English Vocabulary: Humid

And in this video, I'm going to teach  you a very important English word. 

このビデオでは 、非常に重要な英単語をお教えします。

Now, everybody in Korea should know this word  because it gets this way every summer in Korea,  

さて、韓国では毎年夏になるので、韓国の誰もがこの言葉を知っているはず

right? Well not just in the summer,  but also in some other seasons. 

ですよね？ 夏だけで なく、他の季節にも。

And that word that we're going  to learn today is ‘humid’. 

今日学習する単語 は「湿気」です。

Again, ‘humid’. So this word, you need to know it,

and you especially need to mention this word when  you describe Korea's weather to any foreigners,

Okay. So if they ask “What's the weather

like in Korea?”, you have to say “humid”. Well what does ‘humid’ mean?

Well again, ‘humid’ is used to describe weather. It means that it's very wet and hot, right? 

繰り返しになりますが、「湿った」は天気を表すために使用されます。 とても湿っていて暑いという意味ですよね？

You know what I mean. So even my best friend, she comes to

Korea every year from Southern California, which is where I'm from,

and she complains about this all the time. “It's so humid, right?”

“It's so hot and wet.” And she complains about this

because where we're from, it's not like that.

It's hot, but it doesn't get very humid. So let's look at the board for some examples

on how to use the word. Okay.

So here it is. “Today is very humid.” 

それで、ここにあります。 「今日は湿度が高いですね。」

“Today is very humid.” So that's the word I want to teach you today. 

「今日は湿度が高いですね。」 ということで、今日教えたい言葉です。

‘humid’ But there are some other ways  

「湿った」 しかし

to say the same thing instead of ‘humid’. We can say a couple of other words. 

、「湿った」の代わりに同じことを言う他の方法がいくつかあります。 他にもいくつかの言葉を言うことができます。

For example, we can say, “Today is very muggy.” “Today is very muggy.” 

たとえば、「今日はとても蒸し暑いです」と言うことができます。 「今日はとても蒸し暑いです。」

Okay, ‘muggy’ means humid. Again, hot and wet. 

さて、「muggy」は湿気を意味します。 繰り返しますが、暑くて湿っています。

We can also say, “Today is very sticky.” “Today is very sticky.” 

「今日は非常に粘着性があります」とも言えます。 「今日はとても粘着性があります。」

So ‘humid’, ‘muggy’, and ‘sticky’ all have the  same meaning when you're describing the weather. 

したがって、天気を説明する場合、「湿った」、「蒸し暑い」、「べたつく」はすべて 同じ意味になります。

Now, I told you that where I'm from it's  not humid, it's hot, but it's not humid, 

さて、私の出身地 は湿気がなく、暑いですが、湿度が高くないと言いましたが

so what's the opposite of humid? That word is ‘dry’. 

、湿気の反対は何ですか? その言葉は「ドライ」です。

So if it's not humid, I can  say, “Today is very dry.” 

湿気がなければ 、「今日はとても乾燥しています」と言えます。

“Today is very dry.” Okay, well, let's look  

「今日はとても乾燥しています。」 では、

at some more example sentences together. Okay, let's look at some example sentences. 

例文を一緒に見てみましょう。 さて、例文をいくつか見てみましょう。

“It's too humid. Turn on the air conditioner.” “It's too humid. Turn on the air-conditioner.” 

「湿度が高すぎる。 エアコンつけて。」 「湿度が高すぎる。 エアコンつけて。」

“I hate humid weather. It's too sticky.” “I hate humid weather. It's too sticky.” 

「私は湿気の多い天気が嫌いです。 べたべたしすぎ。」 「私は湿気の多い天気が嫌いです。 べたべたしすぎ。」

“The rain makes it muggy.” “The rain makes it muggy.” 

「雨で蒸し暑いです。」 「雨で蒸し暑いです。」

“California is dry, but Florida is humid.” “California is dry, but Florida is humid.” 

「カリフォルニアは乾燥していますが、フロリダは湿気があります。」 「カリフォルニアは乾燥していますが、フロリダは湿気があります。」

Okay, so in this video we  learned the word ‘humid’. 

さて、この動画では 「湿気」という言葉を学びました。
