6 Ways to Respond to “How are you?” in English

Hey, how are you?

Not Much.

That answer doesn’t actually make sense.  ‘Not much’ is a great answer to the question,

The first thing you need to know  about the question “How are you?”

is that sometimes it’s just a  greeting. It’s like saying hi,

They want you to answer. But if you’re  starting a meeting at work for example,

So that is an example of ‘how are  you’ being used as a greeting. Let’s

In this case, the person looks like they’re in a  hurry, this is a greeting. This person does not

Let’s recap. If it’s just a greeting and someone

If it’s more of a conversation starter,  then you can answer how you’re doing. The

So we’ve got great. We’ve got ‘good’ or ‘fine’.  Another neutral way to answer without giving much

The question ‘how are you?” is  actually asking for an adverb,
