்கள் அறிவீர்கள்

and it's being the contraction of the verb 'to be'.

This is a very common mistake.

if we take for example the sentence:

உதாரணமாக,

'Its my pen'.

'இது என் பேனா' என்ற வாக்கியத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டால்.

Now look at the sentence.

இப்போது வாக்கியத்தைப் பாருங்கள்.

What do you think?

நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கறீர்கள்?

Is this right? Or is this the wrong spelling?

இது சரியா?

அல்லது இது தவறான எழுத்துப்பிழையா?

Well it's wrong.

சரி அது தவறு.

'It's my pen' is the verb 'to be'.

'இட்ஸ் மை பேனா' என்பது 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' என்ற வினைச்சொல்.

Now the best tip that I can give you

இப்போது நீங்கள் குழப்பமடைந்தால்,

if you get confused, try and say it with the full form.

நான் உங்களுக்கு வழங்கக்கூடிய சிறந்த உதவிக்குறிப்பு

, முழு வடிவத்துடன் முயற்சி செய்து சொல்லுங்கள்.

Try and say 'It is'.

முயற்சி செய்து 'அது' என்று சொல்லுங்கள்.

If it makes sense, then it's the contraction of the verb 'to be'

இது அர்த்தமுள்ளதாக இருந்தால்,

அது 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' என்ற வினைச்சொல்லின் சுருக்கம்

and it should be apostrophe 's'.

மற்றும் அது 's' ஆக இருக்க வேண்டும்.

If it doesn't make sense, then it's probably the possessive adjective.

அது அர்த்தமில்லாமல் இருந்தால்,

அது அநேகமாக உடைமை பெயரடை.

So for example, I can say, 'It is a sunny day'.

உதாரணமாக,

'இது ஒரு வெயில் நாள்' என்று சொல்லலாம்.

That makes sense.

அறிவுபூர்வமாக உள்ளது.

Can I say the dog ate it is food?

நாய் சாப்பிட்டது உணவு என்று சொல்ல முடியுமா?

No, I can't. that doesn't make any sense.

இல்லை, என்னால் முடியாது. அது எந்த அர்த்தமும் இல்லை.

Okay if I say, 'It's my pen',

சரி, 'இது என் பேனா' என்று நான் சொன்னால்,

What do you think? Can I say 'It is my pen'?

நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கிறீர்கள்?

'இது என் பேனா' என்று சொல்லலாமா?

I can.

என்னால் முடியும்.

So it's actually the contraction of the verb 'to be'.

எனவே இது உண்மையில் 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' என்ற வினைச்சொல்லின் சுருக்கமாகும்.

So it should be 'it' + apostrophe 's' + my pen.

எனவே அது 'அது' + அபோஸ்ட்ரோபி 'கள்' + என் பேனாவாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.

And just so you know one last thing.

மேலும் கடைசியாக ஒன்று உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும்.

Be careful because sometimes in some cases

கவனமாக இருங்கள், ஏனெனில் சில சமயங்களில்

'it's' can also be the contraction of the verb 'to have' and not 'to be'.

'அது' என்பது 'உள்ளது' என்ற வினைச்சொல்லின் சுருக்கமாகவும் இருக்கலாம்

மற்றும் 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' அல்ல.

If we take those two sentences:

அந்த இரண்டு வாக்கியங்களை எடுத்துக் கொண்டால்:

It's been great to meet you.

உங்களைச் சந்தித்ததில் மகிழ்ச்சி.

It means - It has been great to meet you.

இதன் பொருள் - உங்களைச் சந்தித்ததில் மகிழ்ச்சி.

'It's got four legs' means it has got four legs.

'இதற்கு நான்கு கால்கள்'

என்றால் அதற்கு நான்கு கால்கள் உள்ளன.

Okay so the verb in those cases is 'to have' so be careful.

சரி, அந்த சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் வினைச்சொல்

'உள்ளது' எனவே கவனமாக இருங்கள். சரி நண்பர்களே

Okay guys I hope you now understand the difference

, 'இருக்க வேண்டும்' என்ற வினைச்சொல்லின் சுருக்கத்திற்கும்

between the contraction of the verb 'to be' and the possessive adjective 'its'.

'அது' என்ற உடைமை பெயரடைக்கும் இடையே
