In this video, we’re going to talk about ‘this’ and ‘that’.

이번 영상에서는 '이것'과 '저것'에 대해 이야기해보겠습니다.

Now ‘this’ and ‘that’ are used to talk about nouns

이제 'this'와 'that'은 우리에게 가까이 있는, 가까이 있거나 멀리 있는

that are close to us, near or far away.

명사를 말할 때 사용됩니다 .

Okay.

So let’s look at the board.

그럼 보드를 살펴보겠습니다.

“This is a flower.”

“이것은 꽃이에요.”

Okay, we use ‘this’ to talk about one noun, “a flower”, that is close.

좋아요, 우리는 가까운 명사 "a flower"를 말할 때 'this'를 사용합니다.

Okay.

“This is a flower.”

좋아요.

“이것은 꽃이에요.”

It’s not far.

그것은 멀리 있지 않다.

It’s close.

가깝습니다.

“That is a flower.”

“저거 꽃이에요.”

Okay, we use ‘that’ to talk about one noun that’s far away.

좋아요, 멀리 떨어져 있는 명사 하나를 말할 때 'that'을 사용합니다.

So, “That… that is a flower”.

그래서 “저건… 저건 꽃이군요.”

Okay.

For another example…

좋아요.

또 다른 예로…

“This is a marker.”

“이것은 마커입니다.”

It’s close to me.

그것은 나에게 가깝습니다.

But “That… that is a marker”.

하지만 “그게… 그건 마커다”.

It’s far away.

그건 멀리 떨어져있다.

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

좋아요, 다음 부분으로 넘어가겠습니다.

So we know…

그래서 우리는…

“This is a flower.”

"이것은 꽃입니다."

Okay.

좋아요.

And “That is a flower... that”.

그리고 “저건 꽃이야... 저거”.

Now, “Is this a flower”?

자, "이것이 꽃인가요?"

“What is it?”

“이게 뭐예요?”

“It’s a chair.”

“의자예요.”

So we have to use the negative.

그래서 우리는 부정적인 말을 사용해야 합니다.

“This isn’t a flower.”

“이것은 꽃이 아닙니다.”

It’s close by, but it isn’t a flower.

가까이 있지만 꽃은 아닙니다.

‘isn’t’ is a contraction for ‘is not’.

'아니다'는 '아니다'의 축약형입니다.

Okay.

좋아요.

“This isn’t a flower.”

“이것은 꽃이 아닙니다.”

“This is a chair.”

“이건 의자예요.”

“That isn’t a flower.”

“그건 꽃이 아니예요.”

It’s far away, so we say “that”.

거리가 멀기 때문에 '저것'이라고 합니다.

Again, we have ‘isn’t’, ‘a flower’.

다시 말하지만, 'is't', 'a flower'가 있습니다.

“That’s a chair.”

“그건 의자예요.”

And let’s take another example.

그리고 또 다른 예를 들어보겠습니다.

“This isn’t a pencil.”

“이것은 연필이 아닙니다.”

“This is a marker.”

“이것은 마커입니다.”

And…

그리고…

“That isn’t a pencil.”

“그건 연필이 아니네요.”

“That is a marker.”

“그것은 마커입니다.”

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

좋아요, 다음 부분으로 넘어가겠습니다.

Now we’re going to learn how to use ‘this’ and ‘that’ in a question.

이제 의문문에서 'this'와 'that'을 어떻게 사용하는지 배워보겠습니다.

Okay.

So we know, “This is a flower”.

좋아요.

그래서 우리는 “이것은 꽃이다”라는 것을 압니다.

When we make a question, we have to switch.

질문을 하면 전환해야 합니다.

We put the ‘be’ verb first.

우리는 'be' 동사를 먼저 넣었습니다.

So it becomes, “Is this a flower?”.

그래서 “이것이 꽃인가요?”가 됩니다.

Okay, it’s close by.

좋아요, 가까워요.

So the answer is, “Yes, it is”.

그래서 대답은 "예, 그렇습니다" 입니다.

Okay.

좋아요.

“Is that a flower?”

“저거 꽃이에요?”

It’s far away.

그건 멀리 떨어져있다.

The answer is, “Yes, it is”.

대답은 “예, 그렇습니다”입니다.

Okay, but how about this?

좋아요, 그런데 이건 어때요?

“This isn’t a flower.” So...

“이것은 꽃이 아닙니다.” 그럼...

“Is this a flower?”.

"이게 꽃인가요?"

The answer is, “No, it isn’t”.

대답은 “아니요, 그렇지 않습니다”입니다.

“Is that a flower?”

“저거 꽃이에요?”

“No, it isn’t.”

“아니요, 그렇지 않아요.”

Okay, here.

알았어, 여기야.

“Is this a marker?”.

“이게 마커인가요?”

“Yes, it is.”

“예, 그렇습니다.”

“Is that a marker?”.

“저거 마커야?”

“Yes, it is.”

“예, 그렇습니다.”

“Is this a pencil?”.

“이것은 연필인가요?”

“No, it isn’t.”

“아니요, 그렇지 않아요.”

“Is that a pencil?”.

“저거 연필이에요?”

“No, it isn’t.”

“아니요, 그렇지 않아요.”

Okay, so we learned ‘this’ and ‘that’ in this video.
