English Vocabulary: Humid

And in this video, I'm going to teach  you a very important English word. 

Y en este video, les voy a enseñar una palabra en inglés muy importante.

Now, everybody in Korea should know this word  because it gets this way every summer in Korea,  

Ahora, todo el mundo en Corea debería conocer esta palabra porque se pone así todos los veranos en Corea,

right? Well not just in the summer,  but also in some other seasons. 

¿verdad? Bueno, no solo en verano, sino también en otras estaciones.

And that word that we're going  to learn today is ‘humid’. 

Y esa palabra que vamos a aprender hoy es ‘húmedo’.

Again, ‘humid’. So this word, you need to know it,  

De nuevo, 'húmedo'. Entonces, esta palabra, debes saberla,

and you especially need to mention this word when  you describe Korea's weather to any foreigners,

Okay. So if they ask “What's the weather

like in Korea?”, you have to say “humid”. Well what does ‘humid’ mean?

Well again, ‘humid’ is used to describe weather. It means that it's very wet and hot, right? 

Bueno, de nuevo, "húmedo" se usa para describir el clima. Significa que está muy húmedo y caliente, ¿verdad?

You know what I mean. So even my best friend, she comes to

Korea every year from Southern California, which is where I'm from,

and she complains about this all the time. “It's so humid, right?”

“It's so hot and wet.” And she complains about this

because where we're from, it's not like that.

It's hot, but it doesn't get very humid. So let's look at the board for some examples  

Hace calor, pero no se pone muy húmedo. Entonces, miremos la pizarra para ver algunos ejemplos

on how to use the word. Okay.

So here it is. “Today is very humid.” 

Asi que aqui esta. “Hoy está muy húmedo”.

“Today is very humid.” So that's the word I want to teach you today. 

“Hoy está muy húmedo”. Así que esa es la palabra que quiero enseñarles hoy.

‘humid’ But there are some other ways  

'húmedo' Pero hay otras formas

to say the same thing instead of ‘humid’. We can say a couple of other words. 

de decir lo mismo en lugar de 'húmedo'. Podemos decir un par de otras palabras.

For example, we can say, “Today is very muggy.” “Today is very muggy.” 

Por ejemplo, podemos decir: “Hoy está muy bochornoso”. “Hoy está muy bochornoso”.

Okay, ‘muggy’ means humid. Again, hot and wet. 

De acuerdo, "bochornoso" significa húmedo. De nuevo, caliente y húmedo.

We can also say, “Today is very sticky.” “Today is very sticky.” 

También podemos decir: “Hoy está muy pegajoso”. “Hoy está muy pegajoso”.

So ‘humid’, ‘muggy’, and ‘sticky’ all have the  same meaning when you're describing the weather. 

Entonces, "húmedo", "bochornoso" y "pegajoso" tienen el mismo significado cuando se describe el clima.

Now, I told you that where I'm from it's  not humid, it's hot, but it's not humid, 

Ahora, les dije que de donde soy no es húmedo, hace calor, pero no es húmedo,

so what's the opposite of humid? That word is ‘dry’. 

entonces, ¿qué es lo opuesto a húmedo? Esa palabra es 'seco'.

So if it's not humid, I can  say, “Today is very dry.” 

Entonces, si no está húmedo, puedo decir: "Hoy está muy seco".

“Today is very dry.” Okay, well, let's look  

“Hoy está muy seco”. Bien, bueno,

at some more example sentences together. Okay, let's look at some example sentences.

“It's too humid. Turn on the air conditioner.” “It's too humid. Turn on the air-conditioner.”

“I hate humid weather. It's too sticky.” “I hate humid weather. It's too sticky.” 

“Odio el clima húmedo. Es demasiado pegajoso. “Odio el clima húmedo. Es demasiado pegajoso.

“The rain makes it muggy.” “The rain makes it muggy.” 

“La lluvia lo hace bochornoso”. “La lluvia lo hace bochornoso”.

“California is dry, but Florida is humid.” “California is dry, but Florida is humid.” 

“California es seca, pero Florida es húmeda”. “California es seca, pero Florida es húmeda”.

Okay, so in this video we  learned the word ‘humid’.
