as I was telling your son I got an email  from your mother she says she's okay in Paris  

내가 네 아들에게 얘기하던 중에 네 어머니가 파리에 괜찮다고 하셔서 이메일을 주셨

yeah okay that you know what  I have to go now take her

어 네 알겠어 알겠지 내가 이제 가야 해

wait why are you in a hurry come here  and sit down let's talk for a while

잠깐만 왜 급하니 여기로 와서 앉아 잠시 얘기 좀 하자

no I can't I have a lot of things  to do that I have to go now

아니 할 수 없어 할 일이 많아서 지금 가야 할

a lot of things to do yeah I get it  but you haven't visited me in months

일이 많아 그래 알겠어 하지만 몇 달 동안 나를 방문하지 않았으니

why don't you stay for a moment and maybe  then we can drink some beer what do you say

yes of course I had to do it because we  had no money to pay for Mary's College

아, 물론이지. Mary's College 등록금을 낼 돈이 없었기 때문에 그렇게 해야 했고 그

and after that I had to go to the mall to buy  some books for Jamie that's why I can't stay  

후에는 Jamie에게 줄 책을 사러 쇼핑몰에 가야 했어. 그래서 난 거기 있을 수가 없어.

I understand but you don't look  good you look very worried stressed

I don't know I have to work harder now  than Mary is going to study at the college

난 지금 더 열심히 일해야 할지 모르겠어 Mary가 대학에 공부할 것보다

Celia my wife also works full day and then  we both arrive home very late and very tired

I'm so tired I sleep only three hours a  day I feel tired and sleepy all the time

I got a second job the payment is not bad but  it's very stressful I finish work at night

run to my other job and then I finish  work at 11 PM I arrived home at midnight

다른 직장으로 달려가서 오후 11시에 일을 끝냅니다. 자정에 집에 도착했는데, 아침

and then I have to wake up at three or four in  the morning because I need to check some emails

3~4시에 일어나야 합니다. 이메일을 확인해야 하기 때문이죠.

you know we started our own business last  year we don't have many customers yet but

작년 사업상 아직 고객이 많지 않지만 새로운 고객을 확보하려면

we have to make calls send and reply emails  to get new clients I'm so tired of course  

전화를 걸고 이메일을 보내고 답장해야 합니다. 물론 너무 피곤해요.

Celia works part-time at the pharmacy and then  the rest of the time she works in the company

but she also ends up very tired and I understand  it's not easy to be checking emails every day

all day make calls all day too  but we have to keep working hard

what do you mean of course I have to do  it life is not easy and you know that

무슨 말이야? 물론 난 해야 해 인생이 쉽지 않다는 걸 너도 알겠지만

I know but what I mean is why do you  work hard why do you both work hard

내 말은 왜 열심히 일하느냐는 거야 왜 너희 둘 다 열심히 일하느냐고

why I'm telling you Mary  will study at the University

내가 너한테 Mary가 대학 에서 공부할 거라고 말하고 있는 거야 대학

also we bought a new car and we have to  pay for the house we bought five years ago

도 새 차를 샀고 5년 전에 산 집값도 내야 하고 이

all these things require a lot of money  that's why we need to work hard every day

모든 일에는 돈이 많이 필요해서 매일 열심히 일해야 하는 것 같은데

I see but why do you want to make  a lot of money that's the question

넌 왜 돈을 많이 벌고 싶은 거야? 돈이 문제야 돈이 문제지

don't you understand I'm telling you to  pay for the new car the house and so on

이해 못하겠니 새 차, 집 등의 비용을 지불하라는 말인데

yes you already told me that but there is  one thing I really don't understand son

네 이미 그 말을 하셨는데 한 가지 정말 이해가 안 되는 게 있어요.

you told me you work hard to get all these  things to be happy you have those things

열심히 일한다고 하셨잖아요 행복해지려고 이 모든 것들을 얻으세요 그런 것들이 있는데

but I don't see you happy that's why I  don't understand you work hard to be happy

행복하지 않은 것 같아서 이해가 안 돼요 행복하려고 열심히 일하는데

but you are not happy then why do  you work hard every day to be happy

행복하지 않은데 왜 행복해지려고 매일 열심히 일하세요

yeah now we have to work hard but maybe in  10 or 20 years we could save enough money to  

그래 지금 우리는 열심히 일해야 하지만 10년이나 20년 후에는 충분한 돈을 모아서

to travel around the world to buy a  bigger house or a better car to be happy

세계를 여행하여 더 큰 집이나 더 좋은 차를 사서

in 10 or 20 years now you're  35 in 10 years you'll be 45.

and in 20 years you'll be almost  60. you won't be young anymore

I did the same 40 years ago I was  your age and I wanted everything

and when I got the money I was too  old to enjoy that money you see

what I mean is don't quit your job  keep working hard work really hard

but don't wait till you have my age to  start living your life and to be happy Maybe

you don't need to have two jobs  maybe just one and your company
